Salma Hayek in Frida (2002)

Gaffes

Frida

Modifier

Continuity

When Frida is drinking from the bottle to win the "competition" to dance with Tina, Diego Rivera's face is wet/dry/wet between shots.
When Frida is brought home from hospital and lying in her bed in a cast, through days and nights, the amount of photos on her bed changes from 1 to 2 and back.
Trotsky is inconsistent with using his cane. It was most apparent when he went to meet Frida. He walked upright, with steps young and strong, then picks up Frida and whisks her off of her feet.

Factual errors

In the movie when Frida loses the baby it is after Diego had painted the Detroit mural, and they are already in New York. But, in fact Frida lost the baby when Diego just started painting the Detroit mural in 1932. She lost the baby at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Also, there is a scene that shows her painting "Henry Ford Hospital" and shows the finished painting without the words on the frame of the bed.
The blood in the IV bottles is translucent. It should be opaque.
When Diego Rivera refuses to eliminate Lenin's image from the mural, Nelson Rockefeller pays him and declares that his work is done. Shortly after that exchange, the mural is covered and destroyed. In reality, the covered mural was not destroyed until February 1934, 9 months after it was painted.

Revealing mistakes

In the opening sequence, Frida is lying in her bed, which has been loaded onto a truck which is driving through Mexico City. She is staring directly upward at the mirror mounted on the underside of the canopy over her bed. In a close-up of her face, we can see her earrings dangling. But they are not dangling toward the ground, but rather toward her feet, indicating that she was upright for the closeup, not lying in bed.
When Frida is in the tub with the Empire State Building visions, you can see a towel or wrap covering her chest.

Miscellaneous

When Trotsky is viewing Frida's paintings the monkey on Frida's lap is eating grapes. When the monkey finishes eating it, someone off camera tosses another grape to the monkey. The monkey is focused on the person with the grape and catches it.

This is just an example of a monkey stealing the scene.

Anachronisms

Early in her New York trip Frida is watching 1933's King Kong (1933). Later she is called home to tend to her dying mother. Several scenes later we see her at her mother's grave and it shows that she died in 1932, a year before King Kong was released.
One of Cristina Kahlo's sons wears disposable diapers.
In 1922 Frida is sitting in a modern wheelchair painting Cristina's portrait.
One scene shows people on the streets singing revolutionary songs. The song chosen is "el pueblo unido jamas sera vencido". This song was composed around 1973 by Chilean composer Sergio Ortega.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

When Frida comes back to New York from visiting her mother in Mexico, her mouth is clearly not moving when she greets Diego.

Character error

When Diego and Christina are caught "in the act" Christina is naked. Diego pulls up his trousers and his "tighty whities" are visible. He was not naked.
