My Sister's Keeper (2009)
My opinion on the ending
I've read the book, and I loved the ending to the book. But not only was I not surprised that the film version was different, I'm glad it was.
I doubt the book ending would have worked for the film because it would have been too many twists. There's already been the twist about why Anna is asking not to do it anymore. Another twist would leave people who haven't read the book feeling like just as they thought nothing else surprising could happen their lead had just been yanked. With some films this would have worked, but this just wasn't that kind of film, and would have felt out of place.
Whereas in the book, the film ending would have felt like an anticlimax - it would have just seemed like it had fizzled out, and wouldn't have been a satisfying ending to a book. The reader would be left thinking "Was that it?" I love both endings - in the right context.
