Pumpkinhead (1988)
Very good, a classic
The title sounds ludicrous, but then after the first 20 Minutes of watching you know your in for a treat. Lance Henriksen plays the father of a boy accidentally killed by travelling teens and seeks revenge for the unnecessary death of his young son. He visits an old woman who lives deep in the forest, who has the power to conjure up a demon known as Pumpkinhead to inflict revenge on those wronged. Special effects are incredible considering when this film was made and the creature itself is very frightening (considering that computer generated effects were still some way off. Another strong performance by the underrated Mr Henriksen who's performance as the grief stricken father is convincing.
Well worth seeing.
Prayer of the Rollerboys (1990)
A say no to drugs flick!!
Prayer of the Rollerboys is set in the future, when most of the population are now hooked on "Mist"
Enter Griffin (Corey Haim) who has a crappy job in the local pizza joint, but a good set of morals. Story mainly revolves around Griffins initiation into the Rollerboys, helped along by an old school friend (Christopher Collet) who happens to be the guy in charge of the drug pushing brigade on Rollerblades.
The film has temptation (in the form of material goods and money) and a strong will (Griffin) to save his younger brother from a life of greed and drug pushing/taking and ousting out the guys responsible (Rollerblade boys)
Corey Haim gives a good performance and there is plenty going on to keep viewers occupied. Some stylish opening sequences and core "say no to drugs" message make the film a worthwhile watch (especially for teen target audience)
Dream Machine (1991)
Entertaining for low budget flick
Just to start, previous people who write critical reviews should at least have the decency of getting the character names correct (Its Barry, not Bernie)
I have only ever liked Corey Haim in films such as A Time to Live, Lucas and Silver Bullet, however this film is simply made to be entertaining and to appeal to a target audience of teenage girls!! I have watched this film and the most entertaining character was Lance (the embezzler) his frantic attempts to recover the car and the body in the trunk really are very entertaining. So even if your not a fan of Corey Haim, watch it just for the character Lance!!
