Jack and Olivia finally get their time away together, but the weekend does not go to plan.

Since he's unable to communicate, she sets out to identify the man and find out why he was visiting Cedar Cove. Meanwhile, Jack's estranged son Eric suddenly appears on his door step needing a place to stay.

Olivia gives Eric an opportunity to repair some plumbing work in her chambers, but Eric's slow progress makes her regret offering the job.
- When Seth takes a job on a fishing boat in Alaska and fails to return or make routine contact, Justine becomes extremely worried and decides to go look for him. Jack is offered a freelance reporting job and invites Olivia to travel with him on a weekend away.

Moon offers her Justine's old job - which she accepts - and she ends up staying at the Thyme and Tide, where Bob is feverishly working away to win the town's annual Christmas Decorating award (judged on Christmas Eve), much to Peg's chagrin as she sees to Bob that means the more ostentatious the better. Shelly, alone in the world, admits to Peg that she is planning on giving the baby up for adoption, Peg who points her in Olivia's direction for legal help in the matter. Peg eventually finds out more about Shelly, and that her choice of Cedar Cove was not by accident. Seth returns to Cedar Cove, but Justine, angry that he would leave without telling her, is not willing to take him back, that is until he tells her what he has been working on for their future, which again is ultimately affected by Warren, and this time also by association the mysterious man in the figurative "blue suit." John has left Cedar Cove, and Maryellen has no idea where he is. On a business trip into Seattle, Maryellen inadvertently finds some clues as to his whereabouts. Olivia has no idea if Jack is gone for good. Indeed, he has taken the job in Philadelphia following his and Olivia's fallout because of Stan. Olivia now sees Stan's ultimate goal in a clearer light, which in part makes Olivia decide to take decisive action to get Jack back by flying to Philadelphia, unaware that she may miss him as he comes back to Cedar Cove to collect the remainder of his possessions. And Grace also decides to take decisive action in starting things with Cliff, despite he having recently declined her every advance.
- The Christmas Season has arrived in Cedar Cove and though Jack and Olivia are happy to be reunited, Jack is desperate to talk to his still-missing son Eric about Eric's impending fatherhood. Meanwhile, Justine is asked to help the FBI make a case against Warren and Grace tries to heat up her relationship with Cliff.
- Olivia struggles to support Jack and Eric at the hospital as painful memories from her past resurface; Justine and Seth clash with Warren over the fate of the restaurant.
- Feeling like Shelly, Jack and Olivia are conspiring against him to take his yet unborn child away, Eric threatens to call in a lawyer of his own so that he can get custody of his unborn daughter. Olivia ends up having what Eric and Jack believe is a surprising perspective on the matter, at least on the surface. What Olivia also does is make Justine think about the situation with Seth and the restaurant, putting her own needs and wants first and foremost instead of doing something purely to please Seth. The situation is made all the more difficult for Justine by Seth, who does something to advance his and Justine's relationship. Maryellen learns from Macafee and Sheriff Troy that the two men that approached her are John's old prison mates, and that the authorities believe John will go into their forgery business in large part to protect her against them. Maryellen has to decide what to do, receiving what she considers the contradictory advice to stay clear of John - essentially abandoning him - despite he doing what he may end up doing purely to protect her.
