Filmed simultaneously with Darkman II: The Return of Durant (1995) between November 15, 1993 and December 20, 1993, but not released until going direct-to-video on August 20, 1996.
The movie originally intended to be the second movie before they switched the release dates.
Liam Neeson had been asked to return for the sequels, but due to his rising star status, he asked for more than the producers were willing to pay. Arnold Vosloo was asked to return when plans for a fourth film were being developed, but due to The Mummy (1999), he also asked for too much. The fourth film was shelved.
Like its previous sequel, this was indexed in Germany from 1997-2021 due to violence. Since being removed from the index list, its original "Not under 18" rating was restored in 2022.
