The Shawshank Redemption director Frank Darabont was once approached to write a Star Wars film for George Lucas. The Star Wars director was not the best at writing dialogue and tried seeking outside help for the same. However, Darabont couldn’t go through with the negotiations to write Lucas’ Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. The Green Mile director explained that he couldn’t affiliate himself with the project since it was a non-guild job.

One of the projects that made sure got the push to completion after the strikes had settled last year was Deadpool & Wolverine. Marvel made sure that their much-hyped sequel to the popular Deadpool franchise would make its release this summer. Hugh Jackman’s return to the role and donning the iconic yellow costume is enough of a reason that got fans excited, and Jackman himself couldn’t believe it took this long to get to wear the comic-inspired suit. “We almost did it in The Wolverine,” Jackman said. “But from the moment I put it on here, I was like, ‘How did we never do this?’ It looked so right, it felt so right. I was like, ‘That’s him.’ There are different sides of Wolverine we haven’t seen before in the movies. It was exciting for me.“

The last Stranger Things season dropped almost two years ago with many things changing for the Hawkins crew. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting bigger and bigger. Apart from Marvel’s first family making it into the universe, the fan-favorite X-Men, too, have finally made it to superhero verse. After Beau DeMayo’s X-Men ’97 showed how well Marvel is capable of handling the team, the prospects of the mutants making it to live-action have certainly garnered enough attention and excitement from fans.
After X-Men ’97, Marvel fans can hardly wait for X-Men’s live-action debut | Marvel Animation
This has resulted in fans making several casting suggestions and promoting various actors for different roles. And among the many actors being promoted by fans, Stranger Things star Sadie Sink has become a popular choice for Jean Grey. Lili Reinhart (“Riverdale”) is leading the cast of an upcoming thriller titled American Sweatshop, with Deadline reporting that the film will explore the dark side of the internet.
“In a device driven world,” Deadline details, “American Sweatshop will take a look at the toll of social media through the eyes of Daisy Moriarty (Reinhart), who while dealing with a chaotic personal life, finds herself sucked into the underbelly of the internet.
“Moriarty, and a motley group of coworkers, toil in a cottage industry of agencies that evaluate harmful and offensive pictures and videos uploaded to social media. With detached caution and a deranged sense of humor, they examine the millions of posts that get ‘flagged for review.’
“But one particularly violent video grabs hold of Daisy, luring her out of this office, away from the safety of her keyboard and into a dangerous world as she obsessively seeks to hold someone accountable.

Dear friends, we've been waiting for this for an incredibly long time, and it's finally happened! The long-awaited third season of Bridgerton landed on Netflix yesterday, May 16, two years after Season 2 was released. But amidst all the incredibly high and loud excitement among viewers of one of Netflix's flagship series, there has been fan angst over the streaming service's policy. After all, we waited two full years to finally get... just four episodes of the new season.
Yes, folks, back in December 2023, it was announced that Bridgerton Season 3 would be split into two parts, with a one-month difference in release. For many, this is very disappointing news, and while the Part 1 finale left many on the edge of their seats, such a long wait left an underwhelming impression. So why was Season 3 split in half, and is Netflix's decision to do so putting Bridgerton's popularity at risk of plummeting in the near future?...

In the horror-thriller, director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Crawl) has the remote house in the woods fitted with a long ropes to enable mother and sons to remain connected at all times as unseen dangers approach.
“The evil out there is clever. One touch without a rope is all it takes,” Berry’s character tells her sons at one point in the trailer, as they commit to keep tethered to the ropes for safety and connection. But as demonic forces engulf their off-the-grid house, one of the twins questions whether evil exists.

Lionsgate has shared the official trailer for Never Let Go, the upcoming psychological thriller directed by Alexandre Aja.
Written by Kc Coughlin and Ryan Grassby, the horror film will open in theaters on September 27, 2024.
From the executive producers of Stranger Things and Arrival comes Never Let Go. In this new psychological thriller/horror, as an Evil takes over the world beyond their front doorstep, the only protection for a mother, played by Academy Award winner Halle Berry (Monster’s Ball), and her twin sons is their house and their family’s protective bond.
Needing to stay connected at all times—even tethering themselves with ropes—they cling to one another, urging each other never to let go. But when one of the boys questions if the evil is real, the ties that bind them together are severed, triggering a terrifying fight for survival.

Oooh, this looks creepy.
"Never Let Go" is a new horror film from Alexandre Aja, director of the pretty good remake of "The Hills Have Eyes" and the excellent killer alligator movie "Crawl." With his new feature, Aja seems to be channeling "A Quiet Place" crossed with a bit of the supernatural, resulting in this effective trailer. In "Never Let Go," Halle Berry plays a mother who is hiding out in the woods with her twin sons. According to Berry's character, these are post-apocalyptic times. Berry tells her sons that they'll be safe as long as they tether themselves to the secluded cabin where they're hiding out. But what's really going on here? And what's lurking out in the woods? I don't know. All I know is that the dog that shows up in the trailer better make it out alive.

After crafting some of the most entertaining B-movies in recent years with Crawl and Oxygen, Alexandre Aja is returning with a new one-location psychological thriller this year. Never Let Go, not to be confused with Kazuo Ishiguro’s book and Mark Romanek’s adaptation, stars Halle Berry, Percy Daggs IV, and Anthony B. Jenkins. Ahead of a September release, the first trailer has now arrived.
Here’s the synopsis: “From visionary director Alexandre Aja and the creative minds behind Stranger Things and Arrival comes Never Let Go. In this new psychological thriller/horror, as an Evil takes over the world beyond their front doorstep, the only protection for a mother, played by Academy Award® winner Halle Berry, and her twin sons is their house and their family’s protective bond. Originally announced last year under the title Mother Land, the next film from director Alexandre Aja (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D, Crawl) is now titled Never Let Go, and Lionsgate has released the official trailer this morning. Watch it below.
Never Let Go arrives in theaters on September 27, 2024. The premise for this one looks to be similar to films including A Quiet Place and Bird Box, centered on a small family unit’s struggle to survive within a world gone to hell. There’s a whole lot of snake-like imagery in this first look trailer – jump to 1:44 for a blink-and-miss-it little tease… or check out our screen-grab below – but the threat outside their door is still very much a mystery at this point in time.
All we know is… one touch is all it takes…
Academy Award winner Halle Berry is leading the film’s cast.

A year and a half after Netflix launched an ad-supported tier, the dominant streamer made an upfront pitch — at least in person, in Manhattan — for the first time. There was bragging about the overwhelming statistics of annual hours viewed, a second appearance this week from Jamie Foxx and an open invite for deeper relationships with brands looking to cash in on Netflix’s wildly popular slate. Just ask Mindy Kaling.
“It’s [a series] about a strong woman making it in the male-dominated world of professional basketball,” the writer-producer said of her latest creation for the streamer, Running Point, “and I cannot wait to fill it with commercials about laundry detergent, anti-depression medication, cigarettes, whatever you guys wanna sell … Picture Kate Hudson smoking an e-cigarette.”
“Smoking is so cool,” added Hudson, the series’ star.
Obviously, the duo were hamming it up. (There are still laws about cigarette advertising, right?) Plus, prior to their bit,...

The streamer dropped an update on its ad-supported numbers this week, even as data shows it lags behind other streamers in the U.S. in ad-supported signups.
Netflix wants to put any speculation about the success of its ad-supported Standard with Ads plan to rest. The world’s biggest streamer in terms of subscribers was already dominating headlines on Wednesday with the news that it had inked a deal to stream a select package of NFL games for each of the next three seasons, but it doubled down on its big week by taking the opportunity to announce that it had grown to 40 million ad-supported streaming customers around the world, a big gain over the last time it provided an update on its ad tier in January.
Key Details: Netflix had 23 million ad-supported customers in January and just 15 million in October. The ad-supported plan first launched in November 2022. Recent data...

A small group of advertisers were serenaded by Metallica’s Master of Puppets (one of those songs that Stranger Things brought to a new generation) as they walked into Netflix’s first in-person Upfront.
Held at Pier 59 Studios in New York, the event had the feeling of an immersive theater experience with a lot of black t-shirt-clad staff handing out drinks.
It comes as the streamer unveiled a number of new series and films including a new Kevin Williamson drama, a bull riding drama starring Tim McGraw and a slew of sports docs as well as more episodes of 3 Body Problem.
Shonda Rhimes kicked things off, talking up her move from ABC to Netflix, saying that she’s doing things that can’t always be done on broadcast television. “The definition of a Netflix show is one that people like to watch,” she said before introducing a sneak peek of Bridgerton’s third season,...

Horror fans tend to treat their favorite movies — no matter how schlocky or cheaply-made — as sacred cows, which puts an immeasurable amount of pressure on anyone who dares to remake, reboot, or legacyquel a beloved title. And yet, director Danishka Esterhazy handled that pressure with ease for her fantastic meta-remake of "Slumber Party Massacre," and quickly solidified herself as one of the most exciting new voices in horror.
Esterhazy had already earned a great deal of goodwill with her twisted take on "The Banana Splits Movie," and well-versed aficionados likely first learned of her work with the gripping sci-fi dystopian flick "Level 16," about a prison-like boarding school for girls harboring a demented secret. And luckily for fans of all things scary and slasher, Esterhazy has a new film coming to the Tubi streaming service on May 17, 2024, called "Killer Body Count." Stranger Things is one of the most iconic pieces of sci-fi horror of this generation. The Netflix series quickly amassed a mass following after the first season, and the numbers kept climbing with every subsequent season. The end of the series in 2022 was a much-awaited event, and it spawned many collaborations with other pop culture franchises.
One of these was Dead by Daylight, the asymmetrical online multiplayer that allows players to become their favorite supernatural villains. Given the theme of the game, Stranger Things fits right into the mix, and we now have another addition from the series coming to the game.

In the 2000s, the shonen genre was dominated by the Big Three, featuring none other than Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece. If we talk solely in terms of numbers, then Bleach has not done as amazing as the other two. However, Tite Kubo’s manga and anime series has continued to attract fans through its captivating plot, and a protagonist that stood out from the rest.

Unlike other anime series, Tite Kubo’s magnum opus keeps his fans hooked with its layered and incredibly strong antagonists. After pioneering feature length computer animated features with "Toy Story," Pixar Animation became the gold standard for the medium. But it wasn't just because of the innovative animation style providing a new palette for storytelling. Like the many Walt Disney Animation movies that came in the decades before Pixar rose to prominence, the filmmakers at Pixar had a knack for finding the perfect voices for their characters. Whether it was Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as Woody and Buzz Lightyear or Patton Oswalt as Remy in "Ratatoiulle," Pixar has always let the perfect voices shine in their work, even if they don't come from the biggest stars. That's especially true with "Inside Out."
In "Inside Out," a stellar ensemble came together to voice the core emotions inside the mind of an 11-year old girl named Riley. Amy Poehler delivered boundless exuberance and enthusiasm as Joy, Phyllis Smith brought an adorable melancholy to Sadness,...

The MTV Movie & TV Awards is taking another break. Variety has confirmed that the event, which would have normally taken place around this time of year, will instead sit 2024 out — with an eye toward returning next year, perhaps in a different, “reimagined” format.
It’s been a bumpy decade for the MTV Movie & TV Awards, which first began in 1992 (as the MTV Movie Awards). Last’s year’s event was forced to pivot to a pre-taped clip show in light of the Hollywood writers’ strike, as host Drew Barrymore bowed out and the WGA announced plans to picket the ceremony.
Meanwhile, in 2020, the MTV Movie & TV Awards also didn’t take place, due in part to the Covid-19 pandemic, but also because the network had planned to move the franchise (long a spring/early summer staple) to December. Ultimately, instead of an awards show, MTV ran a “MTV Movie & TV...

Dearest readers: It’s Bridgerton Week at IndieWire, and we’re celebrating the new season by diving deep on one of the best romance shows on TV.
By now, you know the score. “Squid Game” is Netflix’s most-watched original series ever. “Stranger Things” has two seasons in the Top 10, and “Wednesday” surged into third place with its debut season. Only these three shows have eclipsed 1 billion hours viewed on Netflix in their first 28 days of release.
Such figures are impressive, and indeed, “Squid Game,” “Stranger Things,” and “Wednesday” are extremely valuable franchises for Netflix. In addition to their mass appeal, “Squid Game” has remarkable international demand. “Stranger Things” has been the face of Netflix for nearly a decade, hooking a broad fanbase of kids and adults alike. “Wednesday” soared on the wings of its Gen Z star, Jenna Ortega, and there’s no telling how many generations will be...

Stars: Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chika Kanamoto, Emerson Min, Sticky Fingaz, Ji Yong Lee, Andrey Ivchenko, Kristanna Loken, Shannen Doherty, Cynthia Rothrock, Weston Cage, Kris Van Damme | Written by James Cullen Bressack, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Alethea Hnatko-Cho | Directed by James Cullen Bressack
Jean-Claude Van Damme has kept a fairly low profile compared to many other 80s action heroes. And that includes such non-genre appearances as voice acting in kids films like Kung Fu Panda 2 and 3, Minions: The Rise of Gru as well as a cameo in the French comedy Haters. However, Darkness of Man sees him return to the Dtv action spotlight
As the film opens, Russel Hatch lies in a puddle of his own blood, bleeding out from several bullet wounds. He tells us in voice-over that, like every story, this began with a woman. And we go back to Miami two years prior when Hatch was an Interpol agent.

This article contains spoilers through Stranger Things season 4 and The Walking Dead.
To kill or not to kill? This is the question so many shows with large ensemble casts wrestle with as the tensions rise and the stakes become fatal deeper into the series. The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones took great pleasure in cutting down leading players like blades of grass in the springtime sun. It kept viewers on their toes, but it also hindered the strength of the respective casts. When too many fan favorites are whacked, it tests the loyalty of the people watching at home and the skills of the writers and directors to form a coherent story with the crumbs that remain.
Stranger Things weighs in on the other end of the spectrum. The Duffer Brothers have kept essentially every cherished character locked into the show from the debut season to the most recent one.
