- Recap.
In a small North Dakota town where a trailer park abuts a water tower, a man named Roy comes home and announces to his wife Ginnie that they've won the lottery. He thereafter collapses, but it's a fake, for humor. She laughs then asks "What are we gonna buy first?"
Cut to an enormous house on an estate in the Hamptons where Ginnie welcomes Hank and Evan. Though Roy hurt his wrist helping the movers, Hank's there for the wife, who's having an allergic reaction to her recently-purchased fake gold jewelry. Evan finds that Roy put all his money in one bank and offers up his financial planning services.
The couple (who are adorable and very "aw shucks" about their new riches) invites the boys to the renewal of their wedding vows that weekend. Everyone will be there, she explains, as she's sent invitations to the entire neighborhood.
Seeing servants decorate Boris' estate with potted roses, Hank and Evan suppose Boris' impending return will include Marisa and a possible wedding.
Evan excuses Eddie for, yet again, being out of touch with his birthday (now three days ago). The brothers walk into their home where Evan, greeted by a surprise party, is truly surprised.
Later that night, Evan thanks his dad for coming, tickled to see him.
Hank finds Jill, saying he wants to talk about Emily. She assures him they don't actually need to talk about it. "Good talk."
Divya and Raj bring Evan a present, but Paige butts in with the same watch the CEO of Goldman Sachs was wearing when he testified in front of Congress. Evan is truly wowed.
Divya tells Jill things are going great with her betrothed.
Evan soaks it all in, happy about Paige, his watch, Hank as his brother, and the fact his dad actually came to his birthday for once (even if the date was three days off).
Divya and Hank check in with Tally, a Jamaican maid, whom Adam, her boss's son, called HankMed as she was achy and nauseous yesterday. She brushes off his concerns. Adam comes along as they talk about eating roasted calf brain (a mid-eastern delicacy) and he tells Hank about her kidney transplant two years ago.
They video-conference with her nephrologist, who worries she's not taking it easy. The doctor mentions that Adam is the donor. This gives Hank and Divya a concern.
Evan visits with Roy to talk about his finances. Roy says he'd be happy just sticking all the cash under his mattress if it weren't the sheer physical size of it all. He's worried about "the lottery curse," Ginnie's rash, and losing everything. He's also out-of-sorts.
Hank drops by his dad's super fancy beach pad. Eddie, happy his (elder) son came to visit him, forces a drink of scotch in his hand. Hank awkwardly thanks him for Evan's birthday party. The phone rings and Ed excuses himself. Hank discreetly dumps his drink, looks around, and discovers a page of Boris' stationary with practiced signatures of Boris' name on them. Hank takes the sheet and leaves.
Hank visits Roy, who's starting to freak out about his wrist. Hank examines it. After ruling out ulnar deviation (developing hand deformity), he sees an abrasion on Roy's hand. Winning the lottery, Roy was mobbed by many people wanting to shake his hand for luck. Hank wants to run a blood test for infection. Roy says it's just about the worst pain ever, worse than when he almost lost his hand when his thumb got caught in the fifth wheel hitch of his truck. Hank has Evan fetch the portable CT scanner, saying he needs to test Roy for necrotizing fasciitis, the terrible flesh-eating virus. "Whoa," says Evan, "Yeah, that might qualify as a lottery curse."
Back at the house, Hank and Evan see Boris pull up, super cheery. He greets both Hank and Evan, which surprises Evan to hear Boris call him by name.
On a more serious note, Hank asks Evan if he mentioned Boris to Eddie, sharing his concern over Eddie throwing the party just to steal the letterhead.
Back with Tally the maid, Divya tells her her kidney function is fine. Divya hands over anti-nausea medication and suggests rest. Adam insists she go lie down.
At the cottage, Hank gets word that Roy doesn't have a flesh-eating virus. Then, what IS the problem? Paige drops by with another birthday present for Evan, a couples massage. He begs off, saying he needs to work on Roy's financial planning and that the watch she gave has already given his other personal belongings an inferiority complex. She leaves, obviously disappointed.
Back at Adam's house, Adam tells Divya that Tally's more like family than his blood relatives - the only two members of the family without law degrees - plus, he's the only one who matched. "When the universe puts something like that in front of you, it's hard to deny," he says.
Hank phones Roy, who's feeling much better on his antibiotics, despite a small cough. He says none of the neighbors have RSVP'd yet. Hank hears their macaw, Walter, squawking in the background and thinks he might know what's making Roy sick.
Adam has called Divya back to the house. Tally's pain has worsened. Her kidney hurts.
Hank tells Roy and Ginnie that Roy might have parrot fever. One culture test will confirm it. They're mostly upset to learn their macaw might be sick, but Roy's situation will have revealed the ailment in time to save the bird's life.
Divya calls for Hank, who rushes over to see Tally. Her levels are normal, so they're thinking it's not kidney-related, but a CT could damage her kidney. Divya goes for the ultrasound. Hank sees that it's diverticulitis and says she needs to go to the hospital. Divya volunteers to drive her and Adam to Hamptons Heritage. This surprises Hank a little.
Hank checks on Boris, who's doing fine. Boris thanks Hank for making his stay in Cuba more enjoyable that expected and tells him of Marisa's move to the Hamptons ("coming to live here at Shadow Pond"). Boris takes a call from Marco and is upset that the travel ban between Cuba and the United States hasn't been lifted. Hank considers mentioning Eddie practicing Boris' signature, but not after Marco's upsetting call.
At the hospital, Jill regards Adam as a hottie. Divya says she hasn't noticed and points out he's a documentarian.
Divya checks in with Adam as Tally sleeps. She asks him why he gave her his kidney. He says he used to call Tally "Mama." His own mother disapproves of pretty much everything he does. The family is all personal injury lawyers. Adam broke that chain. Divya can sympathize and says "Not doing what's expected of you can be trying."
The next morning, Jill sees Divya leaving Tally's room. Since she slept there overnight, as did Adam, Jill insinuates, for fun, some hanky-panky going on. Divya claims she was concerned for Tally, but her protestations, going on too long, suggest guilt. Now Jill is genuinely suspicious.
Hank and Evan arrive for the vow renewal to an empty room. Ginnie fears no one's going to come, but Evan explains that, in the Hamptons, arriving on time is arriving too early. Actually, Hank and Evan both feel no one will turn up. Evan wishes Paige was there, but she's been ignoring his calls.
Roy comes out, his hand is swollen and inflamed. How bad's the pain? If he had a saw he would have cut if off by now.
Hank drains fluid from Roy's hand and applies a splint. Roy's determined not to let Ginnie miss out on their vow renewal for anything.
Divya stops by the hospital and runs into Adam. He's carrying flowers that he awkwardly gives to her as a floral thank you. Not knowing if Indian culture might have different meanings, he asks about the ring on her finger. They both seem disappointed by her saying she's engaged. (It's obvious there would be an interest in a relationship had she not been already spoken for.)
Ginnie tries not to freak out that no one but Hank and Evan is there. Jill comes in and Ginnie, excited, "introduces" her to Hank.
Roy and Ginnie renew their vows. Ginnie gets choked up. Divya walks in late and seems somber about the whole thing.
Outside amidst servers and tons of food, the entire attendance is just four people. Hank sees Roy eating the rich food and asks for a microscope. It's not parrot fever - Roy has gout. "The king of diseases and the disease of kings," Hank explains. Roy has to change his diet back to what it was - minus the Cheetos.
Evan sits alone and mopes. Suddenly, Paige appears followed by what seems like the whole neighborhood. She brought a few friends. She tweeted it. She's done this not for the couple, whom she doesn't know, but for Evan.
Hank jogs up on Boris at home. Boris' glumness reveals that Marisa's not coming. She's been arrested. Boris isn't flying down to help because he can't. (Can't help or can't fly down isn't clear.)
Hank drops in on Eddie. "What's this? Twice in one week. I feel like I won the lottery," says Eddie. Hank says he saw the forged signatures but doesn't want an explanation. (Eddie's ready to give one but Hank, apparently, has heard it all before.) Hank reminds Eddie that he's not in Passaic anymore, that Boris operates at a level beyond his reach. Eddie enjoys that Hank is worried about him and kisses Hank's forehead four times. As Hank leaves, Eddie tells him he used the stationary for the party invitations.
At the estate, Divya, Hank and Evan play a game of laser tag amid the shrubbery. Divya doesn't just win, she rules.
Eddie runs in. He announces to Evan that he's a nincompoop, finally realizing he got Evan's birthday wrong. He apologizes and turns to leave. The boys invite him to play laser tag, but he says he has somewhere to be. The boys decide to play two-on-one against Divya, but she swiftly bests them again.
Walking off the property as Boris slowly drives by, Eddie meets Boris and shakes hands, introducing himself. Boris knows who he is - "Exactly" who he is, which he says meaningfully and drives away. Eddie smiles in return and waves goodbye, once out of earshot saying "You don't know the half of it."
