- In order to repair his status as an agent and his relationship with Sarah, Chuck agrees to go on a dangerous mission with an eccentric partner. Morgan and Casey must stop Jeff and Lester from knowing the true identity of Greta at the store.—murphtones
- Chuck (Zachary Levi) let his mother and Volkoff get away with destroying his father's work and without a functioning Intersect. Surprisingly, General Beckman (Bonita Friedericy) is not all that upset. Because Chuck is the trusting type and trusted his own mother was the reason he still had a job. Beckman sends Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) to look for Mary Bartowski and Volkoff. A team of scientists from the NSA was going to run every test imaginable to find out what happened to Chuck's Intersect, as they believe it is merely suppressed and not gone. Casey? He goes back to being Chuck's babysitter.
One month (and an insane amount of tests) later...nothing. Chuck doesn't even know why they waterboarded him. Casey (Adam Baldwin) would have preferred waterboarding to having to work at the Buy More as...well, a Buy More salesman. No missions. And his itchy trigger finger is actually itchy. And Jeff (Scott Krinsky) and Lester (Vik Sahay) notice something odd about Greta V (Summer Glau), mostly the fact she's the fifth Greta to be employed at the store. Their suspicions are aroused, as is Jeff's rather disturbing imagination. But Chuck shouldn't fret, because at least he has Sarah, or what Jeff described as a "never-ending Cialis commercial." (Surprisingly, no fantasy sequence and only a tiny bit of fan.) Sarah couldn't find anything, but Chuck tells her a specialist is arriving to help. If you call having the crap beat out of you by three ninjas help. But Agent Jim Rye (Rob Riggle) of the CIA's Psy-Ops Division is very impressed Chuck had the guts to take on all three without his Intersect.
RYE: I don't think the psychological "rock" is sitting on the Intersect can be lifted by watching a bunch of kittens playing yarn. My method is...physical, psychological, painful, brutal. If you're serious about restoring the Intersect, I guarantee you, by the end of this process you'll be a spy again. What do you say?
CHUCK: (smiles) Let's get physical.
Rye tries to get a handle on Chuck's psychological rock, by slugging Chuck. Sarah protests, but Chuck insists on doing whatever Rye suggests. And he suggests trying to find the right stimulus to lift that rock. As a demonstration, he asks Sarah if she remembers her Kempo training. She admitted not having done any since agent training, but a couple of quick moves by Rye, and Sarah's an old pro at it again. And she smells delightfully of grapefruit.
While Jeff and Lester continue to investigate the mystery of Greta, who can disappear into thin air and has a tail (according to Jeff only) and can order Subway sandwiches way too sophisticated for the Buy More crew, Chuck comes home very sore. Sarah's concerned about Rye's methods, but she'll settle for giving Chuck a massage to help him. (Not sure why she did the massage in her lingerie, but hey, who's complaining?) Sarah tries to convince him he can do great things without the Intersect, but Chuck questions if he can be a spy without it. She goes to get some more oils, and Rye takes it upon himself to bust into the apartment and put a couple of knives to Chuck's neck. His point is to put some fear into Chuck, and Chuck's Intersect still won't kick in. Rye concludes Castle is a safety zone for him, as is an apartment with a scantily-clad Sarah, so he feels a real mission will bring up the PFOD (Pure Fear Of Death) and kick-start Chuck's Intersect. Beckman has just the mission in Gstaad: outbidding some of the world's worst criminals for the Cane Volto diamond, a one hundred carat rock that could be used to finance terrorism or buy weapons. Sarah asks permission to join them, and Beckman denies it. Sarah protests Chuck has never been on a mission without the Intersect, but Chuck really wants to do it to get the Intersect back. Chuck is all on board.
SARAH: Chuck don't...don't be a hero. Just come back safe to me, OK?
Greta goes to Morgan (Joshua Gomez) to get Jeff and Lester to back off. Either he deals with it or she'll deal with it in her own pleasant manner. Pleasant to her, anyway. Morgan and Casey see Jeffster! employing all of the Buy Morons to find out more about Greta. Morgan begs him to help convince Jeff and Lester to back off without any body parts flying away. But Casey is suddenly adamant the "team," as Morgan puts it, is out of commission so long as Chuck is out of commission. Morgan will have to deal with it on his own. Morgan is upset, but he tells Alex (Mekenna Melvin), who talks to her father. He admits he was afraid he was getting soft because he finally made friends here.
As Sarah paces in Castle and calls Chuck for the sixth time, Chuck and Rye make it to the chalet in Gstaad, where Adelbert De Smet (AKA The Belgian) (Richard Chamberlain) is auctioning off the diamond, which itself was odd because De Smet was more into industrial espionage. Rye leaves Chuck on his own to bid, and the auction begins. Chuck bids until he feels a gun in his back and a threat to stop. He thinks is Rye messing with him and continues to bid...until he turns around to see an actual baddie and an actual gun. He loses the auction, but he figures the diamond would stay until the winner actually paid up. Rye likes it: it's just enough time to go steal the diamond. Chuck and Rye make into the safe, after Rye performs a Vulcan neck pinch on the guard. Only problem: the safe's security measures drop into place and the two are about to be frozen at -150°C. Rye badgers Chuck into flashing, but Chuck can't get the Intersect going. Rye isn't happy...and disables the security measures. Chuck is mad as hell Rye keeps trying to put complete fear into him, but they have a bigger problem: the safe is full of diamonds. Chuck brings a jewelers' loop and makes use of the gemology course he studied on the plane ride over. All of the other diamonds were fakes with a microdot in each. They get back to their room to transmit the information to Castle. Rye also figures out the "rock" holding down the Intersect is tied to a person: Sarah. Rye wants to know why Chuck insists on calling Sarah any time he's about to flash.
RYE: Ask yourself a question: are you a spy, or are you a guy with a spy girlfriend?
Casey and Sarah verify the diamonds contain photographs and blueprints of CIA assets, which The Belgian is selling to the highest bidder. Beckman orders Chuck and Rye to capture De Smet as quickly as possible. Sarah requests to join them, but Chuck vetoes that, since he's convinced it's the only way he'll get the Intersect working again. Sarah's upset now. It's a real mission with real danger.
CHUCK: I'm sorry, and I can only handle fake danger?
SARAH: Look, I know getting the Intersect back is important. But so far, none of Agent Rye's therapies have worked. The microdots contain highly-sensitive information that the wrong people WILL KILL FOR.
CHUCK: Well, I can take care of these wrong people without you holding my hand.
SARAH: Why does it make sense to risk your life?
CHUCK: Because it's what I do! I'm a spy!
SARAH: No, Chuck! You're not! (oops)
Beckman decides to send Sarah to Gstaad anyway to assist in bringing down De Smet. Sarah will be there in five hours, because she doesn't want Chuck risking his life. Chuck is not happy.
Jeffster! calls Greta to the cage to claim her Subway sandwich. She's had enough and goes after the morons. Lester insists they can do this the hard way "or the way that's...very difficult." He demands answers from Greta, and he gets a knife in return. Morgan tries to intervene, but Jeff's already doing his Daniel LaRusso imitation to stop Greta. He gets a cut-off tie in return. And Lester's next...until Casey comes calling with a truckload of credit card slips in her locker...and a few head massagers. Morgan plays along and takes the "thief" away. Casey commends Jeffster for their work, explaining there were crawl spaces in the walls that weren't boarded up after the fire Greta used to sneak in and out. However, he couldn't explain to Jeff how Greta transmographied into a woodland creature or grew a tail. River Tam...sorry, Greta...berates him about the unprofessionalism of the Buy More, but Jayne...sorry, Casey...insists they have the best spy team in the business. They exchange growls and go their separate ways.
Chuck and Rye get ready to corner De Smet on the gondola that is the only access to the chalet. Chuck thinks they should wait for Sarah, but Rye warns him De Smet could escape. They decide to be heroes and go on the gondola. Which was the wrong move, since he was one of the images on the microdots, and The Belgian knew it. They walk right into a trap on the gondola. Even with all of that fear, Chuck still can't flash. Rye takes it on himself to kick ass and starts taking out De Smet's men. The door to the gondola gets opened, and Chuck falls out, barely hanging on for his life. Rye takes out the last of De Smet's men, but he tries to get Chuck to flash. He insists on Chuck forgetting about Sarah and flash with his life on the line, but Chuck says he'd rather have Sarah than the Intersect.
RYE: The CIA diddn't send me out to affirm your love life, Bartowski. You need the Intersect up and running. Now get that rock off your chest and be a real spy, like me! (a gun goes off) Did I just get shot? I certainly did.
His final words, as De Smet shoots Rye from behind. Rye falls out of the gondola, and The Belgian has captured Chuck. He calls Sarah and tells her to back off or Chuck will die slowly. Chuck insists to De Smet his Intersect is gone, but De Smet doesn't believe it.
Back at Castle, Sarah is ready to explode, but Beckman won't let her find Chuck. She puts Casey in charge of the rescue but orders Sarah to go home until news comes across. She blames herself for Chuck's capture, because she felt Chuck was doing all of this to prove to her he was a spy. She goes home...to pack for her own mission. Casey and Morgan go to her and promise to help her find Chuck.
