Top 10 Stars of 2017by IMDb-Editors | last updated - 10 months ago
As the year comes to a close, we present the Top 10 Stars of 2017 on IMDb. Here's how we arrived at our list: We looked at the 10 stars who consistently ranked the highest on IMDbPro's weekly STARmeter chart throughout 2017. STARmeter rankings are based on the actual pageviews of IMDb's more than 250 million unique monthly visitors.
10. Katherine Langford
It seems no other new TV show this year sparked as many conversations as "13 Reasons Why." During its freshman season, as we pieced together the events that led to Hannah Baker's decision to end her life, audiences clearly felt affected by Katherine Langford, who brought a complexity and authenticity to Hannah that helped make the show a necessary watch. Langford makes her first appearance on IMDb's annual list of our Top 10 Stars and, in a savvy follow-up move, she booked the role of Leah Burke in Love, Simon. In the desperately sought 2018 release, she plays the best friend of closeted high schooler Simon Spier (Nick Robinson).
9. Sofia Boutella
Sofia Boutella expanded her appeal to action-movie fans with an entirely new look in The Mummy, and there's no doubt that people who loved Atomic Blonde will be rewatching her scenes with Charlize Theron for years to come. Those are two reasons why the up-and-coming star, who will next be seen in Hotel Artemis and Fahrenheit 451, makes it two years in a row on our Top 10 Stars list.
8. Dan Stevens
The former "Downton Abbey" star was everywhere this year and, like a proper gentleman, he never wore out his welcome. Beauty and the Beast elevated his leading-man status, and "Legion" further proved that Stevens — to put it gently — has a knack for fully inhabiting slightly deranged characters. A true modern-day star, Stevens likely will continue to balance his time between the big and small screens.
7. Ana de Armas
It takes a lot to make a Replicant feel love, but it wasn't hard to see why K (Ryan Gosling) yearned for an even deeper connection with Joi (de Armas) in Blade Runner 2049. Their tragic connection was a bright spot in one the year's best and bleakest movies. Also, we imagine her presence in the thriller Overdrive was a main reason why the B-movie rode high on IMDb's MOVIEmeter chart this fall.
6. Pom Klementieff
As the Marvel Cinematic Universe expands, we're introduced to outlier characters such as Mantis, the Empath who is now the newest member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Pom Klementieff's performance kept the quirk factor in check in the blockbuster sequel, earning her first appearance on our list. We don't know how integral she'll be to Avengers: Infinity War, but we also wouldn't be surprised to see her on this list next year as well — especially if she balances her Marvel duties with more cool indies such as Ingrid Goes West.
5. Bill Skarsgård
Bill Skarsgård and his exquisite talent (and of course that bone structure) made him one of the year's most recognizable faces — even under layers of shapeshifting, homicidal clown makeup. By imbuing an iconic character with an even more terrifying, malevolent spirit, Skarsgård helped make It one of the year's biggest success as it brought it nearly $700 million at the worldwide box office. The blockbuster also dominated most movie conversations in a year where the horror genre in general experienced a massive resurgence.
4. Alexandra Daddario
In a feat of incredible staying power, Alexandra Daddario lands a spot on our Top 10 Stars list for the second year in a row. What's considerable in Daddario's case: Baywatch, her centerpiece project of the year, earned considerable online interest but underperformed at the box office. When she wasn't stealing scenes from Zac Efron, the young actress made brief appearances in The House and a co-starring role in the indie comedy The Layover, William H. Macy's directorial follow-up to Rudderless.
3. Emilia Clarke
The Mother of Dragons slips a single notch on this year's Top 10 list as "Game of Thrones" wrapped its penultimate season back in August. It was a trying season for Daenerys Targaryen as she took on the Lannister Army, and came face to face with not only Queen Cersei but also the Night King and his army of White Walkers. And we still can't talk about the loss of Viserion ... . We will next see Ms. Clarke in Solo: A Star Wars Story before "GoT" returns for its curtain call.
2. Tom Hardy
Aside from, oh, electrifying the MCU by signing up to play Eddie Brock in Venom, what did IMDb fan favorite Tom Hardy get up to this year? Well, he offered "Taboo," which eeled its way through a salacious and divisive first season; he also anchored the cast of likely Best Picture nominee Dunkirk; and he tantalized Star Wars fans with a rumored appearance as a Stormtrooper in Episode VIII. And, after months of speculation, it was revealed that he would indeed find time to appear in Season 4 of "Peaky Blinders." All of these maneuvers combined to push Hardy up two spaces on this year's Top 10 Stars list.
1. Gal Gadot
A year ago, few would have guessed that Wonder Woman would become the masterclass on how to make a near-perfect superhero movie and Gal Gadot's presence in the DCEU would become that universe's most valuable asset. Ascending to the No. 1 position on our Top 10 Stars of 2017 list is the Amazonian Princess who has become queen of all things superhero.
