It had the promise of being so much more
I am a Tobe Hopper fan but I must say this was not good at all. It started out well and just went down hill (I was actually bored not even mid way through the movie). The computer graphics were just laughable. I think this was the main factor which lowered the quality of the movie. The movie also ends in such a weird way with no closure (why did everyone come back to life again when seconds ago we saw them disintegrate when touched by the salt?!).Plus I was expecting Bobby Fowler to be so much scarier, I was very disappointed when I finally got to see him (kinda goofy looking rather than terrifying). The movies saving grace was the creepy location, if you look at the extras on the DVD they explain how it was really an abandoned house in California and how the film makers found actual bones in the basement. They also claimed to had scene images of a woman in the window while filming. The actors were also quite good, but not enough to save the film from itself. Oh Tobe, you biffed it on this one, better luck next time.
Unfortunately and with all due respect I would not bother renting this film....check out the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Poltergist instead , those did succeed in scaring the life out of me.
