- Lagertha is betrayed, and Bjorn must find a way to support the distraught queen; Floki and his settlers arrive in a new land, but it is far from what they expected.
- Bjorn, Halfdan and Sinric fight and use the sand storm to escape from emir Ziyadat. Ivar and Hvitserk arrive at King Harald's kingdom to join forces against Lagherta. Ivar offers to spare Bishop Heahmund's life provided he teams-up and fights with him against Lagherta. Floki's plan is found but Lagherta decides to let him go with his followers to the Land of Gods. Astrid hires an abusive fisherman to send a message to Lagherta informing when Kattegat will be attacked. Meanwhile Bjorn is returning to his homeland with Halfdan and Sinric, just before his brothers' battle for their home.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Ivar reassures jealous Hvitserk, his offer to let Harald eventually succeed his cripple self on the Kattegat throne, is only a ploy to forge an alliance to overturn Ubbe and Lagertha. Astrid offers whaler captain Hakon gold to secretly pass a traitorous warning to her queen lover, implicitly accepts to add sexual favors but is forced to extend those to his whole crew for their silence. Floki's band of 'deserters' is found out at the dockyard before they sail off, but Lagertha decides against forcing them to stay against their will and the 'land of the Gods' proves a bitter disappointment tot the would be-farmers colony. While the Saxons are in a depressed mood, except one prince who vows to reclaim Ecberts 'bretwalda' kingdom of all England, Ivar makes the chained warrior bishop Heahmund, who seems as fearless as Ivar, choose between senseless execution and joining his own war 'slaying heathens' as if a mercenary.—KGF Vissers
- Floki and the settlers prepare for their voyage but are betrayed to Lagertha by Guthrum. Lagertha is angry and learns that her warriors wanted to leave as they were either convinced by Floki, or because they were being called away by their God. Lagertha allows them to leave, even though she believes that Kattegat is in danger and yet the warriors acted very selfishly by thinking only of themselves. Lagertha warns her warriors that Floki is a great boat builder, but he is also a trickster. On reaching the new land, the settlers discover that it is not as fertile as Floki had told them. Aud (Leah McNamara) and Kjetill (Adam Copeland) are the best warriors in the group that sailed with Floki.
Margrethe is vexed by Lagertha's leadership; the Queen threatens to enslave her again if she continues to plot against her.
In England, the Saxons have retreated to Wessex. Alfred swears at Ecbert's grave to pursue the former King's vision of uniting the country. Aethelwulf is not in favor of hiding and surviving while the Viking invaders occupy their land and cities. After collapsing during Mass, Alfred recovers and decides to make a pilgrimage to Lindisfarne (the monastery that was attacked by Ragnar when he first came to England).
Ivar returns to meet Harald. He informs Harald that he and Ubbe fell out after disagreeing about many things. Ivar wants Harald to join forces to attack Kattegat, but Hvitserk wants Ivar to be made King. When Harald hesitates, Ivar says that he is not a healthy man and in the long run, it will be Harald ruling Kattegat after Ivar is dead and gone.
Hvitserk is again angry that Ivar did not discuss with him, before making this arrangement with Harald that after Ivar's death the crown will pass on to Harald and not Hvitserk. Ivar says that the arrangement are just words as he is sure that Harald will try to kill them as soon as Kattegat is conquered.
Ivar says that he wants to make Lagertha suffer before he kills her. He says for him revenge is more important than ruling Kattegat. Ivar also informs Harald that Astrid used to be Lagertha's lover.
Ivar makes an alliance with Harald, and they plan to attack Kattegat in two months' time. Ivar threatens and persuades Heahmund to fight with them. Ivar had taken Heahmund's sword and realizes that the metal of the sword is much stronger than the Viking metal. Ivar tells Heahmund that the war is just another way for him to kill more Pagans. Ivar says that he saved Heahmund as he wanted to be more like him, whole and a fearless warrior. Heahmund agrees to fight for Ivar.
Astrid betrays Harald by bribing Hakon (Laurence O'Fuarain), a fisherman, to warn Lagertha. Hakon agrees to deliver the message but says that he wants to have sex with Astrid. Astrid is blackmailed and sexually assaulted by the crew, spied by a young boy. Hakon delivers the warning and tells Lagertha that Ivar is with Harald now.
Meanwhile, in Africa, Bjorn manages to escape during the sandstorm with Halfdan and Sindric, and the three sail back to Kattegat.
