The Illusionist (2006)
My reviews are usually critical of movies, but this review really has nothing bad to say. I hate spoilers, so for those of you out there I just would like to say that you can read this without ruining your next trip to the movies. The Illusionist has a hard start, sort-of slow, but gains momentum with a big event. Even though it is big, it still keeps you bored. But this movie is nothing but entertainment, for the ending is the gold Oscars are made of. I have seen this movie once, and didn't really pay so much attention to all the details, but when the last 2 minutes come on you wish you did. So my advise to you is that although it has a slow start and maybe a little boring middle, it really has a huge "illusion" that you really don't want to miss. The Illusionist is more of an illusion than a movie, and more a work of art and masterpiece than anything else.
Funny, daring and unafraid
When you have a comedian who isn't afraid to insult, or say anything to anyone and mangle her entire life to show you how a "D-list" celebrity lives, the ups, (like being a huge success, the downs,(like being the only normal person in a pathetic dog show), and the questionable (like receiving a box of $500 roses from a famous actress, you really don't know what will come next. Kathy is someone you can call a comic genius, even her stand shows on Bravo are genius. Life on the D-List really showcases her real life, in such a humorous way, her parents, wine and everything in between. Watching it is so entertaining because it also has suspenseful situations, which you see her handle things with such an essence, in which I'm sure everybody would want to do. Bottom line, Kathy Griffin is a must watch. She is a funny daring and unafraid comic, who will say anything that she believes no matter how bad. I wish I could invite her to my in-laws so she could tell them off, the way I always wanted to. Thank you Kathy for finally making a comedy that is sincere and honest.
Project Runway (2004)
The Entertaining Hox
At the start, I really could care less about fashion design, and really have no interest in it what so ever. But after flipping through the channels and landing on Bravo, I figured, I'd give it a try. Well to me it was very entertaining. I really would rather watch sports or other "manly" things, but this caught my attention and interest. To my surprise, in the ending credits, they have a disclaimer that says something like the scores, producers and Bravo make the decision. And in a report that I read, it translated that disclaimer saying something along the lines of that the show throws off the least entertaining people on the show, not necessarily the worst designer. So could you really consider this reality TV? As much as this is entertaining, it is also a hoax, or a lie, a sham. I do believe that it is an entertaining hoax, so if the best designer is kicked off, you know he was a boring stiff, when the worst designer might stay because he causes tension and entertains you. So I will continue to watch it, but without so much intrigue, because now I know that the worst dress can stay, and the best can go, just to keep it going.
My Name Is Earl (2005)
It seems like people are attracted to shows that showcase pathetic lives that have no purpose what-so-ever. To me i give my sincerity to NBC for their dire efforts to make new changes in television, making laugh track free shows. They seem to always find big success, like The Office. When I first started to watch it seemed to me that it could have potential to be a smash hit. But after a couple of episodes, I really felt like going to church and donating every penny in my entire bank to pathetic people showcased in these lowlife, poor, disgraceful areas. And the end where they show Earl and the brother in bed together, it just seems to me that this show is trying to show the bad side of life, like street beggars or people who struggle to pay the rent and have no sense of what the real world of normal people in society are like. I just seem to always be disgusted when I watch the filth the people in this show live in. It's like Venice Beach in California, beautiful but so many hobos. Believe me I'm no rich guy, middle class, and not a clean freak either, a bit sloppy, but it just seems to me that the show just can't seem to get off of all the gruesome, schmuck people out there who have one leg. I just wish that they would show a little more class, not all filth and poorness and trailers and just below average life, it just seems to depress me. To me this show is nothing more than a showcase of what not to do in life, what not to be. It also shows me that education is the most important thing you can have because apparently these two don't have an ounce of smarts. This is a schmuck-u-mentary.
