Jimmy Carr: Natural Born Killer (2024)
Seems like the end of the line or something
I used to love JCs shows, he could make hard jokes but they were just that. Audience participation has always been a thing but not to this level, that Jacob guy should be paid since he was featured in just about a quarter of the show. During the first part of his show he was clearly looking for audience approval, which didn't go very well and was sad to see as some of the silences were long and he didn't go on until he got the response he wanted... or demanded really. During the second half he switched to preaching about "omg women are so amazing" and "consent is super important". Jimmy, I used to watch you to get away from the constant barrage of preaching, now you're doing just that. It all just seemed like trying too hard, but without real effort, with preaching for clout I guess. Too bad, but it is what it is. Things change and I just won't be on the lookout for his material anymore. When I look for comedy I look for laughs and entertainment, not yet another person shouting talking points. I suppose he's just getting ready for retirement or something, so that in a few years he can do the rounds and say "well I advocated for positive things" etc. I don't know. But I do know that I won't see him the same way again after this.
The YouTube Effect (2022)
The documentary effect
While this documentary has good points, it was immediately clear that it does the same as all other documentaries. I watched it fully, to the end, to see if they would flip things around in the second half to show all points of view. But no. They bring up the same people, the same opinions. All one-sided. Yep, sure, I agree that extremism is bad. Right-wing extremism is bad. But why don't they ever mention left wing extremism? As if they aren't present on social media platforms? As if they don't radicalize people? It shows the lack of creativity, honesty, and good faith of the producers. Taking the same old tired approach "that group" of people are bad and are the cause of all bad things. Fifteen minutes into the documentary this was very clear and it disappointed all the way through. They threw Thunderf00t onto a background wall of "right-wing" video producers. A lot of things go to show the lack of knowledge and the lack of research. They were just going by what the (same old) people they reached out to told them and taking their word for it. Due to lack of experience, laziness, political bias, malice or a mix of all of those, you're getting a boring and predictable cookie cutter left wing documentary. Funny thing is that they interview someone who uses the handle "contrapoints". The hint was right there people. CONTRA points. Do some of your own research. Get in an opposing opinion. If you want an honest documentary about social media, this isn't it.
Buck Breaking (2021)
Tariq sure was busy
Tariq sure was busy in May creating all those accounts to give this "documentary" a 10. Haha, all of them, literally all of them, IMDB member since May.
Other than that wth is this thing? A bunch of insecure guys trying to pose? Trying to make themselves look important? Or something? I don't know but it is wonderful comedy though!
If you're looking for a funny movie, give this a try. If you're looking for factual information, stay very far away from this.
The New Mutants (2020)
This was ... unfortunate
This movie felt like it had a lot more potential. As you can see in the trailer they are "trapped" in some sort of bubble but that's never really utilized to maximum effect. Really, I think it's just used to keep the story in one, confined place. On top of that there's a limited cast and therefore only 1 "doctor" in the entire "facility". If it wasn't obvious yet, they kept the costs down.
And that may have worked had the rest of the movie been better. The story has been done before. And that's ok. But unfortunately the story is also weak. I'm not one to give out spoilers but if you do decide to watch this movie you're going to have a lot of "... but that could have been done way sooner". It's also quite predictable.
So, anyway, 2 stars for me. I could go up to 3 stars maybe, but I'm rounding down rather than up to at least combat the fake high score reviews a little. Don't believe them. The movie just isn't that good.
Jungleland (2019)
A decent watch!
Maybe it's because there have been so many poor movies which have been released during the pandemic, I don't know. But I'm giving this an 8 because I think it deserves more than the current 6.4 rating. Maybe a 7,5 would be better, but I can't score half points and the fact that this was a decent watch among the other stuff recently that I feel I can round up.
Some people don't like the ending, I can understand that. But it's a fitting ending. And for this type of movie I could see it coming. Even though the ending is not a surprise it still works. It's an emotional moment and it forces you to imagine the characters' future. And I think that's part of what makes it work.
It's hard to describe it without spoilers :)
The rest of the movie is just a solid story. No big explosion scenes. No car chases. Just a story that moves at a good pace.
If you're thinking about it, stop thinking and watch. I think you'll enjoy it.
The Red Pill (2016)
Good look at the current status of gender politics
I'm going to score this movie a 10 because I believe that how much this movie deserves the attention at this point in time and history.
As for an actual score, as in how good I think the movie is, I would score it an 8.5.
The movie is well made and professionally edited. OK, some slightly smoother camera work and in one case better sound (but they used subtitles to fix this) could have been used. But overall a very good job.
The one thing I would critique this movie on is that Cassie didn't seem to ask many confrontational questions. The speakers were always giving their opinions but I haven't really seen Cassie retort with a difficult question or opposing view. Especially when interviewing the feminist guests.
Other than that I can only say this movie comes at the right time, which the controversy around the movie clearly shows. MRA's do not want to take away from women. They simply want to shed a light on the plight of men who are seen as disposable.
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011)
MI4 is a shame. IMDb should do something about these paid reviews
This movie is a shame. PLease people look for the honest reviews here. Paid reviews have been plaguing IMDb for some time now but this trumps it all ... this movie deserves 3 stars MAX!!! Anything over that is a review by a 5 year old easily impressed child, or a paid review. Count the 10 star reviews here!!! It's incredible?! Who gives this crap 10 stars? Djeez ... Please take my advice and just stay away from this. Don't even watch it on cable unless you need to watch something to kill time with while your overdose kicks in or something. In any other situation this movie is not worth the time. I would give it a 0, or a negative score if IMDb would allow it.
You know what : -27/10. There, that's my honest opinion. Seriously.
Vietnam in HD (2011)
A lot of original footage, drained with American hero-victory-sauce
I'm giving this one a 5 for the footage. It's nice to see so much original footage and that's what I'm always looking for. I admire the people with the cameras in the field. So using their footage means giving them credit for what they did. They shot with cameras, not with guns. Too bad, however, that it's almost all US footage, almost no North VN footage was used.
Other than that, this is yet another very one-sided documentary of the Vietnam war. From the first second to the last everything shouts "look at us heroes, we're so awesome, we did so good". Americans seem to be utterly incapable of objectively reporting on the subject of war. It seems to me that with every documentary on the subject they're doing all they can to cover up the fact that they got their asses kicked. By a much weaker force by the way. Just admit it and move on. Terrible things happened and those are the facts. That's what I want from a documentary, the facts! Not a deep-sounding voice telling me how difficult some General's decision was, how long he had to think about it just to portray him as a good guy. State the facts please, and leave it at that. Don't put the ever-American gloss over it to make it look more than it is.
Conclusion : If you want a 50/50 mix between some Band Of Brothers with some info put in and everything video and audio pointing out they were incredible heroes, than watch this. If you're looking for a good documentary stating the facts and looking at this war from both sides, keep looking, this is not it.
Hoodwinked! (2005)
Wth ...
This movie sucks.
That about sums it up.
I read somewhere over here that this movie is fast paced ... where do you live? Are you Amish?
- the jokes are bad
- the music is bad
- the lyrics in the music are bad
- the music comes at the worst times (music when nothing is actually happening and no music when something 'exciting' is going on)
- the dialogs suck
- the worst 'camera' angles I've seen in years
- the graphics are bad
- whilst in the cinema alone I spotted two major flaws
- you already know they're going for the soundtrack with this movie
- from the second the 'bad' character comes in the movie you know 'who did it'
From that point on, it's only waiting 'til the movie is over, and sigh and be disappointed in between.
I've never given a comment before, and I've never been one to tear down a movie or something. But this just plain sucks, and I'm being polite here. If I had known the movie would have been so bad and I had the choice between paying to go see the movie or throw away the same amount of money. I'd throw my money away. Hell I'd throw double the amount away just to -not- go see that movie.
Honest to god. Keep away, steer clear, do not under any circumstance pay for this, and if someone else pays for you, try to get some sleep.
