On 18 April 2014, an avalanche on Mount Everest near Everest Base Camp killed sixteen Sherpas guides. On 22 April, the Sherpas announced they would not work on Everest for the remainder of 2014's climbing season, first time in Everest's history, as a mark of respect for the victims. -Candle for Sherpas- document the tragedy from the point of view of the Sherpa community based in Queens, NY, the largest outside Nepal. Introducing the topic with the use of rare archival footage, -Candle for Sherpas- bring the audience straight to the testimony of the Sherpas that left Nepal in search for a better future.
