In the dressing room, Bob Osborne reads a note from Lucy written on the mirror in lipstick. It references using a hand mike in "the bandstand number". Curiously, no such number is in the show.
During the final Christmas song, Vivian Vance gives Bill Frawley an affectionate kiss on the cheek and whispers "Merry Christmas" to him. He returns the favor. Considering that the two performers had their differences, this is either very convincing acting or they had mended fences knowing their time working together was drawing to an end. Vance had nixed an "I Love Lucy" sequel about the Mertzes, despite the fact that Frawley was amendable to the idea.
Though William Demarest and William Frawley would later play brothers on My Three Sons, the two actors never actually appeared in the same episode. Demarest joined the cast a week after Frawley left. This is their only joint appearance on the same television show, though they share no screen time.
It was Lucille Ball who suggested that Robert Osborne combine his interest in classic film and training in journalism, and write instead of act. He also acted in "Chain of Command" for the "Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse", also in 1959.
William Demarest was best remembered as Uncle Charlie on "My Three Sons," a role created after the death of William Frawley. This is one of two times Demarest and Frawley appeared together on screen, although they share no scenes. The other was in "The Farmer's Daughter" (1940).
