But once, when he writes to her about his graduation in seminar, Teta, in her naiveness, travels to Hustopec to help him on his first parish. There, the truth is revealed - Mojmir is not a priest, lives in Prague, and spends the money on something entirely different. Teta starts to blame herself for naiveness and selfishness in heading for her personal happiness. In her despair, she pilgrims to Rome where she hopes to get a redeeming blessing from the Pope. To her relief, the whole group takes part in the audience at Pius XII. Soon after, Teta falls ill and having been rewarded by the Holy Father, she dies full of hope to get a beautiful place in heaven.

During World War I, Schweik (played by Heinz Rühmann) is drafted into the Austro-Hungarian Army as soldier, where he is assigned to be an assistent to Lt. Lukas.

After all the drama in "Und Ewig Singen die Wälder", the surviving second son and heir, Dag junior, father of the next heir, lays his father in his grave. After the funeral Eleonore convinces Adelheid happiness can only return after making up with Dag, and sends her brother to Dag, who warns him he can't continue taking the blame in his wife's eyes; the Major shoots himself, leaving a letter about his guilt. Years later the couple has other children; the wood business is good, exporting to Britain. Eleonore adopts orphan girl Barbara. When the flood causes logs to clog up in the river requiring an explosion, Lorenz takes Barabara for a coach drive and they jump in a boat; Dag jumps in at the last moment, but the logs catch up, only the girl gets safe ashore and becomes son Dag III's sweetheart...

On top of all this, a telegram arrives announcing the arrival of Fürst, which is a nobility title in Germany, and the entire village prepares to give him a proper reception.

La Marquise de Pompadour desires the best tenor in France for her opera company, and after an extensive search in the provinces, Chapelou is selected and forced to leave his bride-of-an-hour to go to Paris. Alfer seeing the handsome tenor, the Marquise decides not to let his bride, Madeliane, join him in Paris. Graf de Latour, banished from the court for his bawdy song about La Pompadour, goes to the town where Chapelou has left his bride and sees an opportunity to get even. He takes Madeleine in hand and after exhaustive grooming and make-over he returns to court with her as his banishment has been lifted, and Chepelou, failing to recognize hie own wife, falls in love with her. He asks her to marry him but he must first return to Lonjumeau and get a divorce from his wife. Madelein beats him back to Lonjumeau.
