To Be Or Not To Be
10 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
That's the movie it is copied from. An extremely poor copy at that. It is copied scene by scene, word for word, action for action. Completely mindless transposition a complete waste of time.

Rahul Bose is completely out of his depth in this slapstick piece, he's more at home in more mature comedy. Mallika Sherawat doesn't have much to do as usual, she's hired only to show her skin, beyond that she can do little.

Paresh Rawal tries his best, after all he's the main role in this photocopy. Kay Kay tries out a bizarre gazhal singer's role, who is actually a spy. without any significant success.

Actually the dialogues are very weak and the screenplay is weaker still. Kay Kay tries necking with Mallika Sherawat, but the who sequence looks so artificial, one can hardly bear to sit through it.

Try it with Saridon.

Copying Streak
4 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is copied from the Hollywood production BLUE STREAK. I must say, it is a poor reproduction. The hero plays his part well but the introduction of two girls does hurt the film.

Om Puri is excellent as the suspecting cop as is Paresh Rawal as the unsuspecting commissioner. Shekhar Suman is useless as the friend of the hero. Actually this part has been "INSPIRED" from the legendary GolMaal.

Suman plays the hero's mother to the cops in order to protect him. The hero also invents a twin brother, a la GolMaal. But again this hardly puts any extra laughs.

Overall the movie is unbearable and I haven't been able to sit through it twice. I really still don't know how it ends. But it too must have been copied from somewhere.

Going to Switzerland?
12 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This is a copy of the 1948 Doris Day classic, Romance on the High Seas.

The story line is more or less same but is contemporary. Govinda plays a sharp witted fellow who replaces the husband on the trip. While Rani plays the college friend of the wife who does her the same favour. They ostensibly try to catch each other out while the actual husband and wife tries to trip each other in Bombay.

On the trip, Govinda mistakes another girl for Sanjiv's wife and spies on her while falling in love with the ravishing Rani.

Lever plays a dual role of father and son both lawyers specialising in divorce proceedings. They are pitted against each other for the warring couple.

It is a poor attempt at copying the original classics and the songs are quite appalling. The comedy is slap-stick and will not make one laugh too much.

Run of the mill - You can bet your life its not.

Random Harvest.

This is the name that comes to mind when we watch this movie. This one is 'inspired' by the Ronald Colman and Greer Garson classic. But that is not all, as a matter of fact its only the beginning.

In fact, the story has been Indianised to such an extent that at times it will give you a feeling that the reverse might also be true. Uttam Kumar, the epitome of the Bengali male and the ever beautiful and graceful Suchitra Sen are the best on screen couple to have graced the silver screen in India.

The first time I watched this movie was with my Grandmother. Uttam Kumar represents the icon of her generation she took me to this one and I've been struck by Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen ever since. The songs can transport you to a distant land where everything is perfect and happiness, never ending.

Be careful, this movie is a very captivating one and one remains under its spell for a long long time.

I've given a vote of 9 out of 10, because its copied, otherwise it probably deserves more than 10.

A copy with a serious overtone.
11 July 2006
This is a copy of the movie Meet John Doe by director Frank Capra. Although the original is satirical or humorous, this film is serious. Indeed it brings out the present day mess that is called India. The character of Azad is the quintessential voice of our inner self. Well made movie and highly watchable, but a copy nonetheless.

Amitabh Bachchan gives a stellar performance as Azaad, but being in his 'barren' zone of movies, this one bombed spectacularly in the box office. Although a serious movie, it is still watchable with the family because unlike most of his movies of that period, this one lacks violence.
