Shirley (2024)
Lovely film, but missed key points in Chisholms story
I liked the film for what it was. Regina King shines as Shirley Chisholm and the supporting characters were all great.
My big issue with the film is: how do you make a movie about Shirley Chisholm and completely skip over her fight for women's rights and the E. R. A? That was her focus point and a huge part of her campaign.
Alot of black men didn't want to support her BECAUSE she talked so much about women's rights. It's kinda a key point in her story.
And it's completely glossed over. And how do you skip over her iconic moment on stage on the convention? How?
I liked it for what it was. But it missed so much of her ACTUAL story that bothered me too much for it to love it.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
I gave it a chance
I was one of the few people who actually enjoyed the first episode. I really liked Jen and her dynamic with Bruce Banner. I liked all the refrences and it made sense how she got her powers. The CGI was pretty good. Not great, but okay.
But then episode 2 and 3 came along. For some reason, the dialogue became so weird and felt unnatural. Nobody feels real and the comedy feels INCREDIBLY forced. More forced than usual. The CGI is SO BAD. She Hulk feels like she comes out of a bad 2003 video game.
And don't get me started on that post credit scene of episode 3.
All the characters are either really dumb or incredibly annoying. Everyone feels like a comedic-relief. Only Jen feels like a normal character. They even managed to ruin Wong.
I am disappointed.
Arcane: League of Legends (2021)
Outstanding voice acting, outstanding animation and outstanding writing
I went with 0 expectations into the series.
I am mindblown, heartbroken and words cannot express how much of a fan I am of this serie.
And I never even played League of Legends.
This serie has it all. The voice acting is on point, mindblowing animation and amazing writing.
This is a MUST watch!
Halloween Kills (2021)
Strange choices have been made
After a long wait the sequel to Halloween (2018) has arrived and I must say, this is an odd one.
This movie isn't particularly bad. The cinematography is good, the acting is mediocre and Michael Meyers is one hell of a badass.
There are just certain moments in the movie I found unnecessary, dragged out and just strange. Like, what was the purpose of all that?
And the pacing is just really strange and the writing is just really off.
The movie struggles with what tone it wants to have and because of that the movie just isn't good enough. And that's a shame, because it could've been so good.
Let's hope the last installment will be worth it.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
What a surprise!
When you thought the MCU pulled everything out of the closet. This movie has everything. Amazing special effects, good editing, deserved character development and an intriguing plot. This movie is a solid blockbuster and very aesthetically pleasing.
The only bad thing about it was that at some point in the movie, it's enough. The ending felt like it was being dragged out.
This is the best MCU origin story by FAR.
What If...?: What If... T'Challa Became a Star-Lord? (2021)
Surprisingly good!
The pacing is SO much better than the previous episode. The fan service is amazing. And the animation is way better.
The best part about this episode are the character appearances.
What If...?: What If... Captain Carter Were the First Avenger? (2021)
Animation is ON POINT
The animation is incredible. The voice acting is good. But the writing seems a bit rushed. Understandable, but still.
Cruella (2021)
My darling, this movie is brilliant!
When I heard that they we're going to make a live-action movie about Cruella de Vil, I thought: This is going to be a disaster.
The trailers looked good but still not really great.
This movie? Blows every live action (except Cinderella) out of the park! Cruella is brilliantly written, acted and portrayed. All the side characters are memorable and useful. The baroness is amazing and just pure evil. I love it.
The costume designs are the best thing in this movie. They are beautiful, diffrent and are a feast to your eyes.
This movie gives me hope for the future of Disney!
Nomadland (2020)
Beautiful but... boring
Boring is perhaps the biggest insult you can give to a movie. And this movie is just that. Boring. Beautifully filmed and acted. And that's about it. 45 minutes in and I could barely catch up on what was happening. Because it was too fast? No, because it was way too slow.
Perhaps my brain is just too small to understand these films? I don't know.
WandaVision (2021)
Brilliant!
This serie is something special. It's not your regular Marvel content. The first couple of episodes is guessing and theorising and from there it's just a treat from start to finish. The acting is incredible. The writing is terrific and the characters are beautifully and well written.
For all superhero fans, this is a must see!
The Mitchells vs the Machines (2021)
Surprisingly good!
Loved this film. All the jokes landed. Characters nicely written. Olivia Colman's voice acting is hilarious! And the animation is flawless.
This is a must see.
The Crown (2016)
One of the best tv series of all time
This tv serie is about the reign of queen Elizabeth the second and all her challenges. And my god, this tv serie executes everything well. The acting is phenomenal, the cinematography is incredible, the screenplay is fantastic and the story is amazing.
This serie is a MUST WATCH.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
The hype killed my enjoyment
I heard everyone talking about this. Like it was life changing. So what did I do? I started watching it. I stopped at first when I was at episode 5. The characters we're just SO BORING. I didn't care about ANY of them. But after a week I started watching and the last episode saves the serie. The last episode is really great and is one of the best finales I have ever seen in a series. But the journey to the final was just AFWUL.
The costumes are great. Score is good too. But the characters are so bland. So bland and boring.
Is it overrated? Definitely.
Bad? Not at all.
Grown Ups (2010)
No it isn't a good movie, but it is fun
The cast has alot of fun and the jokes are hilarious (most of the time)
That's it. Don't expect alot from this movie. It deserves all the razzie awards it got.
But if you want a good time with your friends? This is the best movie
Soul (2020)
Great, but could've been better
Let me first say that the animation is groundbreaking and flawless. Loved the character designs.
The chemistry between Joe and 22 is also really great.
The entire idea of the film is great. The first and second act are also really good. But the ending ruins it for me.
Why does the ending ruin it for me? It would have been so much better if Joe couldn't go back to earth and finally moved to the other side. That would've been way more impactful. He lived his life. He realised that after the concert with Dorothea. But this movie needed a dumb
happy ending as all pixar movies do.
PS: that entire Lisa thing went nowhere and had no pay off.
The Irishman (2019)
It's a good movie, just not for me.
I am not such a big fan of Scorsese, but I was interested in his new netflix-flick: The Irishman. When I saw the reviews flooding in, I immediatly started watching it.
Was it a good movie? Yes.
An oscar winning movie? Not exactly.
This movie has even more characters than Avengers: Infinity war and it's difficult to keep track on them. If you go into the movie without knowing what's it about (like me) goodluck, this movie is going to be a tough one. It has no foundation and it's hard to where it wants to go. It's a 3 hour movie, and with almost no exciting bits it's hard to watch too be honest.
Consensus: The special effects we're amazing and the acting is great. That's about it. I wasn't really invested in the plot and it took me a week to finish the movie. Not a big fan.
Frozen II (2019)
This is what we call the disappointment of the year.
The first one was so amazing, I watched that movie so many times and it will always be my all time favorite animated movie.
This movie is not that. This is a forgettable, lazy movie that is so empty that it's actually just sad. The side-characters are boring and don't get anything to do. The story is even more predictable than the oscars. The climax isn't earned and there are 0 stakes, even the soundtrack is laughable and forgettable.
Consensus: This movie is a boring, lazy written movie that has the typical sequel-curse.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
The best movie of all time.
I watched this movie when I was 11 years old with my mother for the first time. I had no idea what it was about before I watched it and never even heard of it. At the end, it changed the way I looked at movies. This movie taught me so much. I can't even start on how beautiful it is made, how well it is written, the cinematography, the acting, everything is just spot on.
Consensus: See it for yourself. That's all I can say.
Mrs. America (2020)
Phyllis Schlafly is a woman to be reckon with.
Mrs. America perfectly portrays the battle in the 1970's about the equal rights amendement and all the major players that are involved are amazingly casted and played. Especially Cate Blanchett and Sarah Paulson as Alice Macray.
Before I went into this series, I never expected to empathize with Phyllis at the end of the series. I hate to love her and love to hate her. I disagree with her at all fronts, but damn. She can put up a fight!
The women's liberation movement are also well-casted and played by Rose Byrne, Margo Martindale, Elizabeth Banks, Uzo Aduba and Tracey Ulman who all shine in their own way.
Consensus: This serie does have some trouble with keeping true to the story it's trying to tell. Some scenes that happened we're obviously biased and didn't happen. But the serie makes it up by the direction, writing and acting.
Love, Victor (2020)
An all time favorite.
Love, Victor is this serie that alot of people will relate too like myself. The characters have this chemistry that is just undeniably flawless, especially between the character Victor and Benji. I didn't really buy some stuff and some plotlines we're a bit cliché. I also kinda disliked how much focus they put on the straight-couples. I get it, but it felt a bit unnecessary for me. But all characters got this amazing pay-off in the finale that felt earned.
Consensus: If you love high-school rom-com or if you are LGBT (or both) this serie is made for you.
Joker (2019)
Is it great? I don't know.
When I heard everyone saying that this is the film of the year and all the reviews flooding in with 10's, I was quite hyped and excited for this movie. When I walked out of the cinema, I felt hollow and empty.
Before I continue writing, let me say this, This is NOT the film of the year nor is it a real masterpiece. The cinematography is excellent and the acting is incredible, that's just it. The side-characters are bland and overly dramatic. The plot heavily relies on plot-twists and the film is so harsh that it actually falls flat on it's face.
Are there no good points though? Phoenix is phenomenal and the score is great. The cinematography is also incredible but the plot is not that great at all. It even has plot holes and scenes that left me empty.
Film of the year? Nope.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
One of the best comicbook movies out there.
This movie plays with your emotions if you have been keeping track with the MCU. If you haven't, don't watch this movie. This movie isn't for you. But if you have, this movie will blow your mind. It's epic, it's big and a feast to your eyes. It's not one of your typical comicbook movies. It has real stakes and the visuals are stunning. It has flaws of course, like some characters could've been handled better. But I think it's one of the best comicbook movies ever. The visuals, the storytelling, the stakes, the characters, it's just amazing.
Unicorn Store (2017)
Suprisingly good
I had no expectation for this movie. I just saw it an hour ago because I scrolled through netflix. But its very good and a very sweet movie with a very good message beneath the weird plot.
