Maletroit is determined to have his revenge: the brother has been stowed away in the dungeon for two decades, while he's convinced his disreputable house guest will make a suitably hellish husband for his niece. As luck would have it, the young couple manage to fall in love, and with the help of manservant Voltan (Karloff), they try to make their escape, but not before a final confrontation with Maletroit in the dungeon's crushing deathtrap.
- In a Japanese city haunted by nature spirits and demons, a secret war is raging between the renegade demon Eko and a spectral warrior known as the Karas. Eko has mechanized himself and his followers to defend against the unearthly fury of the Karas; in addition to an armored humanoid form, the Karas can transform into any of various heavily armed and armored vehicles. Eko and his followers prefer to live in the material realm in human form, but to continue doing so they must feed on the fluids of human bodies. Their periodic feasts result in massacres that leave only a single traumatized survivor; these "inexplicable" tragedies are the obsession of a marginalized police inspector whose daughter was the survivor of one such massacre. Opposing Eko are the renegade demon Nue, who also lives in the material world in human form but refuses to drink blood or take a mechanized form, and Otoha, a former human who is summoned by the mysterious Yurine to become the new Karas.

Dr. Churchill, a respected but reclusive scientist, uncovers evidence that the pre-Christian demons of ancient mythologies are real, and that they will return soon to reclaim the Earth as their own. He tries to warn the governments of the world, but is met with ridicule. His professional standing and credibility destroyed, he disappears. Later, his prediction comes true, as the gigantic extraterrestrials Baal and his consort Dygon descend on the world's capitols and begin the enslavement of humanity. Conventional militaries are unable to defend against the onslaught. All that stands between "The Anti-God" and the end of the world is Dr. Churchill and his covert resistance force of scientists and high-tech soldiers, DOOMSHIELD, aided by their secret weapon, an ancient magical semi-sentient mechanoid known as the Archangel Thunderbird. The vehicle requires a human pilot, but only someone with an incredibly rare psychological makeup can operate it. Enter Miki Manson, an extremely disturbed woman suffering from multiple personality disorder. The powers and abilities of the Archangel Thunderbird vary depending on which of Miki's personalities is in control when she enters the cockpit. Churchill and his assistants are challenged not just by the forces of Baal and Dygon, but also by the need to keep Miki under control so that she can continue to pilot the mechanoid.
