The Fourth Kind (2009)
a really good movie, but...
I thought this was a really good movie. Before i saw it, i came into IMDb intending to read the comments of this movie, to get an idea of what it was like. The first one was along the lines of: don't research it, just watch it.
So i stopped reading, and did.
I started watching it just before i was going to bed, at 1:30am, just to get a quick preview, because i intended to watch it the next day. I was instantly interested, and by 3:15 i was terrified, but then i could not sleep at all, and i had to find out more about this movie. So here i am writing at 5 am, after finding out what i needed to know, and what i found out was disappointing.
I would have given this movie a 10 because it was excellent, and i have never been so terrified by a movie in such a long time, but i must say i am a little upset that the whole thing was an elaborate lie.
I was also upset that Mila Jovovich, who i've always thought to be such a beautiful and admirable actress, used her name and word to state this movie is based on the truth. I know she is an actress, and this was the movie's ploy, but if you are going to use your real name, you're speaking not as an actress but yourself. Our word is very important in life, and if it's not speaking the truth, then what is it worth? A boy who cried wolf found out the answer to that one day, and they wrote a story about him.
If she had burst out laughing after the credits had finished rolling, being all cool, pointing to the audience, giving a wink and saying "Gotcha!", i would have given this a 10. But because there was no disclaimer or anything of the sort, i felt the movie left me hanging to research and figure out what to make of this whole mess. But i was disappointed because it was a lie. anyway 5:30, i'm going to bed, now i can sleep, but i am going to pay tomorrow :D
Funny People (2009)
who writes this stuff?
UGH the media/entertainment is getting saturated with this perverted trash, acting like its normal, why won't someone do anything about this? How many comedians does it take to get a single laugh from someone? Apparently more than the cast of this whole movie.
This is a great example of dumbed down comedy - if you thought it was funny, you're probably stupid.
Remember that boy/girl in grade primary who said 'penis' for the first time, and everyone in the class laughed? Well this is that movie, except the girl/boy is a 20-30something, and they aren't funny.
Who writes this stuff? Surely 90% of the world's population could write better - its not even worth paying for, what a load of baloney! Is it supposed to make people feel better about paying for this by having some guy wear a shirt that asks 'who writes this stuff'? If you want to see it, just download it or at least don't pay anything to watch it, because the chances are you'll regret it.
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009)
Poor excuse for a movie.
Well i watched this movie last night. And i think i'm developing a bit of esp, because this junk is getting easier to spot as it appears on the horizon. For example, when i first heard of this movie i though "oh no, another America movie, by some American company, trying to make as much money as they can, over-using cgi, and totally destroying a good thing, that being the original G.I. Joe cartoon".
After watching the film that followed the usual modern day formula for a story: -BEGINNING- hype some silly problem (the missiles, you might have heard) -MIDDLE- send in captain CGI to save the day, and -END- advertise for the next installation of the film. It leaves nothing left to say except that my initial thought was right, oh, and please don't waste your time making G.I. Joe 2.
what an excellent movie..
Although this movie is from 1951, not many movies made today can hold a candle to this one. It's a great story with great camera play, and great suspense and thrills as well. If you haven't seen it yet, please do so shortly, but nothing i write here can do it true justice.
I was a star wars fanatic, and I couldn't stop talking about the matrix either, oh and by the way.. if you know of a door to narnia or middle-earth, i'd be interested in hearing more ha ha ha! What I'm saying is that these stories brought a refreshing realm of higher understanding into thought. The Day The Earth Stood Still is a story that does this as well.
It's set on Earth and in a city. The main character has a message, and is an excellent role model, polite and patient, kind and wise. However, he is being hampered by the fear and prejudices of man. So instead, he devises his own way to deliver a message. The supporting characters who know him try to help him in his task.
It's an excellent message, and you'll have to see what for yourself, but you can watch assured that The Day the Earth Stood Still is a very excellent movie!
The Simpsons Movie (2007)
This really is terrible
My buddy and i watched this movie. I'm not a fan of the Simpsons, and i have only watched about 6-7 full shows. But if anything is for sure, this movie is utterly terrible. It's sexist, profane, foolish, and a downright waste of time.
One part that stuck out, aside from the cartoon pee-pee, was a TV channel scroll advertisement, which popped up on the bottom of the screen, that made it quite clear of how they advertise in movies now. I assume it was made to get someone laughing, and if someone was laughing at that, it's kind of a shame. Because i imagine that's what the higher ups in the American ideal were trying to do, as they try to drop the blindfold of their deluded ways over the American people. If anyone argues.. someone could say "Well that's normal!" or "but they were just stating the truth!" or some other deluded line except for, "This means we're in trouble!"..
Anyhow the point i decided to not watch this movie anymore was shortly after Mr and Mrs Simpson were going to go to bed together, all these fuzzy little creatures burst in the door of the cabin and tried to make it all love-like. I turned to my friend and and remarked "this is the most ridiculous thing i have ever seen". And no i wasn't laughing one single bit. Needless to say it just kept getting stupider and stupider after that.
The lame jokes, which in fact numbered in the thousands if not hundreds, just became too much to bear. It was almost like the director was trying to put every joke possible into this movie, and not caring if only a few succeeded.
I am glad i downloaded this movie, i would not recommend this movie to anyone at all, least of all a child. This is an adult film, made for those who love the American way and all the foolishness associated with it, who love the gossip and rumor mills and who think this junk can bring positive political change. If that's not you, don't watch it.
In fact, i suggest to anyone who wants to watch this movie, join in with what young Mr. Simpson and i did.... and download this movie - for free.
The New World (2005)
This would have been a totally awesome movie if the year was 1913, and they showed it in full color - it would have stood as the movie to beat for decades! But it's not. I saw this movie and i thought it was alright at the start, but it was hard to understand the dialouge and there was a lot of voice overs too, which didn't help too much. I don't know the real story of Pochoantas, and i guess if i did the movie would have made more sense. Anyway after watching about 1h 30m of this movie i got really bored and i started skipping a little bit ahead, and as it went on i started skipping a bit more ahead with increasing intervals until the movie was over. I compressed the last hour into about 20 minutes, and got most of the idea. But i tell you if this was a movie i went to see in the theater, i would have walked out for sure.
This is like the first movie i've ever watched that i actually didn't want to watch anymore. I'm glad downloaded it instead and didn't pay to watch this movie. Hollywood films have been sucking a lot lately, which is why so many people are downloading flicks instead - they're tired of being ripped off! People want to have a good time in the theater, not pay 10 bucks to nap in an uncomfortable char, or get utterly bored to death. I'll give this movie another chance if they show it on cable or if I find the DVD out on the street. Hopefully it might be a better with the subtitles, and the ability to play 2x 3x speed.
Bottom line: wait for cable/DVD.
