As the clock strikes eight, a mother sends her boy to bed. With only a candle light to guide him, he is wary and frightened and thinks he can see shadows and hear noises. Once he is in his room, he believes there is a creature coming to get him, relieved to find it was only his mum. But the Sandman still lurks in the shadows. This is one of several collaborative dance films by the Brothers Quay and (dancer, choreographer) William Tuckett, adapted rather loosely from the works of the E.T.A. Hoffman.
