What is sci-fi? We'll just let the words defined themselves. It will be films in which the action or drama is based on speculative Science, in other words, the events that happen don't occur because of any Science experiment in a text book. That's pretty wide open. It does separate it from "Fantasy" however, so some "Fantasy" may not be in this list.

This list of classic Westerns excels in credible characters in incredible circumstances, the mark of inspiration. Which inspires you most as the greatest Western ever?

a list of 100 titles
These are obviously the most fascinating and identifiable of the Westerns. My list will differ from most in that I am more interested in characters, especially supporting characters, in which most of this are stick out films, scenery, story, and the premise that a good story is usually "credible characters in incredible circumstances". I'm not including the comedy Westerns, as I will put them on a "comedy" list. Sorry, Saddles and Cat.

I'm sure I'll miss some, and I haven't seen every film ever, but these are truly 40 films that you will find the utmost in iconoclastic style. "Iconoclastic" means the opposite of what some people may think, because it means knocking down "icons" and "myths". It is true "anti hero" and true "anti Hollywood".

These villains are the best because they are so believable. These villains are scariest because they can actually exist, and some are even likable in ways, while some are human monsters. When you see them, you see real people.

More quotes that you're likely to use every day will come from these films than any others, unless of course you are a cult member or fan of a specialized group.

While he is remembered mostly for his tough guy gangster, I think it is his tough guy thinker that really made his classics. There is no doubt that Peter Falk had to model Columbo after some of E.G.'s roles in this vein, and that was a remarkable character.

Bogie is best remembered, and will always be rememberd as the actor who gave us the most three dimensional heroes and villains. Tough guys, but always with some insecurities. Here are what I think will be the 20 films they will still call his elite films, 200 years from now.

Cagney, one of the deserved icons, could make crying look tough. These are what I call his greatest films, and the ones that will stand the test of time 200 years from now

a list of 500 titles
You will notice I get the most pleasure from "credible characters in incredible circumstances", and prefer slapstick syle comedy to dry humor. I'm not as big on special effects as most people. I believe if they're used correctly, they're great. My ratings are based mostly upon characters, writing, directing, editing, scenery, entertainment, logic, coherence, and production elements.

Hard to narrow it down to 10, and 40 is too many. These were "triumphs" for the casting department.

He's been in so many movies, that there must be 20 good ones. After a lot of looking, I found them.

Best and Greatest, same thing. 100 years from now, you've got to figure these are the films Ryan will be noted for, whether he was top billing or not

The best, and the greatest films of an icon. He is best remembered as the man who loved justice, but many of his greatest roles were of men who battled justice within themselves. These 20 films show him in a myriad of characterizations, and will no doubt what will be remembered a hundred years from now.

a list of 10 characters
Mature people like heroes, but the immature love villains. What makes a good "villain"? My list is based on "character". These are people you could believe exist. They are very three dimensional, except for the few "spoof" villains which are making fun of the one dimensional caricatures, and thus meant to be "entertaining".

a list of 40 titles
Some of the greatest film endings are the dynamic ones. Some are the best in the "switch" or "trick" ending department. Some are best in showing characters make revelations. And some are just simply magnificent. Here are, what I consider, the top 40.

a list of 10 titles
Thse are 10 sci fi films you need to see before you meet you maker. They leave you with the feeling you know something about being human. These films stay with you forever. Why? Because they have all the elements needed for classic sci fi (and classic films) 1. Credible people in incredible situations 2. The smallness of life in a vast Universe 3. Interesting "what if" concepts.

How obscure a movie should one look for to put on this list? I drew the line after the comedy version of Casino Royale. I felt that the obscurity should end there, but include this Bond film, as a "water mark", because any any Bond film that wasn't better than this parody, well, that would say it all.

a list of 100 titles
What makes a great film? Obviously, most people are fascinated the most by "credible characters in incredible circumstances". That especially holds true for great sci fi. It defines great sci fi. Here are what I humbly call the 100 greates sci fi films ever. I've seen most sci fi films. Sorry, but I haven't seen Avatar. Some are borderline. I put the LOTR trilogy under "fantasy" insteaad of sci fi, for example, so the hobbit movies just make another list.

a list of 40 titles
There are plenty of poor movies, but some are just low budget. When a movie has big name stars, and an obviously large budget, and still sucks, it qualifies for this list. These movies have nothing going for them. They are depressing, dull, poorly written, illogical, are filled with cliches, and have no entertainment value, social value, or artistic value.

If one could make a perfect movie about the bible, casting completely from the dead, this would be the cast:

Irony. Saying one thing and meaning another. It's a great entertainment device, and in the best cases very realistic. There are more than ten, of course, but just picking from major films made throughout History, these are the ten definitive ones.

10 questions in 10 films that remained a mystery, but I have solved the answers. Since these are mystery questions, only non historical fiction contends.

These are the twenty best male characters. They may not be perfect, but they're as three dimensional and believable as you can find. What makes the best films for most people are believable characters in unbelievable circumstances, or credible characters in incredible circumstances. You can actually believe you live next door to one of these people. I'm limiting this to main characters only. And to narrow the field further, I'm taking the 20 who are also the most interesting of the believable characters. We not only understand them, but we can care about them.

Execution scenes are meant to be dramatic and poignant. Sometimes they are tragic, sometimes sad, sometimes bittersweet. These are the ten greatest execution scenes in film History. If you haven't seen these, you haven't seen brilliant execution.

Everything goes in comedy. There are no rules, just what makes you laugh, and what makes you laugh hardest. After all, this is comedy, and it isn't really harder than dying.

a list of 40 titles
These are the 40 greatest all time war films based on the criteria of characters (their credibility throughout line up, how interesting they are, how three dimensional, and how we can care about them), plot (freshness, credibility, being interesting, risk taking), Entertainment value, directing, story telling, scenery, cinematography, and other factors.

These are the all time Westerns. I'll admit that special effects aren't important in this list. To make the cut for this list, the Westerns had to pass on aspects in this order 1. Characters-A: Credible, three dimensional, non cliche B: that you could care about C: up and down the cast D: interesting 2. Entertainment value 3. Scenery and set, including horses, mountains, costumes, etc 4. Story 5. Directing 6. other aspects. These 40 are the greatest all time Westerns, the ones people want to see
