Kevin Can F**k Himself (2021–2022)

Premise is weak

I enjoyed 'Schitts Creek'; I wanted to like this show but I can't. The 'sitcom' aspect quickly becomes tiresome. Kevin et.al. Are boringly, predictively evil; Allison is childish and naive. Each half hour is a repeat of the last, different circumstances, but same message and outcome. The lighting effects are heavy handed, unlike, for example, the use of red in Sixth Sense.

Just because something is stupid and evil because it's *supposed* to be stupid and evil doesn't make it worthwhile to watch. Nothing clever or innovative about this sophomoric tripe.

Disjointed (2017–2018)

Fun show

Don't have a problem with the laugh track, adds to the campiness. Like Cheech and Chong back in the day, nothing good ever seems to happen to the perpetually high. A fun way to unwind. Probably would be even more fun to watch under the influence; blast the drug testing policy of my employer!

Hostages (2013–2014)

A wasted hour

Yet another TV show with a premise that's reasonable for a 2 hour movie but can't possibly work for an entire season.

The dialog is cliché. You know what's going to happen before it happens because you've seen it a thousand times before. If you watch TV to have background noise while performing household chores, doing your taxes, etc., it's perfect, you don't have to think at all.

Sadly, after "United States of Tara" and this... thing..., I'm removing Toni Collette from my list actors who's presence makes something watchable. I really wonder why they gave this show the green light, it has nothing going for it.

The Newsroom (2012–2014)

Unbelievably Bad

I really expected better. They took West Wing, moved it to a newsroom, made it preachier, made the characters one dimensional, and dumbed down the issues.

The show is hamstrung by using news that was current at the time of the writing but is now sadly outdated (e.g the Gulf Oil Spill and bashing Sarah Palin).

Clearly it is just a vehicle for the creators to express their idealist, simplistic, anti-corporate viewpoints on U.S. politics. OK, I get that corporations are greedy, self-serving organizations, but they don't get that the government is flawed as well.

In a show that is supposed to be about a press that is fair, balanced, provides facts and lets the viewer make up their own mind, all issues are examined from a purely left wing viewpoint. Which I wouldn't mind if it was done intelligently. A high school student knows more about the issues they purportedly report.

Shows like this provide even more evidence that the U.S. is no longer the best country in the world.
