DESSICATOR
Extreme weather conditions lash the plateau and mould the landscape into an abstract beauty that goes beyond its own geological context. Here nature rules. The few people who manage to live on this part of the Bolivian altiplano try to carve out a meagre subsistence as farmers or miners. But the arid climate, volcanic activity, the relentless sun and ceaseless winds destroy what people have built.
The film takes the spectator on a walking tour on the altiplano. But it does not use a portrayed person to involve the spectator. Instead, it is the soundtrack that identifies with an invisible, virtual traveler and, as such, confronts us directly with the destructive forces of an overwhelming nature and the struggle of tough people. The two screens (split screen) interact with each other, thus providing dense visual information that together with the sound submerges the spectator in the doomed relationship of man and nature.
