Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
You ask for too much if you couldn't enjoy this
Having grown up in the 90's Jurassic Park was a big part of my life. I have enjoyed the movies for years. This newest movie is fantastic. I loved it, as did the five other people I went with. It was fun to see all the separate stories come together, and seeing old favorites was exciting. It was all really well done...acting, effects, music, writing, the action, the humor. If you can't enjoy a movie like this, then you want too much.
Gone are the days when people can just go to a movie and enjoy it as it is, and not expect it to change their entire life. Movies are meant to be enjoyed, they are meant to take you away for a short time. When did it stop being like that? If you want to be shocked, and scared, and changed...watch the freakin news.
Dolittle (2020)
Visually Lovely and Fun Story
I worry about people who can't just like movies without expecting ....the saying, "everyone is a critic," is correct these days. We watched this as a family and loved it. It had a really interesting story that was different from all the Dolittles before. And it had an adventurous feeling like the book. My four year old watched this happily and understood what was going on. This was a visually stunning movie and the costumes and design of the animals are spot on, and so beautifully done. I really enjoyed RDJ...and Michael Sheen was so weirdly great. If you can't enjoy this...then I fear for you.
Go waste your brain cells on some of the Netflix fodder instead. SHEESH!
Dumbo (2019)
I'm not too GROWN UP to love this movie!
Was this movie PERFECT? No. But...it was very enjoyable.
I'm confused as to what other people are needing...
Great actors? This has that. An interesting story? Got it. Stunning visuals? Check. Drama? Sad moments? Happy moments? Nostalgia? Fantastic score? Elements from the original? A warm fuzzy ending? PINK ELEPHANTS?!! (It has all those things).
In this day of opinions and people depending on screens to LIVE...I think we've forgotten the magic of the ORIGINAL screen. What happened to just going to a movie, and enjoying it for what it is? What is so EXCITING about your life that you find this boring? Umm there are a couple circuses and a freaking flying elephant in this movie!! To me, that's interesting enough.
And the sweet sweet storyline between Dumbo and Mrs. Jumbo. Perhaps only the moms out there can relate...but there is NOTHING like the bond between a mama and her baby, and I loved that the story had a great deal of that to offer.
I love Tim Burton, and I think he did a really wonderful job with this movie.
I dare you to go see it and leave your judgment in the car.
The Grinch (2018)
To Kindness and Love! The Things we Need Most!
I LOVE this movie. In fact, I would go so far as to say: this is my favorite version of the Grinch. (This has caused controversy in my family). I love the book, and of course NOTHING can beat Boris Karloff's narration in the original cartoon....Jim Carrey's version is fine, but has always felt "ehhhh" to me. But this newest version was such a pleasant surprise! I laughed so so hard, just as hard as my daughter. This movie is also just visually stunning...the animation is great, and the details are so fun. I love Christmas, and this just gave me all the Christmastime warm fuzzys.
I can't say enough about the story, the original message of the Grinch is not lost at all, and I love how bits were added to it. It is not a bad thing that they humanized- or rather WHOMANIZED- the Grinch character. He was much more likable and it teaches a valuable lesson. That EVERYONE needs love...not just nice people. But even Grinches. That someone who was hurt long ago will lash out in ways even they don't understand, but in reality they just need a friendly hand. To "close their eyes and listen with their heart." In a world where we all judge unfairly, and basically love to gripe about anything...it's a nice reminder that there is no such thing as too much kindness. I think this particular world we're living in NEEDED this version of the Grinch story.
The only gripe I would have is some of the music. The Grinch song, "you're a mean one, Mr. Grinch..." is fairly horrible. Like...if you're just going to slaughter a song, perhaps leave it out. However, I LOVE Danny Elfman's score...so beautiful.
Give this movie a chance...if you are too caught up in comparing it to the movies that precede it, then OF COURSE you will take issue. Watch it with fresh eyes.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)
In an Age Where Everyone is a Professional Critic...Ignore Them!
I never write reviews, but all the negitivity about this movie bothers me greatly. I truly LOVED this movie. I think the complaints are mostly just people going in with too many expectations. Or just a strange need to express only bad things in a world already riddled with that.
I've been a long-time fan of the Harry Potter series and I am loving Fantastic Beasts as well. Perhaps I'm easy to please? Simple-minded? Too blown away by fantastic effects, beautiful scenery, and great actors? These new stories will not ALWAYS match up neatly with HP, there will be small holes. Yes, there were parts where the film moved quickly past something that should have been given more consideration, yes there were a lot of new introductions; lots of information. Why is that such a big deal? And speaking strictly to Potterheads, why can't we just be grateful that we get to continue to delve into this most amazing world?
My advice? If you have an issue with the writing, and you are convinced you can do better, then you write your own best-selling series and then you'll surely show JK! Whatever happened to just taking something, (in this case, a film), and enjoying it for what it is? Just sitting in a theater, gazing up at that big screen, and ENJOYING a movie...just because. Why is that so hard? Why have we taken it upon ourselves to pass judgment on every. single. stupid. thing.
Friends, there ARE bad movies out there. This is not one of them.
It was full of magic, new creatures; the laughter and the action that always comes with the Wizarding World. My heart just soared when we were shown the exterior view of Hogwarts, and John William's original composition played. It brought me back to being 11, and having butterflies as I watched the Sorcerer's Stone for the first time.
Crimes of Grindelwald is fantastic. Fantastic performances, fantastic score, fantastic film.
