I really enjoyed the first and third installments of the mission impossible franchise. The second film was an outlier in that it lost the essence of what these movies are about and was more a cheesy action film with flimsy plot. JJ Abraham's successfully rebooted the third film regaining trust from fans the fourth film kept true to that buy losy a little of the suspense. This film takes it a bit further away from the core of what MI should be and moves more towards being a Bond film. It's still solid and watchable but weaker than some of its predecessors when it comes to suspense and humour. It also forgets about past characters like they didn't exist which is disappointing for fans. It really feels like a needless money grab, but is watchable none the less. Unsure if I bother to watch the latest one if they continue on this path.

Like many I loved the original Netflix series and was gripped. I soaked up all information, recognised there was some bias but leant towards the opinion Avery was probably guilty but bigger picture there were a lot of doubts about his conviction which justified y scrutiny and potential investigation.

Convicting a murderer appears to be opportunistic way of making money off people's eagerness to understand if Avery really did it. The problem is that there isn't anything new here. Instead it focuses on Avery not being a particularly intelligent or likeable person. It attacks the original series for turning a blind eye on some unsavoury stuff he had done in the past which I partially agree with. It doesn't however bring anything credible to the table to whether he was guilty or not. It doesn't even address the main concerns people have.

It's probably worth a watch but don't expect any revelations.

I hadn't heard about this film until I put it on today and I must say I was pleasantly surprised going in blind. If you enjoy Guy Ritchie films or rian Johnson's knives out then you will likely live this. The casting and acting is perfect with both Charlie Hunam amd Mel Gibson having great fun as aloof characters piecing together an inter woven murder mystery with lots of twists that keep you intrigued and guessing. The location is perfect for the film too being almost exclusively set in Hollywood the film can lean on the weird and wacky sub culture which exists and poke fun when needed.

Overall this is a fun murder mystery film that seems to have flown under the radar.
