The layout of the hotel where Mr. Smith is staying is not consistent with his death. If the stairs leading to his floor end in a direction towards the rear of the building, then his room faced the rear and he could not have fallen out onto the front sidewalk. If the stairs leading to his floor loop around again and end facing the front, his room would have been in the opposite direction from where he fell on the sidewalk.

Obvious stunt doubles in the fight between Tim Forrester and Henry Carmichael.

The car that drives off a cliff in the opening scene is obviously not the car burning in the next shot. Just look at the fenders. Also, the car crashes in broad daylight but the burning car is in darkness.

Jill's murderer is never positively identified, but was implied to be her multiply murderous and jealous fiance, Harry Carmichael, head of the Nightengale smuggling ring, enraged at finding her at her former employer and implied previous lover Jeff Forrester's apartment wearing the same dress as appeared in a portrait he was painting, assumed to be there for an assignation with him.

The suspect without an alibi, Jeff, originally accused of the killing, was ultimately shown to not be her murderer.

Tim agrees to paint a portrait of a dead girl from a black-and-white photo. But he does not ask what color her eyes were.
