Curse of Aurore (2020)
GLICHES ARE NOT SPOOKY, JUST ANNOYING
Not much happens besides some random apparitions, and right when it starts getting interesting it just ends. But the most frustrating thing are the constant gliches that only happen in movies and are just annoying - specially if they always antecipate an apparition.
Not Alone in Here (2020)
SANDBERG'S BEST SHORT
Amazing pace, tension, acting and even the comic relief is well placed. Definitely Sandberg's most solid and mature short film yet.
Sticks (2018)
Everything works here, except one fatal flaw
Descent acting, good visuals and great atmosphere. There's no story here, but it works well as a proof of concept. Unfortunately, the sound design - especially the music - is completely over the top and irritanting. It pulls you off the story and almost ruins the entire experience.
Singularity (2016)
Pretentious
Just another bland post-apocalyptic story. Nothing new here except for the bad acting and terrible pacing (I challenge you not to fall asleep). It also ends on a very pretentious note as if we were supposed to be amazed or feel anything for these characters that were all poorly constructed.
That been said, as an amateur film (which I hope this is), the cinematography looks ok.
It Followed Me Here (2017)
ZzZzZz...
Just another lazy generic story used as a desperate excuse to fill you with cheap jump scares.
Wicken (2019)
Simple but effective
I loved the visuals, from the cinematography to the impeccable scenario, the simple (but effective) camera movements, and even the "creature" that matches the subtle tone instead of exaggerated visuals. Unfortunately, the acting is below average and the dialogues are just terrible. Thankfully though, the direction knows not to resort to cheap jumps scares or loud noises, which definitely keeps the story on a positive result.
The Quiet (2013)
JUST OK
The most predictible twists and unnecessary jump scares that adds absolutely nothing to the story, just seems like a desperate attempt to look cooler than it is. It also should have been halfway shorter.
Marianne (2019)
GREAT CINEMATOGRAPHY BUT LAZY SILLY CLICHES
I really wanted to like this more, particularly due to the lack of descent horror series we have been facing lately. But it's very disappointing to see such a good cinematography wasted on a lazy story full of random silly rules, cliches and dull jumpscares. There's not one really scary scene and everything is so predictable. At best, it might serve as a generic teen entertainment for those not familiar with the genre.
Don't Stare (2017)
spooky blooper
The only scary thing in the whole movie is the cameraman's reflection in the window.
Active Shooter (2017)
It is what it is
Predictable and poorly acted, but still effective for social awareness.
Kassandra (2013)
Great homage to Polanski's "Repulsion"
One of the best short films I've seen. Beautifully shot and with great acting, it is a true art house horror that reminds both classics (such as "Repulsion") and modern horror gems ("Girl Walks Home Alone at Night" / "The Eyes of My Mother").
