“3 Body Problem” will end with its third season on Netflix.
The sci-fi adaptation, which launched its first season in March, is officially set to air second and third installments before coming to a close, offering clarity to the streamer’s previous statement that it would return “with all-new episodes to take viewers through the full journey of this epic saga.”
The news was announced during the show’s Netflix Fysee panel on Friday.
The update comes less than a month after “3 Body Problem” was renewed mid-May during Netflix’s upfront presentation in New York City. However, the extent of that renewal was previously unclear.
“We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion,” creators David Benioff, D.B. Weiss and Alexander Woo said in a joint statement at the time. “Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy,...

A “300” TV series adaptation is in early development at Warner Bros. Television, Variety has learned from sources.
Exact plot details are still being worked out, but sources say that the show would serve as a prequel to the 2006 film. No writer or platform is currently attached to the project.
Deals are still being negotiated, but Zack Snyder, who directed and co-wrote “300,” is in talks to direct and executive produce the series. Deborah Snyder, who executive produced “300,” would also return as an executive producer under her and Zack’s Stone Quarry production banner, with Stone Quarry’s Wesley Coller also on board.

As a child actress in film and television, Gaby Hoffmann was known for roles that leaned, as she called it in a recent interview with The Independent, “punchy” and “precocious.” Being a kid of New York City in the ‘80s, surrounded by parents who were actors and their artist friends, perhaps she was always destined to have a unique sense of freedom in her presence. Starring in the recent Netflix miniseries “Eric” with Benedict Cumberbatch, which takes place in ‘80s New York City, Hoffmann plays a mother whose son has gone missing. Stepping back into the past has made Hoffmann reflect on some of the choices she’s made during her career, like giving up acting for college.
“I knew it wasn’t a knee-jerk reaction,” she said of eventually returning to the profession. “Or something I was doing because I had done it and didn’t know what else to do,...

Rebecca Ferguson is quickly becoming a titan of the entertainment industry and she’s embracing it. She’s starred in blockbuster franchises like “Mission Impossible” and “Dune,” runaway hits like the musical “The Greatest Showman,” and is now — along with her lead role on the show — taking on the position of executive producer on the Apple TV+ smash “Silo.” In a recent interview on the “Unwrapped” podcast, Ferguson shared how her declining the role of Juliette Nichols led to her being brought on to the larger production team.
“They’re asking for a big dedication here,” Ferguson said of being offered the part. “It’s asking for me to do four seasons of a show. I need to be yearning for this. “The Regime” showrunner Stephen Frears is a man of few words when it comes to music — at least according to award-winning composer Alexandre Desplat. But that wasn’t a bad thing. The two had previously collaborated, and Desplat liked that approach, as it gave him free reign to come up with compositions that he could bring back to the director.
Recruited for HBO’s “The Regime,” starring Kate Winslet as the chancellor who reigns over an unnamed Central European country, Desplat looked to Winslet’s acting, design and costumes for inspiration. “The music needed to be charged with humor, but not too much,...

It’s been nearly two years since “Industry” last aired, but the Season 3 premiere wastes no time getting the hot young bankers of London’s high finance world back into trouble. On Friday night in Austin, TX, HBO presented the first episode in its entirety at the Atx Television Festival, and the nearly full theater was whipped into a frenzy by the time the credits rolled. Multiple gasps were heard throughout the hourlong screening — the causes of which will not be spoiled here — and, especially lucky for the fans in the theater, co-creators Konrad Kay and Mickey Down were on-hand for post-show Q&a to help talk through select scenes and prepare viewers for what’s coming up next.
“We do want it to be super intense,” Kay said from the stage.
“Episode 2 is just intense, intense, intense, intense,” Down said. “Episode 3 they go to Switzerland [and take a little break], and then it’s just incredibly intense again.

In building the world of Netflix’s “Ripley,” production designer David Gropman needed to incorporate grand Italian train stations and works of art from the early 1960s.
The series, shot in black and white, is based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” about a con artist named Tom Ripley (Andrew Scott), who befriends a wealthy shipping heir, Dickie Greenleaf, played by Johnny Flynn.
Gropman began his plunge into designing the look of the show by studying photography books with images of the time and place. “Neo Realismo: The New Image in Italy 1932-1960” was his style bible.

Over the course of The Good Wife and The Good Fight, viewers saw Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) the lawyer. Now, on her own show, Elsbeth, she’s solving crimes alongside the NYPD; at first, she was ostensibly there as part of a consent decree while secretly investigating Captain Wagner (Wendell Pierce) for possibly corruption, but now, with that case closed (he’s innocent) and everything out in the open, she has an official office at the precinct. But there was a storyline discussed that would’ve brought Elsbeth back into a courtroom. “At one point, we talked about there being a murder and Wagner being arrested for it, and Elsbeth having defending him at the beginning of season 2,” showrunner Jonathan Tolins told TV Insider. For a long time the place for up-and-coming comics to get a real chance at breaking into the public’s consciousness was a five-minute stand-up feature on a late-night show.
An entire generation of the biggest-name comics—Letterman, Leno, Crystal, Seinfeld, Shandling, Pryor, Williams, DeGeneres—recognized that a shot in front of the national audience drawn nightly to Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show was, in success, a golden ticket to a celebrated career.
Is that still true?
The answer is more complicated than it used to be because comics now have the opportunity to build a following solely on social media, doing sets on You Tube or Tik Tok, etc.
And younger comics, much more raised on the attraction of those social media sites, often look to score there rather than on TV, because many contemporary comedy clubs now book more often based on number of followers than a single hot set on late night.

While Asher spends the season concerned he’s been cursed by a tenant’s daughter (Hikmah Warsame), and the series composer John Medeski’s score more than hints at the cosmic, there was nothing that explains or prepares the audience for the surreal, seemingly-out-nowhere 40 minutes that concludes the season.

When Loki debuted in 2021, fans were introduced to Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), the variant whose exploits lead the God of Mischief (Tom Hiddleston) deeper into the depths of the Time Variance Authority (Tva) and the conspiracy behind its ruler. As Season 1 unfolded, Sylvie sought to unleash free will, eliminating the forces that tear variants away from their timelines and loved ones as she had been when she was a child. When viewers pick back up with Sylvie in Season 2, she’s doing her best to move on, but even time and a new life set in 1980s Oklahoma isn’t enough to help her escape the past. When Loki and Mobius (Owen Wilson) come crashing back into her life, Sylvie finds herself compelled to help them solve the Tva’s meltdown, which was seemingly sparked by her killing of He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) in Season 1. Ultimately, by the end,...

Belt-tightening and cost-cutting continues across Hollywood as the Peak TV era has come to a close, and another legacy TV brand is being shuttered as a result.
Sony Television is shutting down its TriStar Television banner, which recently has been responsible for series like “Lucky Hank” (AMC), “The Afterparty” (Apple TV+), “On Becoming a God in Central Florida” (Showtime). In its heyday, TriStar TV produced and distributed “The Nanny,” “Mad About You,” and many more series.
A source says the decision is part of a larger shift around Sony Pictures Television’s boutique labels, not unlike the shuttering of the Gemstone brand several years ago, and that the hope is to weave all of TriStar’s values and goals into the bigger studio.
As THR first reported, TriStar TV’s active productions will be absorbed into the larger Sony Television operation, and the two executives in charge at TriStar, executive...

Laura Karpman brought choral sounds into Season 2 of “What If…?” while Natalie Holt re-established the “Loki” theme for the series’ second season. The Newton Brothers entered the Marvel universe by scoring “X-Men ’97,” and Kris Bowers dives into “Secret Invasion.” These are among the composers of Marvel
TV shows vying for Emmy consideration.
Despite telling different stories, each composer worked to bring a score that felt big, epic and exciting — exactly what fans and audiences expect from a Marvel TV show.
Holt knew Season 2 of “Loki” would be darker and that the titular character (Tom Hiddleston) ascending to the throne and becoming a brand-new god.

As a child of the 1980s, I thought I knew pretty much everything I needed to know about Wham!, just as I thought I had a pretty good handle on the behind the scenes of the late-night all-star recording of “We Are the World.” But maybe that’s why I enjoyed the docs “Wham!” and “The Greatest Night in Pop” so much — a mix of the familiar with those moments of surprise.
In the case of “Wham!,” it’s how Andrew Ridgeley managed to be so gracious as his buddy George Michael went on to a massively successful solo career.

Et tu, Dr. Sullivan? The fifth episode of Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, now streaming on Max, confirms the girls’ suspicions about their smooth-talking therapist — one that bumps her to the top of their suspect list.
Following last week’s bombshell that Dr. Sullivan treated Rose Waters, it was also revealed that the good (or not-so-good) doc has been keeping detailed records of her sessions with the girls. Annabeth Gish’s character is apparently writing a book about adolescent survivors of traumatic events, for which she’s also using information she acquired while treating the original Liars back in the day.

In 2021, viewers were introduced to Alaqua Cox in her role as Maya Lopez through the Disney+ original series Hawkeye, but they really got to see her shine at the start of 2024 with the debut of her series, Echo, which shifted to focus to her titular character and the Indigenous community she was born from. “I went from a small supporting role [to becoming] number one on the call sheets,” the actress shares with TV Insider. “So that meant, of course, more work hours. So that was a big difference.” But for Cox, having a primarily Indigenous crew in front of and behind the camera also made a difference. “They were amazing to work with because when you’re with Indigenous people, it felt like home… you just feel the vibes and they understand each other. The inside jokes between the Indigenous people… our community has our own little jokes and whatnot, so...

Depending on how Russian your sense of humor is, Anton Chekhov’s “The Cherry Orchard” could be classified as either the darkest of comedies or a tragedy that sometimes manages to be mildly humorous. The play follows a past-their-prime family of Russian aristocrats who are forced to sell their eponymous orchard, which they spent most of their lives ignoring and neglecting. But once it’s time to actually part ways, they become overwhelmed by morose nostalgia as they struggle to let go of something that they assumed would always be there. It’s both a brilliant satire of wealth-induced decadence and a somber exploration of how humans struggle to say goodbye at the ends of their eras.
So it’s fitting that, whether she knows it or not, Lillian Hall’s (Jessica Lange) upcoming turn as Madame Lyubov Andreievna Ranevskaya in “The Cherry Orchard” will be her final performance. Michael Cristofer...

Jimmy Kimmel has finally scored a meeting with the Vice President.
VP Kamala Harris is now scheduled to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, June 4.
She was initially slated to guest on Kimmel’s April 16th episode, but postponed the appearance days after it was announced, cutting her Los Angeles trip short for an undisclosed reason.
At the time, insiders said her interview would be rescheduled for a later date. (Harris’ next talk show appearance wound up being The Kelly Clarkson Show on April 29.)
Her appearance will come less than a week after yesterday’s conviction of former President Donald Trump on 34 felony charges related to hush money payments made to Stormy Daniels. Last night, Kimmel had the distinction of being the only late-night host not on vacation the day the news broke.
Harris last appeared on a late-night show in March 2023 when she guested on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Saturday Night Live won’t be in the demo itself when it premieres its 50th season in September, but when it comes to viewers 18-49, the NBC sketch show is still tops.
With the final numbers now in for the 2023-24 broadcast season, SNL is officially the season’s top rated entertainment series across broadcast and cable TV among viewers 18-49. For the fifth year running, it’s also TV’s highest-rated comedy series in the demo.
The good news for Lorne Michaels and team doesn’t end there. While most shows saw year-over-year ratings declines as younger audiences continue to migrate online, the 2023-24 season was an up year for SNL, with the show averaging 7.2 million viewers weekly, up 3% from last season.
