Anderusen dôwa ningyo-hime (1975)
One of the best! (Right next to Disney)
When Hans Chirstian Andersen wrote the "Little Mermaid" he felt proud of himself he connected his life into the Little Mermaid's life ever since the emotional story has been release there had a series of countless version of the tale.
One of those was a feature animated movie directly from Japan from Toei, ANDASEN DOWA NINGYO-HIME (The Mermaid princess-or-Little Mermaid) tells you the story of a young mermaid princess who soon to fall deeply in love with a human prince in order to be with the prince she must make a horrible deal with the sea witch to become a human girl in order to do that she must give up her voice and her family as well. If the prince doesn't fall in love with her on his wedding day she will die and turn into foam. Once she got up to land she stays with the prince thinking he will be with her forever but soon to find out there are plans for him to marry another princess which he feels is the girl who saved his life. The next morning will bring the mermaid's death she did had a chance to live but it will lead up to kill the prince but the power of love is too strong she knows once she turns into foam she'll be happy as long as the prince is happy.
The Little Mermaid give a strong impact when The Walt Disney Company release the film in 1989 with a more happy tone to it. There very little versions that stay true to the original tale one of them was a another animated feature in Russia which had a much more darker tone but this one how ever will remain a special place in my heart with the idea of giving up anything you got for love. One of the other strong places that holds in me is the song our mermaid sings when she comes of age it shows of what would had happen if the prince stay with her. One of the best version of the Andersen fairy tale ever presented.
Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983)
A fantasy classic unlike any other
When I mean "a fantasy classic unlike any other" it's different from other fantasy films and AMAZING STORIES. It's based on the cult series THE TWILIGHT ZONE which everyone knows of. This movie is not only famous for it's segments but for it's four great directors that created then and the death of actor Vic Morrow who was in the star of the first segment.
PROLOGUE: This prologue was done by John Landis where a driver and his buddy are playing road game which leads them into a topic on the TWILIGHT ZONE and to a big surprise.
SEGMENT ONE: John Landis not only direct this but written this segment just for the movie. Where a bigot is showing off his hate towards those with a different race than him who is going to take a trip to played the victim of those he show his hate to. This segment is not really one of my favorites but in a way it was entertaining.
SEGMENT TWO: The guy directed E.T yeah him, remakes the classic episode "Kick the Can" where a group of seniors from an old folks home are being visit by "hope" letting them re-live their childhood youth again all in tin can. This is the only heartwarming segment in the movie it touch out very nicely it had so much heart into it there was nothing bitter in it.
SEGMENT THREE: Joe Dante make sure that happy world from the second segment will end in his remake of "It's a good life" where a school teacher takes a young boy home right after hitting him, he takes her to his home which is in the middle of nowhere, he lets her meet his family which she found them kinda creepy like their house. She soon to find out that this boy can control things with his mind by using his love for cartoons and that his family are all people he trapped and she soon going to be part of it, but in the end she tells him he cannot use his power too much or else so he stop being mean right after sending his family away and killing one of them for standing up to him. It was just weird.
SEGMENT FOUR: Geogre Miller did an amazing job at remaking "Nightmare at 30,000 feet" where a flight attended is so scare of riding on a airplane durnning a storm that he keeps on seeing a creature on the wing of the airplane and everyone is thinking that he is going crazy about the whole thing and he is acting crazy. It ends with him trying to stop the monster and then find himself going to the nut house.
Each segment is it's own thing pretty much how the series is. The score for the film is also affected. Worth watching.
A night full of smiley slap sick madness
In a small little nothing town of Wheelsy strange things are happen. Grant finds a comet, he pokes at comet, comet pokes at comet, Grant eats meat, Grant is getting bubbling, Grant rapes Brenda, Brenda gets missing, Brenda is so hungry, Grant attacks wife, Wife and cops search for Grant, Wife and cops founds Brenda, Brenda is big round ball, Brenda gives birth to UFO slugs, and that's the results to SLITHER.
SLITHER is one of those horror movies showing some respect to the classic 80's horror films with a sick turn it's just the same Slug-Zombie movie only grosser and stuff.
Am I happy with the results of the this film in away yes they give us everything what I ask for in this movie adding slapstick comedy of what which a lot of horror movies had in the 80's.
Evil Dead II (1987)
A creative installment of the classic horror series
When the first EVIL DEAD came out in 1982 or whatever 80 something it was gore after gore after gore in such a small budget and it became known as one of the most shocking films. Then when EVIL DEAD 2 came out director Sam Rami give it a new turn on the first one. And also adding a very good blend of slapstick humor into it.
Ash (Our well known hero) is back on the road to the cabin in the woods with his girlfriend Linda (The one with the missing head) this time and all too soon they came upon the book of the dead and release the demons upon the woods and same as the first one Linda gets killed in the same style and new characters and scenes came along, Annie along side with her boyfriend Ed (Soon to be Evil Ed) comes to the cabin to put the missing pages together and the redneck Jake and his girlfriend comes for the ride. The new moments added Ash's hand coming to life running around a dead old women coming out of the basement and a new spin on the attack of the forest (they do much more than raping)and added crazy comical moments into it which works very well.
EVIL DEAD 2 is one of those well creative turns in low budget film-making, sequel to EVIL DEAD and prequel to ARMY OF DARKNESS.
The Little Mermaid (1989)
One of the most all time greatest animated movies in history
In the 1980's The Walt Disney Company wasn't making a good success on the movies when FOX AND THE HOUND came out it wasn't a breakout hit but it was good. And then everything when downhill in 1985 with the release of the BLACK CLAUDRON which was a major flop and it lost everyone's spirit at Disney, until they choose make a long awaited project into a movie based on the tragic fairy tale The Little Mermaid.
This movie tells the story of Ariel a mermaid princess who dreams of becoming human and soon to fallen deeply in love with a human prince so she traded her voice to get legs by a powerful sea witch who wants to rule the ocean and really using her as bait, unlike the ending in the original tale the mermaid gets what she wants and has a happy ending.
This movie had save The Disney Company so much that they now making all time classics such as THE LION KING and ALADDIN and more to name it was a big moment for Disney. And it's now an all time favorite classic.
The Evil Dead (1981)
The horror movie that started it all
The horror movie that begin the series, the video games, and the stage musical, Evil Dead is a well done cult classic made in such a small budget that you could even made yourself.
The story is about Ash and his sister and friends are off to a cabin in the woods looking for fun and sex but soon to find a book holding a demonic force that they unleash, started off with Ash's sister getting attacked and raped by the trees in the forest and soon to have a demon inside of her body and one by one everyone of his friends are being turned into demons now it's up to Ash to stop the evil force that is surrounded the woods.
After the success of Evil Dead it follow by two big budget hit films: Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn, and the Army of Darkness and it made a series of video games and now there's a hit Off-Broadway musical based on the first two movies.
Evil Dead is truly the horror movie of all horror movies.
"All the men in my life are keep getting killed by Candairan Demons"
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
The first and best of the Freddy series
Wes Caven who unleash his first two films THE HILLS HAVE EYES and LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT give us his third film taken a twist on fantasy terror and give us a horror icon.
In the town Springwood Nancy and her friends had been having a hard time sleeping they say that they keep on having nightmares so to keep one of their scared friends some company they stayed with her for the night but as she had a nightmare which first shows Freddy kills her in her dream and to find her dead for real now because of her friend death Nancy is trying hard not to fall asleep that she is now being stalk in her dreams by Freddy it's up to her to stop the nightmares from happening if she doesn't it will never be safe to fall asleep.
This is the big break of the NIGHTMARE series and one of the first films to started Johnny Depp even though the first movie was a small budget to make but it still work.
This is like the only one in the series I could like, the rest of them I can't stop laughing at them.
Ultraviolet was pretty freaking cool man
The movie had some insane outfits that I thought was cool. some of the acting scenes I could live without but anyway it was a really cool movie. The action scenes where crazy, I loved them. Milla also looked fantastic in the film. Some of the reviews I read couldn't of been from this movie, so I'm writing this review to tell you that the movie ain't as bad as you think. I will admit that there were a few scenes that where a little to over acted, but besides that the movie was pretty freaking cool. I would buy this movie when it comes out. I still don't know when the movie is coming out so I hope IMDb gets the release dates soon. All and all I recommend this movie to every one who likes Action packed movies.
Wonderful in every way
I love this show completely I can't say anything bad this concert production I love how they mix in some of the scenes from the show and the cast picks blow me away and I loved how they end this with the all of the around the Valjean's and the overlapping part of "One Day More" (which is one of my favorite songs in the show. I loved the Eponine in the show she was in MISS SAIGON and the Fantine. And how they follow the show still and the score how they played it was amazing in anyway. A really great gala concert ever.
An Amazing concert to such an amazing show.
"ONE MORE DAY ALL ON MY OWN"
Not a remake but an amazing retake on a classic
I really, really can't say anything bad about this retake of the classic children's novel everything about this movie wow me is like in the real world is so normal and in Wonka's factory everything is very colorful and well match to the book and Johnny Depp's role of Willy Wonka was really funny everything about it was funny in a very good way and I loved how the five children were in this movie my favorite kid is Violet and Augustus and the Ommpa Loompa's I'll always think they're cool and the CGI is amazing and I don't even like CGI with the scenes like Violet turning into a big blueberry glued me on the screen and the retake on the songs I like as well my favorite song is Veruca Salt. I like everything about this movie.
One of Tim Burton's greatest work yet!
