Dear Evan Hansen (2021)
Please know what you're reviewing.
I've seen the stage performance and really liked the screen adaptation of this dramatic, non-comedy, musical that stars Ben Platt as the title character who by the way, also played the same character in the original Broadway performance. This might be the reason that he was cast despite being of actual high school age unlike every movie/tv show ever made that has "teenagers" as characters (extreme sarcasm). Also, I'm not sure why someone would think that a movie about a kid with debilitating anxiety who is trying to make the parents of a drug abusing child who they just lost to suicide believe that their child was not a piece of crap and that he had good qualities would be a comedy. I guess some people just write reviews of movies without actually know what they are reviewing.
The songs are great. The performances are great. But please don't watch this if you believe that anxiety and suicide should be comedic.
Legend Has It (2009)
Legend has it the film editor had no idea as to what they were doing.
Whoever cut together this movie needs to find a different line of work. I'm sure they did the best that they could, but the cuts in this movie literally gave me a headache. There were 5 cuts to an 8 second shot of a girl getting of her car, and 4 cuts showing her pull into the parking spot. So in a 10 second shot, there were 9 cuts. This is only one in many many many examples you will find in this movie. If you choose to see it for yourself, get your headache meds of choice ready before you watch it. Or better yet, just stay away all together.
Dead Residence (2019)
Are you kidding me?!?!?
I am only 32 minutes into this and there are so many things wrong with this movie. I'm not even talking about the plot, the acting, etc. I'm referring to the actual purchase and renovating of this house.
First, when you're looking at a house to purchase or anything else for that matter and you find something wrong like horribly stained carpet or moldy walls, you don't get all excited and talk about how that will be no problem to fix. You gotta play hardball. The realtor saying that there are already a lot of offers is just BS.
Next, when the agent says that $50,000 is the lowest the owner would take, but he would suggest going a little higher like $55,000 or $60,000, you don't jump in at $60,000. In fact you don't even need to start at $50,000. If the owner has any sense, they wouldn't have asked for the least that they would take. They would have asked for more that way they could negotiate down and still get what they feel is acceptable.
Lastly, these people are painting directly over the old dirt, moldy walls without cleaning or even priming them. I know that they didn't clean them first not just because they look disgusting, but the girl talks about how she just painted over a hair. Since they plan on flipping this house, hopefully, they'll find a couple of idiots that are as naïve about purchasing a home as they are to sell it to.
I am aware that this is a work of fiction, but come on! The thing that sets great found footage films apart from the complete wastes of time is the attention to detail. This one wants to do the scary and totally gloss over what would actually make it feel real (or at least more real).
Oh yeah, so far, the script and the acting are pretty bad too.
Bluff City Law (2019)
Foghorn Leghorn
If you're the only person in the cast using a ridiculously horrible Southern accent, then maybe you should just stop using it.
The Levenger Tapes (2013)
Not too bad...
Not too bad I guess. For some reason, I really like found footage movies, but I do have one question. Why are the detectives watching "tapes" when the footage was all shot on digital hard drive cameras? Did someone take the time to transfer all of it to VHS?
