Distraught, he decides to sue her for "property damage" and "breach of trust", among other things. She hires her feminist friend from New York to defend her, which is a difficult task in the southern town of Newnan, Georgia, which is predominantly pro-life.

Larry McAfee is paralyzed from the neck down following a motorcycle accident. He gradually loses the will to live, in the meantime befriending a talk radio DJ (portrayed by Craig T Nelson) over the phone. The two meet each other and become friends, though Larry still wishes to end his life. The DJ reluctantly has a switch installed on Larry's life support that Larry can activate at any time (via his mouth) to end his life.

Before each feat was attempted, three contestants would place bets on whether or not the person would do it successfully or not. The records were typically not of the outstanding kind. Examples included longest time walking on a rolling log, most quarters flipped off an elbow, skate-boarding in a U-channel the longest, and various track-and-field type actions.
