Powerfully-built, dark-haired French leading actor. In films from 1910, appearing in numerous short comedies. Capable of playing humorous or villainous roles with equal verve. Perhaps best remembered for his thuggish gamekeeper in The Rules of the Game (1939).
Over the course of his 54 year career, he never appeared on a television show, which is quite unusual for an actor of his day.
