Black Gold (2018)
Excellent historical presentation
Black Gold tells of the discovery of oil in Lambton County in the 1860's. There are historical figures as well as fictional characters representing many groups of people in the film, bringing to life the story of the early oil boom in North America.
This is a great representation of the lifestyle of the settlers in the area; the successes, failures and hardships of the time as well as the various emotions and behaviours demonstrated by each of the characters. It highlights an important time in the history of Canada through the eyes of those that were there.
Black Donnellys (2017)
Worthwhile movie!
The film was a huge project to undertake. The story is well worth telling, to keep an interesting and important event in Canada's history alive. It was well done, even with the timing constraints. It is, however, a story that could easily be expanded to provide a much deeper character study of the members of the Donnelly family and of other residents in the Lucan area. The only suggestion is to decrease the volume of the background music in order to hear the dialogue taking place, as it was at times, difficult to hear. Loved it!
