Excellent film of isolation, sibling rivalry, jealousy, and crazy cruel madness!
Finally after all these years watched this classic 1962 picture "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?", and I must say that it was a thrilling and chilling horror type spin take on rivalry and jealousy, showing the madness of a crazy mind! And the film works so well due to the fact of the performances of two legends Joan Crawford and Bette Davis who's chemistry rolls so well it's like you can feel the drama and hard feelings not just between the characters, but it's in real life the two seem to be at each other! The tale involves the story of Baby Jane(Bette Davis) a child vaudeville success act who's stubborn and selfish and later on as her star fades her older sister Blanche(Joan Crawford)becomes a better and well known actress. Only a tragic fate takes place Blanche is put in a wheelchair as a paraplegic did Jane do it? Now Jane has to care for Blanche at their old style Hollywood house, yet the treatment involves Blanche being locked upstairs in a room all day, and as Jane serves her meals on a tray they often have dead birds on the dish! The cruel and mean torments from Jane only continue as Blanche becomes a damsel in distress as she's tied up in bed and even has her mouth taped with duct tape so she can't talk! Now you talk about a sibling rivalry at it's worst! Jane is one crazy mind loss woman who's taken revenge and jealousy to new heights! Overall excellent film of madness, isolation, jealousy, rivalry and just overall crazy with suspense and a feel good horror film for 1962 a film that's a classic for it's rogue take and go against the grain way and the performance of legends Crawford and Davis help stamp the mark on this classic.
Big Little Lies (2017)
Envy with madness and it shows that proper adults have anguish with secrets.
"HBO's" "Big Little Lies" is without a doubt a series of drama that's intended for mature audiences. The series shows the lives and inner workings of four California ladies who live in a on the coast ocean city and each are elegant and proper and snob like with their own little click. Yet each have their problems of relationships, family, raising kids, and sex and all are connected to madness and dirty little secrets. It's kind of like "Desperate Housewives" meets "Shameless". Madeline(Reese Witherspoon)is a divorced married again mother with children who has relationship problems and she likes to stir up gossip in the town. Celeste(Nicole Kidman)is an elegant educated lady who's pain comes from her wild and crazy sex encounters with her husband. Now enter the new girl in town single mom Jane(Shailene Woodley)who has a tortured past and plus her little boy just doesn't fit in at school. And Renata(Laura Dern)who's the wicked witch of the west who keeps trouble cooked up in town, yet thru it all secrets and dark past connects all of these elegant and socialite ladies together. "Big Little Lies" is one serious adult series to watch.
A wonderful take on the real life feud between two legends that's moved along with envy, sexism, and the fact of aging.
"FX" and director Ryan Murphy has done it again as a real life drama has been brought to the screen and it brings light on the issue all while having drama, black heart comedy, and envy with age and sexism closing everything up! Many film fans don't know a lot about Joan Crawford and Bette Davis, only some remember their 1962 classic suspense horror film "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane" and the tales and stories written of the on screen drama and fights that went with the picture, well this series "Feud" captures those hot and wicked moments just fine. Both actresses Bette Davis(Susan Sarandon)and Joan Crawford(Jessica Lange)are on the downside of their famous and glory type careers, so both try to give it a go at some work for an old journey type director. As the film they will do together will be "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane" soon and slowly the ego and tempers start to flare between the two divas the two become bitter rivals on and off set! The scenes are memorable and the series shows the personal struggles the duo faced in life with family and both appear to be tortured souls inside. The chemistry between Jessica and Susan is in top notch form making this one series to watch to be entertained and informed about two legends.
Well made movie about how tragedy is brought about when life and career problems intersect.
"Christine" is one of those movies that you watch as it feels real(as it's based on real life events)and you feel sorrow and pain of the main central character named Christine Chubbuck(well acted by Rebecca Hall)as you can see one by one her whole life with people and her job life is spinning out of control. Set in mid 1970's Florida in Sarasota, Christine Chubbuck is a small town news reporter and anchor who wants like everyone else to strike it big getting a break to a big market, yet her passion is wanting to report on stories of social justice like women issues, and health matters, yet the station's boss named Michael(Tracy Letts)butts heads with her as he wants stories that are breaking with juicier details that involve crime, murder, and scandal as those are what he feels are ratings winners.
Also Christine's home life is a mess as she doesn't get along with her mother who's became a pot smoker and this young woman doesn't score as she claims to be a virgin and a little bit of hope is found when she makes friends with on air co-worker George(Michael C. Hall). Yet love and job success is tough to find and the dark reality of loss and grief starts to set in on her all leading to a shock on air a turn that's a tragedy. Overall well done film that's a showcase of how one's life can slip away when life, love, and job problems combine together as they become to much for one lady who was destined for bigger things.
Showing what it's like to be down in the dumps with life and love, while struggling to be funny and get on stage!
Been watching this new HBO series called "Crashing" and I must say that it is funny and crazy with a poor guy who simply can't have anything to go his way, he can't get no breaks! It's the tale of a want to be New York comic who drives a rattle trap car named Pete(Pete Holmes)who finds it a struggle to get on stage as all he can do is pay for open mic night, then his school teacher wife Jess(Lauren Lapkus)leaves because Pete just can't spice up the sex life as he's just not aggressive or a freak in bed! So now the struggle is on the road from club to club, yet Pete is helped along the way by some other comedians(watch for appearances from Artie Lange, T.J. Miller, and Sarah Silverman). Overall good funny series that's a fun watch as you root for an underdog guy like Pete who wants to become a great comic. As sometimes you have to crash and burn like Pete before you have success.
A suspense thrill of twist and turns that questions trust, it's a double cross fueled by hot erotic passion and unexpected emotions.
I for one from time to time check out the Asian cinema mostly the Korean and Japanese works, however this was my first go around with director Park Chan-Wook. And I must say that with this work "The Handmaiden" it's an in depth work a drama that's split into chapters, and it's a film that takes twists and turns that you don't see coming. It proves that with lust, and hot unexpected erotic passion that leads to emotions that new life and love is possible for two ladies.
Set in 1930's Korea a young woman Sook-Hee(Tae-Ri Kim)is hired to be a new handmaiden for Lady Hideko(Min-Hee Kim)who's a Japanese heiress who's lives on an estate by the country and the palace is a castle spread like with many books to read and much to learn like the arts which involve hand painting. However it's a secret plot that Sook-Hee has with a con man known as the count and that is to defraud Hideko of her large inheritance.
Thru it all the film has visions of doubt, trust, and the elements of love and hot erotic passion is taken into new heights as the emotions brought out with Lady Hideko and Sook-Hee twist this plot and little cat and mouse game for a spin and turn that you and even the count didn't see coming. "The Handmaiden" is one powerful tale of greed, lust, sex, and hierarchy proving that unexpected emotions take over and win in the end.
Café Society (2016)
A movie of living one's dreams in a classic old school way with love and life and finding one's self!
I most of the time check out the movies of Woody Allen and I must say that most of them entertain and yes they are somewhat of a fairy tale type mostly paying tribute to places, and people and the past. Well with this entry "Cafe Society" it captures all of those themes so well as set in 1930's Hollywood this film is a journey a tale of romance and learning about people, love, and life. Bronx born Bobby(Jesse Eisenberg)travels to Hollywood to visit his uncle(Steve Carell)and along the way he falls in love with a young girl(Kristen Stewart)yet still Bobby is swept up in the vibrant world of night life of clubs, drinks, society, and beautiful women and the people of elegant and high class society life(also good turns are given from Blake Lively and Parker Posey). Still thru it all Bob's dreams have become to stand as a romantic test that will not die. Overall not the greatest still "Cafe Society" is a film to check out for it's classic dream tale of love and life in high society "Hollywood".
A satire and spin of lust, desperation, and escape.
Finally saw one of the films of Pedro Almodovar it this work which was rightfully called "Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!" As it's a good little take and spin on getting happiness and returning to it after being lonely and put away like the movies central character Ricky. Anyway Antonio Banderas is Ricky a former prisoner and put away mental patient who once had a one night stand with Marina(Victoria Abril)a now sexy porn movie star. As being put away for many years Ricky has developed an unhealthy obsession for Marina as he wants as soon as he gets out to hook back up with her and marry her! So upon release Ricky takes Marina hostage almost like a kidnap victim a damsel in distress, the scenes are funny and dark with Marina being tied up and having her mouth taped with duct tape all while resting in bed! This all leads to a crazy romance and once again some very hot and passionate steam like sex! All of this now leads to escape for both. Overall not everyone's cup of tea still this picture is provocative and a hot twisted take on love and obsession, so if that kind of thing is your poison taste then give this work a watch.
Blow Out (1981)
Well done suspense thriller of scandal, cover up and deception!
Finally saw this 1981 art house suspense thriller from the well known legend Brian De Palma and I must say that "Blow Out" is really one well done suspense thrill like movie of trust that's blended well with issues of action, murder, and media issues! Filmed in Philadelphia, PA(if you've been there you will notice the 30th street train station and center city)"Blow Out" is the tale of a political cover up of murder, all of it starts when Jack(John Travolta)who's a B list movie sound mixer and editor one night happens to record evidence of a plot actually it turns out to be the murder of a governor and upcoming presidential candidate! Thru it all nothing or no one is who they seem or appear to be enter Sally(the sexy Nancy Allen)the lady who was inside the governor's car the night the tire was shot at and crashed in the water below the bridge, as it turns out little lady Sally was the candidate's mistress. Now talk about a web of corruption, it's now a cat and mouse game of sex, lies, and videotape which the dirty media will questions and even erase from Jack's collection in a scandal of cover up drama. And John Lithgow is A okay as Burke the film's evil never see him coming villain. Now need I say more if you haven't I say check out this art house suspense classic as it has many themes and plots of entertainment and enjoyment.
Married with Secrets (2016)
Good series of erotic and sexy lies, hot steamy affairs that breaks up marriages!
I love watching the crime series on ID Discovery as most all of the cases are true and they are acted out again with recreations. And each series covers a different style and type of crime theme, here with this new series it's focus is on affairs and crimes of lust and hot passion! Rightfully it's called "Married with Secrets" and it shows many cases of adultery and married affairs that have bad endings often leading to crimes like murder from jealous rage all becoming crimes of passion. Many of us have known in life people who play around and have affairs often with bad endings as many co workers cheat at work with sex for promotion, yet it destroys moral and worker trust. This series is a showcase for those cases and many cases involve high profile society members like doctor's or business guys cheating on the wife with high priced escort call girls who wear those sexy colored bras! Overall well done series that shows lust, desire, and sex with secrets cause the downfall of marriage and often it ends in crime or cold cases of murder.
