- Stella Nekati-Chiweshe of Zimbabwe is a musical genius, a virtuoso of the mbira -- the African "thumb piano" used in the invocation of the ancestral spirits in Shona religious rituals. In this video Stella sings and plays music, and speaks of her struggle to learn in a field dominated by men. Stella is interviewed in her Harare home and performs several of her compositions amongst the remarkable rock formations of Dumboshawa. Her music is combined with images of Great Zimbabwe, ancient rock paintings, and the work of present day artisans.
- Shot in 1984 at the legendary Kwanongoma College of Music in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe featuring performances by the student marimba ensemble and an interview with teacher/composer Alport Mhlanga. Kwanongoma waa a major center in southern Zimbabwean for the promotion and development of traditional Zimbabwean music and instrument building.
- Ngoma Buntibe is the ceremonial music and dance of the Tonga people of northern Matabeleland, Zimbabwe. This performance was recorded in the district of Binga near Lake Kariba in the Zambezi valley. Ngoma Buntibe is performed on formal occasions and at funerals when the dancers follow the paths the deceased used to walk. The horns are from kudu and antelope, the drum membranes from elephant hide. The Tonga are subsistence farmers, fishers, artisans and itinerant mine workers. They were forced from their ancestral lands by the creation of the Kariba hydroelectric project in the 1950's.
- This documentary was filmed in Matenje refugee camp as refugees students were preparing to return to Zimbabwe just after independence. It documents daily life in the camp and interviews with students and teacher tell of the achievements, hardships and dangers of life in exile during the war for independence. The camp was located in Tete province, Mozambique and was home for thousands of kids and their teachers for several years. This film is a record of the sacrifice and idealism of Zimbabwean youth in the struggle that stands in sharp contrast with the situation in present-day Zimbabwe under Robert Mugabe.
