David Bowie is a familiar name in the music and cinematic world, whose music led him to become among the greatest artists in history. Apart from music, his acting talent was second to none, working on both the small and big screen. However, many would be surprised to know that the actor was quite close to playing a James Bond villain.

Associating with the Bond franchise is undoubtedly a huge deal, and Bowie’s impact could have further elevated its magic. However, things turned out differently due to Roger Moore.

Who would have thought that the legendary musician David Bowie would have been playing a James Bond villain? But the fact is cent percent true as the English singer was initially attached to play the role of maniac Max Zorin in 1985’s A View to a Kill.

When images started to surface of Jake Gyllenhaal filming a UFC fight scene for the Road House remake, audiences got a glimpse at how the Doug Liman film for Amazon would differentiate itself from the original Patrick Swayze film from 1989. The consensus was that making Dalton a former professional fighter was an interesting twist that wouldn’t make the remake a complete copy of the Swayze film. However, the die-hard fans would remain skeptical. Now that the film has been released on Prime Video (along with the controversy of not being given a theatrical window), many agree that it doesn’t have the heart of the original, but there is still a division among the viewers on who may have still found it serviceable.
Despite the mixed reception, the remake was a big hit for Amazon MGM and a sequel had already been greenlit. Along with Road House‘s success,...

Jake Gyllenhaal pulls his glasses out of his jean jacket pocket, the Coke bottle lenses in them strong enough to correct his 20/1250 vision. Yes, you read that right. These are not Internet Boyfriend glasses, to be styled with a fuzzy cardigan and a rakish smile. These are I Literally Can’t See glasses. Looking through them with normal vision feels like being on some sort of a hallucinogenic.
Gyllenhaal, 43, has been wearing intensive corrective lenses since he was about 6. Born with a lazy eye that naturally resolved, he’s still legally blind. “I like to think it’s advantageous,” he says. “I’ve never known anything else. When I can’t see in the morning, before I put on my glasses, it’s a place where I can be with myself.” He has used his blindness sometimes to help him as an actor — when he was shooting a difficult scene in the 2015 boxing movie Southpaw,...

While Kevin Hart’s action is taking Prime Video’s global top by storm, now dominating in it, the movie is in fact not as good as this hype implies. Die Hart 2: Die Harter is panned for being extremely generic and even a pale copy of all genre’s staples.
Thus, there is a need to satisfy people’s interest in good old action comedy flicks, with 5 of them being enlisted here. They are all must-watches for a good evening chill.

In some cases, when actors deliver an iconic performance in a certain role, it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing the part. James Gandolfini’s performance as Tony Soprano is no different. Often considered one of the best TV shows of all time, The Sopranos still remains the best gangster drama to be put on the small screen, and a major reason behind it was the late actor’s performance.
Sylvester Stallone shared a similar viewpoint when reflecting on the show and had no hesitation taking shots at Gandolfini’s son, who played a young Tony Soprano in the 2021 prequel.

Considering Quentin Tarantino’s close bond with Uma Thurman, it was practically destiny that daughter Maya Hawke would work with him. Maybe destiny isn’t the right word…perhaps what we’re looking for here is nepotism, that naughty word in Hollywood that sees children of celebrities being given opportunities because of who their parents are. But Maya Hawke isn’t bothered by nepotism one bit. In fact, she’s well aware that that’s why she was cast in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
In a piece in The Times, Maya Hawke acknowledged that Tarantino most certainly cast her as one of Charles Manson’s followers because of her parents, Thurman and Ethan Hawke. “I’ve been wildly made fun of for this clip when I said, on the red carpet, that I auditioned…I never meant to imply that I didn’t get the part for nepotistic...

Back in 1988, the world saw the success of an action flick following a one-man war against a gang of ruthless thieves. The first Die Hard movie made Bruce Willis one of the most demanded genre’s actors and started the successful movie franchise.
Die Hard’s legacy lives on to this day too, as there are many attempts to ride the same hype train or to mock the genre’s classic tropes. These include quite a controversial action flick that is now reigning supreme in Prime Video’s global top.
Its plot revolves around an actor who faces a career crisis and sees a way out in his idea to make a brand new action movie that can rekindle people’s interest in him. However, you can already guess that everything doesn’t go according to his plans.

Being in action movies is almost synonymous with getting injuries, and like many actors who are quite well-known in this genre, Bruce Willis has had his fair share of pain. The actor reportedly suffered from loss of hearing after performing a stunt in Die Hard, the movie franchise that propelled him to fame.

The actor never really talked about this extensively in his interviews so it remained a speculation. He would only mention that he had difficulty hearing, but his daughters Rumer and even Tallulah seemingly confirmed the accident.

Director cum producer Michael Bay has proven his star-studded worth in the entertainment industry one too many times, especially through the masterpieces he helmed for the multi-billionaire Transformers franchise. That said, the 59-year-old artist seemingly had no intention for his robotic saga to get a crossover with Dwayne Johnson’s $712 million worth G.I. Joe franchise.

Although it may seem surprising, this was Bay’s original decision regarding his franchise when this idea was proposed to him by Brian Robbins, the current CEO of Paramount, and was rightly so for a very understandable reason. However, Robbins seems to have eventually come out victorious over him, considering how a crossover movie between these two sagas is currently in the works.

Have you ever wondered about the intricate behind-the-scenes dynamics that can influence the trajectory of a TV show and the careers of those involved? Maya Hawke has addressed the “nepo baby” phenomenon head on, saying the reason she was cast in a big film role was totally for “nepotistic reasons.”
Hawke, the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, was cast by Quentin Tarantino in his 2019 movie Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. Hawke played Flower Child, one of Charles Manson’s followers, and at the time gave an interview saying she auditioned for the role.
Now she has told The Times of London she was mocked for saying that, and reflected: “I never meant to imply that I didn’t get the part for nepotistic reasons — I think I totally did.”
She added that Tarantino deliberately added her to the cast, which also included Margaret Qualley (Andie MacDowell’s daughter) and Rumer Willis (daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis), and that he was making an effort to “cast a lot of young Hollywood.

Iron Man 3 director Shane Black initially pursued an acting career before he became a renowned screenwriter and director in Hollywood, just like Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan. Before he directed the fourth movie in The Predator series, little did fans know that he had an acting role in the first movie alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was during this time that he sold the script for the classic buddy cop movie Lethal Weapon.

There are very few names in Hollywood as legendary as Quentin Tarantino. Having given some of the biggest cult classics of the last few decades, the director is rumored to be heading into retirement after completing his self-imposed quota of ten Hollywood projects.
While there were rumors that The Movie Critic starring both Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise would be his final offering to Hollywood, the project has since been scrapped, with no update on how the director plans to proceed next. One potential option seems to be a one-off Sgt. Rock movie, which Tarantino had previously admitted he himself considered.

Director Renny Harlin's "Cliffhanger" is a quintessential '90s action movie. The right movie at the right time, it is one of the few true breakout action flicks starring Sylvester Stallone that's not connected to "Rocky," "Rambo," or "The Expendables." It's a lean, fun, crowd-pleasing thriller that features John Lithgow in a great villain performance (a villain role that almost went to David Bowie) and remains a product of its time in the best of ways. It also might not have happened at all had "Die Hard" not become a huge success a handful of years earlier.
In a 2023 20th anniversary retrospective in The Telegraph, it's explained that "Cliffhanger" started with co-producer Gene Hines, who saw a TV show about mountain climbers in the mid-'80s. "That got him interested in the world of climbing," said co-producer Jim Zatolokin. "It's a dynamic and unique world with a lot of characters.

Hollywood veterans Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, and Bruce Willis are widely regarded as 3 of the greatest action heroes of all time, having gifted some of the most immersive pieces to the cinema. That’s why, when they collaborated for The Expendables films series, the result was nothing short of a pure blissful experience for audiences and big bucks for the actors.

Prior to 1999, the phrase "sixth sense" typically referred to a keen sense of intuition, often so powerful as to be considered a supernatural power. The definition, however, was broad, and people could be said to have "a sixth sense" about, say, predicting horse races. Since the release of M. Night Shyamalan's 1999 ghost story "The Sixth Sense," however, the phrase now more commonly refers to one's ability to see and communicate with the dead. The film was that popular. At any rate, that's the superpower possessed by the young Cole (Haley Joel Osment), something that causes a great deal of consternation to his psychologist Malcolm (Bruce Willis). How can one treat a child when mutilated ghosts are randomly appearing to him?

Demi Moore almost walked away from acting before making her Cannes debut in “The Substance.”
The iconic actress who has graced the screen since the 1980s told Entertainment Weekly that she was “questioning [her] own ability” in Hollywood for the last four years.
“It’s not like I ever officially ‘left,’ but I understand the sentiment and appreciate it because there hasn’t been a project or a role that has come along that has been this dynamic for me to really dive into and sink my teeth into,” Moore said. “I went through a period of even questioning whether this is what I should still be doing. In the last four years or so, I felt that it was a personal question that I wanted to explore and see: ‘Was this where I should be putting my energy?’ When you plant seeds, you wait to see what grows.”

Welcome to My Favorite Scene! In this series, IndieWire speaks to actors behind a few of our favorite television performances about their personal-best onscreen moment and how it came together.
IndieWire caught Lamorne Morris on the road. Headed to work on an unnamed set in Los Angeles, the “Fargo” Season 5 actor joked about an overcast day and rush-hour traffic. Asked how he was faring, he quipped on speakerphone, “Oh, I’m good! I’m in the car, just driving at high speeds recklessly. Very, veeery recklessly.”
The former “New Girl” actor may be many years entrenched in the Hollywood grind, but Morris is native to Chicago. A childhood spent in the American midwest helped him with the accent and demeanor needed for Deputy Witt Farr. Few types of movies sum up the 1990s quite like “dad thrillers.” A term popularized by the brilliant Max Read a few years ago, the dad thriller is a subgenre of thriller movies that was largely designed to appeal to older male viewers or otherwise featured thematic elements associated with that demographic. Yes, such movies often feature men being really good dads, but it’s about more than that. Dad thrillers were often closer to ’70s paranoia thrillers like Three Days of the Condor, which pitted crusaders of truth against staggering odds in a slow-burn narrative. They typically featured lawyers, law enforcement officers, military personnel, and dads in other thoroughly professional fields who were very good at their jobs. Many were based on books or otherwise inspired by the fictional and non-fictional texts dads of that generation loved to read. Some were theatrical hits but most of them found a home in living rooms everywhere.

After a stellar 1989, the Hollywood box office of 1990 was expected to be even better – but the film industry got taught some tough lessons.
Browsing the worldwide box office charts for 1989, and many a major studio executive would have been stroking their chin with some degree of comfort. The same old was working. The new things were working. Everything was getting better. The Christmas party was clearly going to be on the impressive side.
What 1989 had proven, after all, was the growing feeling that big stuff worked too. Tim Burton’s Batman had firmly introduced the idea of the huge opening weekend at the box office, and that a movie could become a cultural phenomenon. That patrons would leave the cinema and promptly seek out the soundtrack, the computer game, the book, the T-shirt, the novelty undercrackers.
But it wasn’t just Batman. 1989 proved to Hollywood that, for the most part,...

You’d lie if you say there is no interest in crime flicks, as they not only offer you to peep into the underworld and the lives of those who break law and order, but also let you be partially involved in the onscreen adventures and showdowns. Yes, the genre’s lovers can rewatch The Godfather, Casino or Goodfellas, but what about something new?
Here are 6 overlooked crime gems you need to discover, according to Redditors.

In 1988, Bruce Willis committed a most grievous offense against entertainment journalists: he proved them wrong. Really wrong. Laughably wrong.
The newly minted star of ABC's "Moonlighting" drew the ire of just about everyone in Hollywood when 20th Century Fox paid him a whopping $5 million to star in the action film "Die Hard." This rankled rival studio executives, who only shelled out that kind of cash for long-established leading men like Warren Beatty and Robert Redford. While Willis might've been a minor media sensation due to "Moonlighting," with his surprise Billboard smash "The Return of Bruno" and his omnipresent Bartles and Jaymes wine cooler commercials, he had yet to prove himself worthy of a $5 million big-screen payday.
Before "Die Hard," Willis had scored a solid theatrical hit with Blake Edwards' dismally unfunny "Blind Date." This was the extent of his motion picture oeuvre when Fox declared him a massive marquee name.

Based on Chris Marker's 1962 short film "La Jetée," Terry Gilliam's 1995 film "12 Monkeys" begins in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic wasteland ravaged by a deadly virus. Cities are already being reclaimed by plants and animals, and humans have moved into cage-like, nightmarish structures underground. Despite the dire circumstances, humans still adhere to a frustrating bureaucracy, forcing mentally detached people to attend meetings and make plans. Luckily, humans also have access to a time machine, and they have selected James Cole (Bruce Willis) to go back in time to 1990 -- and then again to 1996 -- to find out more about the virus and help find a cure. Because it's a Terry Gilliam film, the picture doesn't exactly end on a note of hope.
Terry Gilliam's films tend to be fraught affairs, usually wracked with production problems, delays, and other things that are out of the filmmaker's control; he seems to be very unlucky.

The highest-paid actors in Hollywood — Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr., Keanu Reeves, and others — could easily command millions of dollars in upfront salary. For Avengers: Endgame, Downey Jr. earned a $20 million upfront salary and a $75 million total income. The precedent for these humongous salaries was Elizabeth Taylor’s upfront salary of $1 million for Cleopatra.

Demi Moore teased details of her role in Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming Paramount+ drama Landman and revealed she expects to be back on set for a second season in early 2025.

Director Renny Harlin has made some of your favorite movies. He's also made some total stinkers. And the beauty of speaking to the filmmaker -- who has carved out a unique niche across horror and action cinema for past four decades -- is that he's completely aware of it. Here is a director who has been around long enough, who has seen every facet of the filmmaking machine from all possible angles, that he's willing to be straight-up honest about it. Like anyone with a filmography this large (and this wild), he has stories to share.
When I sat down with Harlin over Zoom to chat about his new movie, the horror reboot "The Strangers: Chapter 1," I hoped we could talk about his entire filmography. But 30 jam-packed minutes later, my time was up, and the sheer number of noteworthy movies we didn't get to was astonishing. But we did...

When movie fans think of action stars, names like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Donnie Yen, Bruce Willis, and Jason Statham come to mind. What’s your favorite Pulp Fiction scene? There are so, so many to choose from, but did you know the most complicated (and expensive) scene to shoot was one of the movie’s most celebrated, non-violent moments? Indeed, today we break down the iconic Jack Rabbit Slim’s scene from Quentin Tarantino’s smash 1994 hit- Pulp Fiction. The film follows multiple characters that are seemingly unrelated as their paths intertwine in various ways. At the center of the film is Vincent Vega (John Travolta)- a hitman and enforcer for a local crime boss. Vincent is asked by his employer to take his wife out on the town so she doesn’t get lonely while he’s away on business. Enter Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman) as the gorgeous and somewhat mysterious wife.
What ensues is a platonic date that feels like a nice break from the film’s otherwise violent and gritty tone.

Moore stars in filmmaker Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance opposite Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid. Little is known about Fargeat’s sophomore feature — she debuted with 2017’s stylish Revenge — other than that it’s being referred to as a feminist take on body horror.
Cannes has given The Substance a late-night slot for its world premiere on Sunday, May 19, confirming a busy weekend for Moore. As previously announced, the actress will also take on the role of godmother for luxury jewelry house Chopard’s Trophée Chopard gala ceremony. The event, at Carlton Beach Club on May 17, will see rising star honors presented to Challengers star Mike Faist and...

Imperator Furiosa is, in my humble opinion, one of the most important characters to hit the big screen in the last 20 years. She represents a justified rage often denied to women in post-apocalyptic films, a physical capability typically reserved for men who have been shaved down from slabs of meat on a GyroKone, and serves as a protector of the five wives — a woman looking after other women who are treated as little more than a form of currency. When "Mad Max: Fury Road" director George Miller expressed a desire to make a standalone epic prequel focusing on Furiosa, fans were thrilled at the prospect. Charlize Theron beautifully brought Furiosa to life, so it was only natural that she'd be brought back for the film.
During a special screening of "Furiosa" and a press event with Miller at IMAX Headquarters, he explained that replacing Theron was a matter of logistics.
