Patience is a virtue, especially if you're a sci-fi fan.
When it comes to genre TV, science fiction and sci-fi adjacent programs are often saved when unceremoniously dumped by a network.
Jericho, Lucifer, The Expanse, and Stargate Sg-1 all found new life after cancellation. Today, Snowpiercer joins that list.
AMC Networks announced today that it has acquired the exclusive U.S. linear and streaming rights to all four seasons of the post-apocalyptic drama series Snowpiercer.
The first three seasons of the critically acclaimed drama will stream on AMC+ later this year, leading up to the series’ season four premiere on AMC and AMC+ in early 2025.
This should come as excellent news for TV Fanatics, as the show always drove discussion and fueled passionate viewers with much to say.

Black Bear’s management arm has signed award-winning Quebec director Sophie Dupuis for representation. Most recently, Dupuis’ third picture, “Solo,” premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, where it won the award for best Canadian film. The film, which was written and directed by Dupuis, stars fellow Black Bear client Théodore Pellerin. It is set in Montreal’s drag queen scene.
Critics embraced the film with SlashFilm calling it “a vibrant portrait of queer nightlife” and the Toronto Star praising the work as a “dexterous film that combines bold images with the quiet beat of a heart torn asunder two ways.”
Dupuis’ previous work, which also showcases her impactful storytelling and her focus on human complexity, has been widely lauded. Her feature film debut, the crime drama “Family First,” earned four Canadian Screen Awards. It was selected as Canada’s submission for best foreign language film at the 2018 Academy Awards.

The arrival of a fresh, new voice on the indie filmmaking scene is always an exciting event and the latest debut on our radar is that from Chelsea Bo, producer of Joshua Leonard’s Fully Realized Humans and Sarah Adina Smith’s The Drop. Written, directed, and starring Bo, No Right Way is set for a fall festival tour and now we’re pleased to exclusively debut the trailer for the film, following the journey of half-sisters.
Also starring Ava Acres, Eliza Coupe-Marks, Jim Hanks, and Sufe Bradshaw, here’s the official synopsis: “Georgie, a brazen 13-year-old, has her life uprooted when she’s thrust into the guardianship of her half-sister Harper and torn away from her life in Vegas. Harper sees this turbulent time as a window of opportunity to pave a brighter future for her half-sister, but Harper’s self-righteous attempts to protect Georgie only lead to exposing their paralleled childhood wounds.

It’s July 11, the night before SAG-AFTRA’s last day of negotiating with the studios before the actors’ union would decide to go on strike, and tensions are high in Hollywood. Tensions are also high in Glendale, where Anna Konkle has been wrongly accused of stinking up the restroom of Din Tai Fung.
Minutes earlier, she’d limped into the dumpling restaurant — “I’m Anna! I got a splinter!” — before heading to the toilet, and she swears all she did in there was tweeze the debris out of her foot.
“Someone — this is so rude of me — had explosive diarrhea. I was like, ‘If that were me, I wouldn’t want anyone to see my face,’” Konkle says, glancing around at the crowd surrounding us. To offer the troubled pooper some privacy, she didn’t exit her stall until she heard them wash their hands and leave. But her politeness...

British rapper Abra Cadabra’s acting debut, “Trapping,” directed by Penny Woolcock (“Ackley Bridge”), will premiere on new pay-per-view streaming platform The Drop, which will launch on the same day.
The film delves into the world of “going county” or “Ot” (out of town), where children as young as six, and teenagers, are groomed by county line (the mobile phone line used to take drug orders) gangs to carry and sell drugs, move far away from their homes, skip school, sleep in out-of-town “trap houses” and drug dens, keep secrets from their loved ones, and become trapped in a hopeless situation.
It follows the story of likeable London teenager Daz (Louis Ede), who sees dealing drugs as a route to easy cash to help his struggling family. As Daz becomes more involved in a county lines gang and is taken under the wing of lead member Magic (Abra Cadabra), he...

As SAG-AFTRA nears its June 30 bargaining deadline amid the Writers Guild of America strike, the Canadian film and TV industry is closely watching for ripple effects of Hollywood’s production shutdown north of the border. Film studios across the country remain dark or filled with homegrown shoots and anxious local talent and crews, dependent on big-budget U.S. film and TV series for work, question when they’ll get back on set.

HBO Max is no more. In its place are…HBO and Max. Warner Bros. Discovery’s big change to its premier streaming service was simply to take the “HBO” off of the name “HBO Max,” leaving just “Max.” But in announcing its list of new releases for Max in June 2023, Warner is highlighting all of the HBO content anyway. So here is everything you can expect to find on Max (including every new HBO show) this month.

We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished together, and we know Mike will continue to do incredible work in his next endeavor.”
Deadline understands Larocca’s departure is amicable and he’s eyeing the next chapter of his career. He leaves Agbo on high note with the studio being reportedly evaluated at $1.1 billion after receiving a $400M investment (for 38% stake) from Tokyo based video game maker, Nexon Co. Ltd last year.

Legendary Entertainment’s remake of the infamous 1978 box office hit Faces of Death (get it Here) is now filming in Louisiana, and Deadline reports that Jermaine Fowler of Sorry to Bother You, The Drop, Coming 2 America, and the upcoming horror comedy The Blackening has been cast in the movie. Fowler joins previously announced cast members Barbie Ferreira of the HBO series Euphoria, Dacre Montgomery of Netflix’s Stranger Things, Josie Totah of the recent Saved by the Bell revival, and singer Charli Xcx.
The first Faces of Death was about a pathologist exploring gruesome ways to die via footage purportedly culled from around the world. In reality, most of the death scenes were staged, but no matter, the movie had its producers’ desired effect: outrage, revulsion, banning, and, of course, a money-making hit that spawned sequels and imitators. Two highly-anticipated comedy series are hitting streaming platforms this week, the excruciatingly relatable "Beef" on Netflix and the musical prequel series, "Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies" on Paramount+. Meanwhile, there are films like "The Drop" and "Mayhem" available to stream that might help viewers get ready for a series like "Beef." Both flicks are exclusive to their prospective streaming platforms, so hopefully you've got Hulu and Shudder in addition to Netflix. There's also the Netflix series "Julie and the Phantoms" and the oft-forgotten "Grease 2" on Paramount+ to serve as the perfect companion pieces to "Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies." Last-up, there's also the Prime Video series "Paper Girls" which manages to capture the girl-power energy of the new prequel series while boasting a stand-out performance by one of the stars of "Beef."

Mark Duplass and Sterling K. Brown have survived the apocalypse. Now what?
The “Safety Not Guaranteed” star and “This Is Us” alum actor play the two last men on Earth who must adapt and evolve to save humanity in Mel Eslyn’s debut feature “Biosphere.” The film premiered at 2022 TIFF and is executive produced by Mark Duplass and Jay Duplass.
Per the official synopsis, Billy (Duplass) and Ray (Brown) are lifelong best friends, brothers from another mother —they also happen to be the last two men on Earth. Their survival is largely due to Ray, a brilliant scientist who designed the custom biosphere they call home, outfitting it with both creature comforts and the necessities to sustain life on a doomed planet. When the population of their fishpond — which supplies essential protein — begins waning, the men find themselves facing an ominous future. But life may yet find a way…

Celebrities have a long history of bringing their siblings, parents, and loved ones as their dates to red carpet events. On March 14, Michael Gandolfini, 23, kept the tradition alive when he brought his mom, Marcy Wudarski, as his plus one to the Los Angeles premiere of his new AppleTV+ series, "Extrapolations," costarring Meryl Streep, Kit Harington, and Tobey Maguire. Ahead of the premiere, Gandolfini and Wudarski expertly posed for the cameras to the surprise of no one as the mother-son duo has been walking red carpets together for over a decade.
For the young actor - whose father was the late James Gandolfini, best known as Tony Soprano in "The Sopranos" - posing for photographers is nothing new. The mother-son duo made their first notable red carpet appearance at the Film Independent Spirit Awards in 2014. That same year, Michael, who has been acting since he was 12, walked the red carpet with...

The Drop, a new Hulu original comedy, follows a married couple and the issues they face in their relationship when one of them drops a baby while they’re on a tropical vacation.
Jermaine Fowler, who plays Mani, took the time to sit for a conversation with uInterview founder Erik Meers to discuss what he thinks the film says about relationships.
“They’re not perfect. Relationships aren’t perfect,” Fowler responded. Your partner is not perfect and you don’t have to do things the way society or even your parents have done them. You can have an unconventional relationship, an unconventional love. It’s fine. I think those are things we’re faced with today. Those questions like, ‘What is love?’ I feel like this movie sort of speaks to that in a lot of ways and I feel like every character is going through their individual sort of prices.

Nothing puts a relationship to the test like going on vacation together. Or, in the case of “The Drop,” a destination wedding. Director and co-writer Sarah Adina Smith cranks up the cringe comedy dial by turning what should be a celebratory event into a nightmare, putting at least one couple’s future in jeopardy. While this sounds relatively paint-by-numbers, the unexpected accident that causes this rupture delivers a fresh perspective.

“The Drop” announces itself with promise and a fine note of unease, thanks to a surprisingly contrapuntal score that signals the darker intentions of director Sarah Adina Smith’s comedy, which is set in motion by an accident that reveals young marrieds Lex and Mani’s anxieties about parenthood — and, perhaps, each other.
Far below an aerial shot, jade-green waves crest and unfurl to the swelling and swirling notes of an orchestra. The patterns are mesmerizing, shape-shifting from recognizable into what might resemble a spider’s web or a membrane (the sort you might see in a sci-fi movie with a fetus floating in uterine tissue). From this beautiful, extended image, cut to Lex (“Pen15” star Anna Konkle) and Mani (Jermaine Fowler) making love and, fingers crossed and sperm willing, a baby.
It’s a bold and amusing veer in tone, intended to signal both the weight and wit to come.

If January sets the tone for any streamer’s year then 2023 is certainly going to be the Year of True Crime on Hulu. That’s right, Hulu’s list of new releases for January 2023 is highlight by several new true crime docuseries (and one charmingly goofy animated hero).
The true crime docuseries fest gets started with Death in the Dorms on Jan. 5. That will be followed by How I Caught My Killer on Jan. 12, and Web of Death on Jan. 19. The first is a six-episode series that will follow the real life case of murders at UCLA, while the latter two will both present several different stories.
It’s not just all true crime in January for Hulu. Jan. 9 sees the arrival of Koala Man, an animated series that envisions an Australian crime fighter of the same name. Also premiering is season 2 of How I Met Your Mather (Jan. 24) and superhero drama Extraordinary (Jan.

"The Drop" is a title that could lend itself to any number of things. We've already seen one Tom Hardy movie, for instance, where "The Drop" referred to a money drop by the Chechen mafia at a Brooklyn bar. That movie was a crime drama, whereas Sarah Adina Smith's new Hulu cringe comedy, "The Drop," features a much more "unthinkable, unspeakable" premise.
What if you dropped a friend's baby? It's a horrific idea as a thought and an absolute tragedy in real life, but in "The Drop," it happens. Fortunately, though, the baby is unharmed. Less intact, however, is the reputation of the happy young couple responsible for the titular drop while on an island trip with friends. For them, the repercussions seem to be almost as serious as those in the 2015 NBC miniseries "The Slap," which leveraged a ridiculously star-studded cast to tell a more melodramatic story of...

"Some things you can’t take back… like dropping your friend's baby." Hulu has revealed the official trailer for a romantic comedy mishap movie titled The Drop, which originally premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. The film will land on Hulu for streaming in January after playing at festivals this year. In this cringe comedy, a married couple face a marriage test when one of them drops a baby during a tropical island wedding. "Paradise becomes purgatory for our couple as recriminations, passive-aggression and old wounds begin to permeate the island reunion and throw Mani & Lex's future into deep uncertainty." Anna Konkle & Jermaine Fowler star as Lex & Mani, with Jillian Bell, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Robin Thede, Aparna Nancherla, Joshua Leonard, Jennifer Lafleur, and Elisha Henig. Exec produced by the Duplass Brothers. This looks remarkably unfunny and forced, an awkward cringe fest because the writing and performances are so bad.

Can one lousy moment destroy a relationship? A young couple finds themselves at the center of controversy in “The Drop.” The Hulu film reveals everything that hides beneath pleasantries; set during an island destination wedding, the relationships of all involved are challenged by a singular accident. While it might seem like a dramatic inspection of current relationships, this project uses a comedic approach to get audiences thinking.
The film hails from director and co-writer Sarah Adina Smith.

Anyone who has held a newborn baby can likely recall a horrifying, intrusive thought entering their head at the worst possible moment: “What if I drop it?”
It’s a valid concern, considering how small and delicate newborn babies are. Fortunately, it’s not a problem that many people actually have to face at any point in their lives. Whether it’s because humans have evolved to protect their offspring at all costs or because we just focus really hard on not dropping them, there just aren’t that many babies getting dropped on any given day.
But that’s exactly what happens in “The Drop,” Sarah Adina Smith’s new Hulu comedy that hails from executive producers Jay and Mark Duplass. The film, which debuts on the streaming service January 13, follows a young couple who think they have their careers figured out and begin making plans to start a family of their own.

Hulu has ordered a second season of Tell Me Lies.
Based on Carola Lovering’s novel, Tell Me Lies follows a tumultuous but intoxicating relationship as it unfolds over the course of eight years. When Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White) meet at college, they are at that formative age when seemingly mundane choices lead the way to irrevocable consequences. Although their relationship begins like any typical campus romance, they quickly fall into an addictive entanglement that will permanently alter not only their lives, but the lives of everyone around them.

Exclusive: Hulu has announced that the R-rated dark comedy The Drop from executive producers Mark and Jay Duplass will bow on the streamer on January 13. New stills from the Hulu Original, starring Anna Konkle (PEN15) and Jermaine Fowler (Coming 2 America), can be found above and below.
Directed by Sarah Adina Smith, The Drop follows Lex (Konkle) and Mani (Fowler), a happily married young couple, running their dream artisanal bakery in Los Angeles and excited about starting a family together. A trip to a tropical island resort for a friend’s destination wedding, coinciding with Lex’s ovulation cycle, feels like the perfect opportunity to conceive. But good vibes and high hopes are cut short when, shortly after their arrival to paradise, Lex accidentally drops her friend’s baby in front of all their friends. Paradise becomes purgatory for our couple as recriminations,...

Lionsgate has come out the winner in a bidding war over the distribution rights to director Tim Story’s horror comedy The Blackening, which made its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last month. Deadline reported that three offers, which were “just short of 20 million”, were made by potential distributors soon after the premiere screening. Apparently Lionsgate had the most appealing offer on the table. Now they’re planning to give the film a wide theatrical release.
Story directed The Blackening from a screenplay by Tracy Oliver and Dewayne Perkins. Inspired by a Perkins-scripted 3Peat comedy sketch that aired on Comedy Central in 2018, the film is about
a group of Black friends who go away for the weekend only to find themselves trapped in a cabin with a killer who forces them to play a game with life-or-death consequences. The idea asks a reasonable question: since it seems that...

As anyone who failed to get within hearing distance of Wolf Alice at Reading 2022 will tell you, alternative rock is having a moment (again). Key to the acclaim and success in this new wave, which should really be called all-wave, is to encompass a wide variety of indie and pop styles past and present, thereby befuddling the almighty algorithm into recommending you to everyone.
Which makes London’s Sports Team the natural successors to Wolf Alice. A fiercely ambitious bunch – they booked an early gig at the Scala back when their entire social media following combined wouldn’t have filled the place, but still sold it out – their shows are colourful affairs, often involving costume box outfits, hand-painted cardboard cats and coach trips to Margate. Their music is just as unpredictable. Debut album Deep Down Happy hit No 2 in 2020 on the strength of a smorgasbord of quirky, quickfire songs running...

Tom Hardy is an incredibly intense actor. Even if he's making something as goofily mainstream as "Venom," he throws everything he's got into the role. This can be a bit off-putting at times. His thick Brooklyn accent as Eddie Brock is a wildly heightened variation on the character he played in Michaêl R. Roskam's hugely underrated "The Drop"; it takes some getting used to, and some people just can't get there. But, hey, at least you can understand what he's saying, as opposed to his voice-modulated portrayal of Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises."
In any event, be it a comic book movie or a deathly serious Alejandro González Iñárritu drama, Hardy fully commits – even if he's not entirely sure where the film is headed. This was the case with Christopher Nolan's "Inception," a metatextual action film that unfolds on a grand, blockbuster scale. He knew he was...
