Fringe: Unearthed (2010)
Sc-fi show episode focusing on being "open minded" with single minded approach
It is always the christian god that is THE god and their religion whenever it is "god" one is referring to in movies/shows! If one is open minded it should mean you give equal chance to all the gods, spirits whatnots and religions out there to have the possibility of being true! Especially in a sci-fi show!
Oh and like everyone have already mentioned, it was very confusing to see a dead agent running around.
Once the popularity of the show increased, I believe they decided to air a "fail" episode they had put aside to cash in some extra $
It was the acting and the show's general atmosphere that made it watchable. It may not deserve the lowest 1 point I gave it but I don't like religion (with obvious agenda) being forced into shows where it doesn't belong, where it is a neutral element, not even a concern either under positive light or negative one!! But this episode moved the show out from the neutral zone and put a certain religion in the center of it in a way saying science is something within the context of this particular religion, not outside of it, this religion is still the dominant factor!
Unfortunately this episode was seriously a very low point of otherwise a great show!
Crooked House (2017)
More drama than mystery!
Agatha Christie's detectives are exceptionally smart. You always wonder what goes on in their heads! They appear to be seeing pieces of the puzzle and putting them together in their head while you have to excitedly wait for the end to hear them explain each puzzle piece individually and how they fit together!
Unfortunately the detective in this movie was no Agatha Christie detective! Everything he saw and thought about we also saw and thought about as viewers!! He was as confused as we were, he knew as much as we knew!! Zero extra depth in his intelligence! On top of it we were unnecessarily involved in his romantic drama!!! It added nothing to the story, nothing to character development, nothing to the investigation!!
The worst part for me was that the mystery got solved by pure dumb luck!! The person who figured out the killer's identity was not the detective and the detective found about the real murderer completely by luck .. so no one needed that detective to solve the mystery at all.. they only needed to find the diary of the killer!! How is this an Agatha Christie mystery? It felt more like an insult to Agatha Christie mysteries -_-
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
It was building up towards this ending
One of the signature features of this show is that things never happen the way we normally read or watch in other fiction stories! The writer always manages to crush our hopes and expectations! This episode was no different!
I don't agree with most people here who showed their disappointment in Dany turning "mad queen". We go with the norms and this show is anything about norms..
There was a character build up for Dany to become mad! In so many episodes she went against the advice of her advisors! Instead of showing mercy, she almost always demanded the bending of the knee or else death.
Her claim was always the throne! Even if she set people free, her main goal was to get the throne and once she learned that she had a genuine competition, her struggle turned into keeping it quiet because that could mean she might lose the throne. I think this was a good example of how people with good intentions could turn bad after certain expectations and greed set in. Her character built up towards one direction and that was becoming the queen. Goal turned into obsession and obsession turned into madness upon finding out she might not even be the rightful heir!
Yes, it was a little hard to watch how the character we idolized turned into something of evil but, unfortunately, it was also a very realistic outcome!
Nightflyers (2018)
Axe in spaceship?
It is normally too early to give a review and grade this show after only seeing the first minute of it.. but when I sci-Fi picture starts with a space crew walking around ... looking for someone in the spaceship.... with an AXE he is dragging .. a wood chopping tool.... in a frigging spaceship.. you just lose it!!!! If something so illogical is displayed in the very beginning of a picture, then it is only logical to assume it is nothing worth watching!
Lost in Space (2018)
Soap-opera disguised as sci-fi
Other reviewers have already stated almost all the flaws so I am here to explain the reason behind those flaws!
This is not a sci-fi involving some drama and other stuff! This is ridiculous soap-opera disguised as sci-fi! There you have it. This is why so much dumb things are happening! Endless going back and forth, endless dumb conversations, endless villain plots and dumb heros falling for it like flies fall to sugar traps!!
I really hoped we could see some interesting applied science along with cool fiction. They begin and end with episode 1 and then unfortunately soap-opera takes over the rest of the show!
It is not terrible but if you want to watch a decent sci-fi show, go back to Star Trek with Leonard Nimoy!
Murdoch Mysteries: Sir. Sir? Sir!!! (2018)
Nice theme based episode, however it wasn't tied up with a proper ending
I believe this is the first episode where the show was taken into a completely different context. They did some special episodes for Christmas but it was still logic and crime based.
I enjoyed this particular episode a lot actually. Especially the theme music.
BUT, the way it ended did not make sense!
It was not the story that went wrong here. The story had no ending so naturally one would expect the next episode to pick up where they left which would mean the end of Murdoch and the whole crew!
Of course it was meant to be a one time thing for a change but to leave it at a one time thing, the ending needs to be appropriate!
In my humble opinion, the writers should have added "and right after the 'kiss' from Dr Ogden, Crabtree wakes up to find a critter on his face" meaning this all was a nice Halloween dream!
So aside from lacking a proper ending, it was actually quite an interesting theme based episode :)
What Happened to Monday (2017)
The theme of futuristic films are mostly based on backwards ideologies. This one is no exception!
* Contains Mild Spoiler *
The positives:
Interesting story
Really amazing performance by the lead actor Rapace
The problems:
* Overpopulation usually opens the gate for modern "slavery" where lots of children, women, men fall prey to sex industry.. The harm and death these human beings suffer is exceedingly massive.
Does this movie show the true face of overpopulation? NO!
The only inhumane act this movie presents is forcing people not to over breed like cockroaches so humans can live like humans again without having to resort to horrid things like cannibalism due to lack of food (which is another realistic outcome of overpopulation) or selling their own children for few bucks.
* They have mirrors that are smarter than our state of the art PCs. But the futuristic regime in this movie has to resort to medieval methods to prevent excessive birth!
I was first thinking they should get a reward for the immense lack of imagination! But then I realized that most movies/shows in certain countries focus on certain themes repeatedly because of the ideology/religion dominant there. Christian America would of course have more negative feelings towards prevention of birth than to the realistic outcome of excessive population, where the value of human beings has become so low that even finding dead bodies of children have become a daily regular incident!
In our age, even since few decades ago, prevention of conception has been far easier than enabling conception! It would only make sense that with some "egg disabler" or "manipulator", implant or bracelet if you like, they should be able to prevent the occurence of pregnancy to begin with!! But no. We have to see how horrible birth prevention is because there is no other way than already born humans being killed to cut down the population!! Also, this is the most horrible thing according to the movie! Not to let them die "naturally" in the hands of malnourishment, diseases from lack of hygiene or non-toxic materials, abuse from parents/society who are already psychologically damaged, so many children abducted and who knows enduring what...
* They still have the famous old fashioned "American" guns. They have trouble finding food but guns? No problem, still being manufactured thanks to amendment loving corporations. The actors only open a drawer and the gun is there fully loaded! No need to ponder over how in such strictly control regime they can get their hands on an "old fashioned" typical American gun?
I have already given up on this gun thing disappearing on screens because I realized that the gun corporations or lobbies are financing the movie/show productions. They are sponsoring them. That is why in all those futuristic movies/shows while people can't find water or even another human being, can easily find all sorts of guns with endless ammunition! And the directors/story writers have to place these guns in the movie even if their existence defies "normal" logic!
The movie has some other plot holes and I saw they were already addressed to by other reviewers. But the ones I mentioned, especially the first and the second, were the most obvious and illogical plot holes in my opinion because the entire movie were based on them
Altered Carbon (2018)
It is still today's America with just a few added centuries
It is either writers/producers have very little imagination left or the real sponsor money for Hollywood comes from the gun lobbies.
They have flying cars, which by the way is ridiculously actual cars with jet function, but they still use shotguns!! They have guns that is slightly different than today's guns and of course just like the amendment loving Americans, everyone has a half machine gun sized guns ready on their persons! It is the first episode I watched and at least 70% of it went by with a gun at sight ... either being used or just held for us to see! Oh and the typical backwards minded Christian version protestors were also there objecting to "sleeve" usage... as if non religious people would not object to such things!!
The actual story may have an original outline but the way it is being delivered has caused me lose interest already in the first episode!
Ghost in the Shell (2017)
This shell is really empty..
I guess "ghost" pretty much means ""blank" in this movie..
I don't know about the anime or any previously made movies about GITS, but this movie is unoriginal from beginning to the end.
It is mainly the combination of Robocop and Totall recall, and a lot of other original sci-fi movies
But, it lacks the originality, mystery character evolving depth twists and shocking endings the other movies had.
I expected the ghost's original character to have some important role in the story.. but she was literally nobody! The twist was that there was no real twist at all. I mean I had already figured out that the brain belonged to a "victim" of this company like within the first quarter but I expected the real character to be connected to a deeper mystery!! No, just some usual rebellious teen living in a shelter..
Oh, by the way, they can create pretty much a whole human body, skins that generate camouflage effect to the point where the character virtually becomes invisible ... but they still drive cars from the 90's, have machine guns to kill full or half robots!!! and the buildings... they look like they are from the industrial era with huge machine parts making most of the outside walls. The inside of a house looks exactly like any standard house so what the hell are those huge engine like stuff for? They look like the the engines of air conditioning system from the 60's or maybe even an earlier era..
I love sci-fi and I was so looking forward to see this movie.. so I can't describe the disappointment I felt.. Watch the original total recall movie. It is old and lack today's cgi technology and other digital technologies but still, you will enjoy it 100 times more than this hi-tech empty shell flick!
The 4 stars are for some of the acting and the good visual art work..
Assassin's Creed (2016)
Non-Gamer Review
I liked the general atmosphere, I liked the music, I liked the CGI, I liked the acting, I especially liked the historical connections that were given in brief concepts but meant a lot to those like me who studied the Judean, Islamic and Christian history from non-religious view points.
BUT I've never played the game! So my review is based solely on the movie simply as a movie.
I think game and book movies should have a sub category for reviews. The reviews of those who read the book or played the game should be easily separated from those who haven't through a filter option. Currently the reviews looks too messy and not correctly guiding for those who wants to have an opinion before watching it.
Teen Titans Go! (2013)
I can't stop laughing each time I watch it. Brilliant show!
I never watched the "original" people are comparing this one to but I can only say this much: "Bad" and "Not For You" are two different things. If acting, animation, script etc is bad then criticize those but comparing and not finding this one to be a replica/sequel of the "original" should not be a criteria for such ridiculously low rating.
I am 47 and I admit that I am trying not to miss a single episode, even if it is the 10th rerun of it, and almost in every episode I am literally LMAO! I have never laughed this much with adult comedy shows. The team of this show, from the writers to the voice actors, are just brilliant and they should be rewarded, if not for being brilliant then at least for their own "originality", not vilified for not being an unoriginal replica of a former show.
Murdoch Mysteries: Cometh the Archer (2016)
Full of plot holes and nothing makes sense!
Being an avid fan of Murdoch Mysteries for years, I was shocked to watch an episode with almost no logic, no plausible action, no back story, no convincing story line!
The beginning was very gripping and interesting, until it turned out that a delusional woman was behind all the carefully planned decoy and she was acting all alone.
Now here's what I couldn't get my head around:
1) When and how did this woman become so obsessed with William?
2) A woman can drug and even kill a man but how on earth could she carry William out from his hotel room?? How could she drag an unconscious man downstairs without being noticed by a single person? I'm not even questioning her strength, only the dragging process that would take at least 10-15 minutes from upstairs to the alley and this is a hotel, not a mansion!
3) How could Julia leave the hospital without being noticed by a nurse or hospital guard?
4) Julia walks in the police station, finds out William is missing. Now she has recently been operated and is still in pain but she says she is going to find William. Why does nobody at the station try to stop her or at least insist on walking with her to her place to make sure she makes it safely? Her hair is down and she is wearing not so presentable clothes and holding her side and dragging herself while walking but the police officers seem not to notice anything out of ordinary!
5) While she still was at the station, why did not a single police officer think of questioning her about the incident? She is the victim and also the prime witness!! The first question to pop in someone's mind is "do you remember who attacked you?" but obviously it is the last thing that a police officer can think of!
6) Although she recognizes her attacker, why does Julia keep the information about her attacker to herself? What can she achieve by doing that for goodness sake?? Where did this solo hero persona obsession come from??
6) How could the rational and very educated Julia even think that she should rescue William single handedly (no less with a bleeding abdominal injury that would most likely slow her down or even kill her) while there are many healthy and able officers who would perform the mission faster and with more efficiency?
The plot holes could go on but these were the main ones that seriously bothered me. I have enjoyed all the other seasons and episodes very much but this is the first ever episode that left me with a bad taste. Nothing makes sense in this episode and it should never have been aired!
