CSI: Vegas and NCIS: Hawai‘i got canceled within one week of each other this season, marking disappointing results for two top TV franchises. Both CSI and NCIS ranked as the No. 1 scripted broadcast TV program in the United States at one point, and both of those shows spawned successful spinoffs… and at least one that was not so successful. Dick Wolf can relate. His long-running Law & Order franchise has had its share of flops, and even his successful One Chicago universe has had one of its shows flicker out. Criminal Minds, meanwhile, suffered losses with its first two offshoots. Read about all of these short-lived spinoffs below. Law & Order: Trial by Jury (2005–2006) Bebe Neuwirth, Amy Carlson, Kirk Acevedo, Fred Thompson, and Scott Cohen starred in this fourth Law & Order series, which also marked the final screen appearance of ...

Across the 275 episodes of Blue Bloods that have aired on CBS since it first premiered back in 2010, there’s one thing that fans can agree on: we all want Detective Danny Reagan to be happy and in love. Could there be a bit of romance on the horizon for Donnie Wahlberg‘s character in Season 14? All signs point to yes! It’s been seven years since the tragic death of Danny Reagan’s wife, Linda Reagan (Amy Carlson). Now that the show is coming to an end, fans speculate that the NYPD Detective might end up with someone close to him, like his partner Det. Maria Baez (played by Marisa Ramirez). Having worked alongside him since 2013, many people think it’s about time the two come together. And it seems like Wahlberg himself might also want to see Reagan and Baez start a relationship, too. The New Kids on the...

Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) might need to watch out for a certain McGrath in Law & Order: Svu—and no, we’re not talking about the (now acting) chief (Terry Serpico). Rather, it’s his wife, Katie, played by a very familiar face for procedural fans, Blue Bloods‘ Amy Carlson, and we’d love to see more of these two women going toe to toe. (Fun fact: Carlson guest starred as another character in a Season 2 episode of Svu.) The latest episode featured a case that was very personal for the McGraths, their daughter’s rape. During the course of the investigation, McGrath got heated and threatened the teen he thought was responsible, and Benson had to report his actions and words to Internal Affairs. As a result, Captain Curry (Aimé Donna Kelly) joined the investigation. At one point, Katie pulled Benson aside to tell her she’d spoken with her husband.

Helping survivors has always been personal for Benson.
She's been the cop real-life survivors sometimes wish they crossed paths with: compassionate, caring, and more of a social worker than a police officer.
Lately, it's felt like the long-running series has drifted away from that, sometimes making huge missteps that upset survivors. But on Law & Order: Svu Season 25 Episode 4, the series returned to basics, offering a compelling conflict that perfectly blended personal and professional concerns.
The introduction to the case was the only weak spot. I didn't think it was either believable or ethical for Benson's therapist to tell her about another client who needed help with a sexual assault.
Benson claimed there was a duty to report, but that's not entirely accurate. Under New York law, there is a duty to report only if a teenager says someone they live with assaulted them.
Svu usually gets it right, and mistakes...

How does a McDonald’s manager with three young children end up becoming a cult leader who believes she has birthed the entire human race, been reincarnated as Jesus, Joan of Arc, and Marilyn Monroe and is spiritually connected to late actor Robin Williams?
Hannah Olson’s three-part HBO docuseries “Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God” attempts to answer that question.
The series, which is currently streaming on Max, begins with Colorado police discovering a mummified body lying on an enshrined queen-sized bed, wrapped in a sleeping bag decorated with Christmas lights. As the police officer’s bodycam gets closer to the bed, his flashlight reveals that the corpse’s face is not only severely gaunt, but also distinctly blue with glitter around the eye sockets. Eventually, the body is identified as Amy Carlson, former leader of the cult Love Has Won. Autopsy reports would later conclude that Carlson died of alcohol abuse,...

When Amy Carlson’s mummified body was found in April 2021, it looked like a blue skeleton. It was also in a sleeping bag wrapped in Christmas lights. Her followers in the Love Has Won cult were apparently still waiting for the Galactics, a group of dead luminaries led by Robin Williams, to come pick her up in their spaceship. Somehow, this never happened. Instead, the cops came.

After abruptly leaving her family, Amy Carlson proclaimed herself able to take on humanity’s pain, calling herself “Mother God,” centering herself as a charismatic cult leader. You can see the entire tragic story in the new Max documentary “Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God,” available on Monday, Nov. 13. Despite professing faith in universal love, the cult had a darker, conspiracy-laden side as well. Blinded by her beliefs, fueled by alcohol and drugs, and with a distrust of science and medicine, Amy became trapped in a reality of her own making, eventually succumbing to a death that her followers understood as her ascension to the next realm. You can watch with a 7-Day Free Trial of Max.

Is Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God a true-crime documentary? It’s shot like one, albeit with the benefit of 2,700 archived live streams so it doesn’t have to rely on reenactments.
And it plays like one, spinning out from ordinary beginnings to red flags to shattering consequences with the inevitability of tires on black ice. But up until the end of the story, there’s no crime to investigate — at one point, a concerned parent calls the police, only to be told nothing can be done — and the offenses that are eventually committed are all nonviolent. Among the many jaw-dropping details in this story, the most inexplicable is this: Amy Carlson did this to herself.

Amy Carlson spent seven seasons as a member of the Blue Bloods cast. She portrayed Linda Reagan in the police procedural and brought an outside perspective to the Reagan family dinners. Then suddenly, the character was killed off. Linda died between season 7 and season 8, with the season 8 opener grappling with her demise. The odd choice not to show her death has bothered Blue Bloods fans for years. Apparently, it bothered Carlson, too.
Linda Reagan was killed off of ‘Blue Bloods’ because Amy Carlson did not renew her contract
Blue Bloods fans never suspected that Linda Reagan would be killed off between seasons, but that’s precisely what happened. When season 8 of the series opened, fans learned that Linda had been killed in a helicopter crash. Her death was not shown. Instead, the season opener dealt primarily with Danny contemplating retirement because of Linda’s passing and his guilt.
So, why exactly was Linda killed off?...

Since 2010, the CBS police procedural drama television series, Blue Bloods, has entertained audiences with the fictional story of the Reagan family, led by Tom Selleck, who plays a stoic police chief. Intertwined with New York’s criminal justice system, the long-running series focuses on the interaction of the family and each unique role they play in seeking justice for others.
The heart of Blue Bloods is the family dinner scenes where the entire Catholic Irish-American clan gathers together to dissect the challenges of their daily lives. While many a meal has been served over the show’s long-running history, fish has never found a place on the dinner table, and with good reason!

Blue Bloods stars Tom Selleck as New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan. The show premiered on CBS in 2010 and continues to be a reliable hit for the network.
The story centers on Reagan and his family, who are involved in law enforcement. But as tough as the characters themselves are, the cast ultimately had to make a request for the show’s frequent family dinner scenes.

Sounds like the Blue Bloods episode “Lost Ones” risked losing longtime fans with the introduction of a new love interest for Danny Reagan (Donnie Walhberg). In that Season 13 episode, which aired on Friday, January 20, the CBS procedural introduced Jessica Pimentel (Orange Is the New Black) as retiring detective Laura Acosta, who ended up on a date with Danny after he helped her get disability pension approved. But that possible love connection frustrated fans who’d been shipping Danny and his work partner, Det. Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) ever since he lost his wife, Linda (Amy Carlson), in a helicopter accident. Jessica Pimentel as Laura Acosta and Abigail Hawk as Abigail Baker on ‘Blue Bloods’ (CBS) “I’m done with @BlueBloods_CBS if they are pairing Danny with that woman,” one viewer tweeted on Friday night. “He and Baez deserve to be together @DonnieWahlberg.” (Wahlberg, for his part, replied to that tweet with a crying-laughing emoji.

Danny's done many favors for fellow cops, so who expected his friendship with Acosta to turn into a date?
On Blue Bloods Season 13 Episode 11, it seemed like Danny was helping Acosta out because he felt guilty that she got hurt while covering for him after Linda's death.
That's typical Danny. Deciding to ask her out on a date -- after Sunday evening dinner, no less -- wasn't.
Blue Blood fans have debated Danny's potential love life since Linda's death. Some fans ship Danny/Baez, while others think that's a terrible idea and would rather Danny date Maggie, the psychic played by Callie Thorne.
It's fine for Blue Bloods to bring someone new in for Danny, but it's irritating that he's supposedly known Acosta for years, yet we've never heard of her before.

TV characters often feel like friends, especially if we spend time with them week after week.
Saying goodbye is always tough. But it's worse when the characters don't even get the send-off they deserve.
There have been many awful send-offs, ranging from characters just disappearing, never to be heard from again, to being killed off in ridiculous ways.
Many characters seem to suffer from Chuckie Cunningham Syndrome -- here one week, gone the next, never to be heard from again.
Every classic series does this.

And of course, there's Chuckie Cunningham himself, who went upstairs one day and never came down.

Exclusive: HBO is in production on Love Has Won, a new docuseries about the obscure religious group branded a cult by many, and its leader Amy Carlson, with Baby God director Hannah Olson set to direct.
The series will tell the story of Carlson, Aka Mother God, and Love Has Won with exclusive access to key subjects and previously unpublished archival material, according to HBO.
The Love Has Won movement has been described as a combination of New Age spirituality, conspiracy theories, and elements from mainstream Abrahamic religions. The group proclaimed that Carlson was a divine, 19-billion-year-old being who had birthed all creation. Carlson claimed she had been reincarnated 534 times, including as Jesus, Joan of Arc, Marilyn Monroe and Cleopatra, and would lead 144,000 people into a mystical “5th dimension”.

When her family takes possession of a new house, something takes possession of Wendy (Amy Carlson). Maybe she shouldn't have gone poking through the previous residents' things and peering at their strange books. It's an unusual, slow process; she seems less and less herself, which will lead even horror viewers familiar with such processes to wonder. Her husband Donald (David Alan Basche), however, quickly becomes convinced of what's happening, and delves into the same book without a moment's hesitation. in search of a remedy.
We know from the outset that things could go very badly wrong here because we've been treated, in the prologue, to a glimpse of what happened to the former owners. Wendy and Donald also happens to have a relative - niece Jami (Mallory Bechtel) - who hosts an online show about the supernatural. It's nice not to have to go through the usual tedious gaslighting preamble but.

Spoiler Alert: The story includes a detail about the Season 4 premiere of CBS’ Seal Team.
CBS’ military drama Seal Team returned for its fourth season tonight, and the premiere served quite a shocker, marking the farewell as a series regular of the show’s female lead, Jessica Paré.
In the season opener, Paré’s Mandy Ellis makes the decision to leave the unit after returning from the latest mission in Afghanistan.
“It’s not who I want to be,” she told David Boreanaz’s Jason Hayes. “If I don’t walk away now, I’m going to lose myself forever. And if I stay, you’re going to talk me out of it.”
In a statement, Seal Team executive producer/showrunner Spencer Hudnut explains the reason behind Paré’s surprise exit and the way she will stay close to the show.

Evil can sometimes be very funny, as evidenced by the “trailer” for Season 2 of the acclaimed CBS drama.
Released as part of its New York Comic Con panel on Saturday — before any actual Season 2 footage has been shot — the trailer above finds cast members Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, Aasif Mandvi, Michael Emerson, Christine Lahti and Kurt Fuller acting out moments that may or may not actually be from an upcoming episode, which may or may not revolve around Leland’s marriage to Kristen’s mother, Sheryl.

Amy Carlson is returning to CBS, the network she called home for seven years on Blue Bloods.
Per Deadline, the actress has landed a recurring role on FBI: Most Wanted Season 2.
Carlson plays Jackie Ward, "a veteran bounty hunter who has crossed paths with Jess before," according to the outlet.
"She is a force of nature, profane, witty, good at her job but plays by her own rules. A thorn in the team’s side."
Carlson is best-known for her Linda Reagan role on Blue Bloods, and her exit from the series stunned fans.

"It's time for rock 'n roll made by men!" "Middle-aged men..." Gravitas Ventures has debuted a trailer for an indie rock 'n roll comedy called The Incoherents, marking the feature directorial debut of illustrator / filmmaker Jared Barel. The film stars & is written by Jeff Auer, who plays a bored, 40-something paralegal who hasn’t let go of his dream of rock stardom. It dawns on him that reunions of The Pixies, Soundgarden and other indie rock bands from the 90's could inspire his former group, The Coherents, to come together again. It also stars Walter Hoffman, Casey Clark, Amy Carlson, Annette O'Toole, Kate Arrington, Robert McKay, and Christine Chang. Alex Emanuel, who stars in the role of Jimmy, served as music supervisor, and along with Jeff Auer, wrote the original songs the band performed in the film. Also featuring music by Stew, Jimmy Gnecco, Fiona Silver, and 60/40. Looks like a mid-life-crisis-meets-rocking-out film.

In today’s film news roundup, box office reporting is going away temporarily, Hollywood Teamsters have job opportunities, comedy “The Incoherents” finds a home and Fathom Events postpones more than a dozen releases.
Box Office Reporting
The coronavirus pandemic and the closure of most movie theaters has led to a temporary suspension of North American box office reporting by Comscore, the industry’s box office tracker.
The decision came after Disney announced it would stop global box office reporting, given the current large number of theater shutdowns around the globe.
“Due to this unprecedented situation, Comscore will be temporarily suspending our usual Sunday North American Top 10 Estimates, Global chart and commentary,” Comscore said in a statement. “We will update the status of studio reporting on Monday.”
Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore, told Variety that there will be some revenues this weekend, thanks partly to drive-in movie theaters that have remained open.

Rosanna Arquette, Rose McGowan, Alyssa Milano and Idina Menzel are among dozens supporting those accusing Russell Simmons of rape and sexual misconduct in the documentary “On the Record.”
The music mogul has denied the accusations. The film will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 25. The statement of support was organized by Equality Now, UltraViolet and V-Day.
“It takes great courage for any survivors of sexual assault to come forward, especially publicly,” the statement said. “We admire the bravery of all of the Russell Simmons’ survivors and the #silencebreakers who stepped up to share their story in the @OnTheRecordDoc. We are unequivocally united in supporting the survivors in the film and all survivors of Russell Simmons. We want them to know: We believe you. We hear you. You deserve to be seen. #MeToo”

Luis Delgado was back on Blue Bloods Season 9 Episode 7 and I was thrilled to see the charismatic, calculating hitman's return.
Back when we were led to believe that Delgado had been decapitated by his own cartel because Danny had set him up to look like a rat on Blue Bloods Season 9 Episode 1, I thought it was a waste of guest star, Lou Diamond Phillips', talents.
With Delgado's reappearance, he obviously kept his head, it looks as though the hired gun may be around to set fire to Danny's world a while longer.
What's a little sad is that instead of rooting for Danny to finally capture the man, I was actually rooting for Delgado to get away.
Yes, Delgado is a hired assassin, a despicable human being who brutally murders people for a living. There's no reason why I should like him, and yet I do.
Baez: I think someone else should find Delgado.

If you’re a big fan of the television show Blue Bloods, you have probably noticed by now that one of the major characters in the show, Linda, is no longer there. If you’re having trouble remembering or you just recently started watching, Linda was played by Amy Carlson. Erin Reagan was having some serious issues on Blue Bloods Season 9 Episode 3 as she tried to adjust to her new role in the District Attorney's office.
Exactly how stressful is the position of Bureau Chief because Erin was a complete bear to deal with?
Perhaps it all would have made a little more sense if we had seen some of the pressure put on Erin but a, it was, her overreactions and severe attitude felt like they came out of nowhere.
She was in much better humor when her job was on the line as she decided to take on her boss' boss on Blue Bloods Season 9 Episode 2.

Sometimes there are so many actors in Hollywood that it seems like the same words might get used over and over to describe them.
