- Winter season at the Palace Hotel in St. Moritz, where the fates of guests and staff intersect at the turn of the year. The patroness watches over everything, but doesn't always have a happy hand in her dealings with guests and staff.
- The Palace, a world-renowned hotel in St. Moritz, is preparing for the winter season under the guidance of its beautiful lady manager. In this hive buzz Staub, the old waiter, his daughter, the telephone operator, Fredy, the playboy kitchen porter who is very much in demand by lonely female customers, the chambermaids Speranza, Fredy's fiancée, and Emilie, who lives with her young boy, the sommelier Loosli and many others who are all valiantly doing their work. All these people are upset one day when a robbery is discovered in room 126.—Guy Bellinger
- Two days before New Year's Eve, two days until the start of the season at the Hotel Palace. The young manager (Anne-Marie Blanc) is all on her own, as her husband is abroad on business. Things are still not running smoothly. The chambermaid Emilie (Käthe Gold) is in financial difficulties. Her son Walter (Otto Zehnder) has lost a portfolio containing a lot of money. Against all regulations, Emilie borrows the missing sum from a guest. As a result, she comes under suspicion of having stolen dollar bills from the room of the impostor Doctor Suvala (Lukas Ammann). The hotel confectioner (Zarli Carigiet) and the cellar master (Gustav Knuth) are convinced of their colleague's innocence and want to set a trap for the thief. While things come to a dramatic head in the cellar and kitchen, the handsome Freddy (Paul Hubschmid) makes a lightning career from assistant chef to floor waiter. He fills in for old Staub (Emil Hegetschweiler), whose heart has suddenly stopped beating properly. Freddy's heart, on the other hand, is already beating hard for the beautiful chambermaid Speranza (Liliana Tellini). And so there is no shortage of love in the small, whirlwind world of the big Hotel Palace.
