It's a Bikini World (1967)
Cheesy 60s Fun
I caught this movie on cable one day and actually really enjoyed it. I even looked for the movie to buy but I'm assuming it's not out on DVD.
Mike is your stereotypical male chauvinist. He has to be the best at everything and when a girl comes along and challenges him at different events, he feels he must beat her. He also ends up falling for her and pretends to have a dweeby twin brother named Herbert. The girl falls for Herbert and Mike has to figure out how to tell her who he actually is.
There is also a cameo by The Animals and a groovy skateboard race scene.
13 Going on 30 (2004)
Predictable & Unoriginal
This movie is horrible. Everything in it has been done before. There is nothing original. I cannot stand when writers don't come up with their own plots.
A girl makes a wish on her 13th birthday and wakes up as an adult. Hmm, sounds a lot like a movie in the 80s called Big. What is even more annoying is Jennifer Garner's acting. She doesn't act like she is 13 she just acts like she is stupid.
From then on, you can guess the whole plot. She gets a good job and it just so happens that a friend she had at 13 works with her. Wow, how awesome! But, no....her friend is bad and turns on her, trying to get her job. But, of course, she wins in the end when she comes up with a "great" idea.
There's also a dancing scene in the movie that I've seen a thousand times before.
I hate this movie.
La marche de l'empereur (2005)
Stunning
This is an incredibly beautiful movie. It brought tears to my eyes numerous times. The love the male and female penguins show toward each other is stunning. What they go through to protect their baby is heartwarming and, at times, very sad.
I highly recommend this movie, especially to animal lovers. Not only do you learn a lot about the way penguins live, you feel a connection with them. You can understand their determination and passion. It's amazing that these creatures live and reproduce in temperatures as low as negative 80 degrees.
Also, I cannot stress enough how cute the penguin babies are.
The American Astronaut (2001)
Instant Cult Classic
The American Astronaut is like a 60s sci-fi on acid. It's warped and doesn't make much sense. It doesn't have a strong plot and definitely isn't for everyone. But, I did find myself laughing at certain points and I enjoyed it.
There is a scene where the main character is on the toilet in the bathroom and two guys follow him in there. You're certain they're about to beat him up....until they plug in their record player and start singing to him. It's like West Side Story in another dimension. The Ceres jumping (their version of moon walking) in sync with the music makes for another great scene. This movie was born a cult classic.
