A good remake of Asian horror film
This film is like the American version of The Ring. It has atmosphere which a lot of horror/thriller/psychological-horror-thrillers don't have and it is used nicely here. The actors did a great job with there roles, mind you this isn't a Oscar winning film. The sound effects and music add to the bizarre, eerie, and strangeness of the film. This film had a good story about how we(modern America/world)use technology and isolate ourselves and basically self-destroy ourselves for using texts, internet, television etc. And the special effects were good. I've seen so many horror films that this wasn't scary at all for me but it could be different for you and it did build tension especially when there's the "Fake climax" scene which happens right after Mattie gets off the elevator. And Wes Cravens uses Dramatic Irony in the very begging with josh which is an odd and successful effect to put to use in a horror film. The cinematography is good and editing is in top notch firm. Go see this good American remake film. Pulse: You are now infected. There were some frequencies we were never meant to find. 10/10.
Stay Alive (2006)
Stay Alive a refreshing independent horror film!
This film had a lot of scares, but I being a huge horror/thriller fanatic new when most of then were coming and they weren't to scary, but there were some that made me jump, so if you jump easily be prepared for a movie. This movie was obviously but from an R rating to an Pg-13 to make more profit at the box office, and you can tell because if this a decent amount of swearing and blood. So expect this to be on DVD an unrated cut and rated cut. The plot was really interesting of how a video-game kills people in real life and it sorta copied the Asian horror film, which was made into a terrible American remake, "The Ring", so on that note, the director gets my props because he did something new without copying it for another film or genre. The ending was pretty intense and thrilling, there were a lot of jokes, so expect humor and for an independent horror film down by a first time director it's pretty good and you should see it , it won't be bad if you go in with an open mind and listen to what I have told you.
Final Destination 3 (2006)
Getting on the very entertaining ride of Final Destination 3!
This film, I had went into not seeing Final Destination 1 or 2 and this film was amazing, intense, and entertaining. The deaths were realistic except for the workout death (hint: He doesn't dye by the swords). The acting was above average for a high school horror film. The editing was really really good, it was good when needed and then quick when needed. I like how the writers made the photos a foreshadowing of each death that was a very nice English(effect used in books to foreshadow something of importance) feature. The first two/three death scenes were slow so that you(the audience) could see how the death like Rube Goldberg (cartoon artist who drew machinal inventions) were done and then on the later deaths, they were picked up so that you would have to think fats like the characters in the film. The ending, I thought, was well done even though I guess that it was shot many times reportedly because audiences didn't like it. Overall this film is good, exciting, thrilling, intense, amazing and entertaining.
When a Stranger Calls (2006)
Should you be answering this phone call?
I haven't seen the original, so I may not relate the two versions. This version for the most part was good but what really lacked and brought the film down was the writing. Jake Wade Wall must be new at writing horror screenplays because this film barely passes on a simple level. The cinematography was great. The colors of the clothing,make-up, backgrounds was really nicely messed together and this film had a good idea but it meet bad writing. The acting was good it wasn't anything amazing, but it was better than just OK. The ending was suspenseful and there were some effective scare techniques and there was some comedic lines. Overall don't go into this movie thinking that it will be amazing, because then you will come out disappointed, but if you go in expecting a remake, which will receive terrible movie reviews, you might have a good time and enjoy this film. So now it's up to you to decide whether to answer the phone call or not...
Hoodwinked!: A Review
I saw this movie last night, I have to say that it is amazing! The acting was done really well, I believed the actors and they also grabbed my attention and made me believe that these characters were real. The story was original and very well written. The animation was why this movie received some bad reviews:(Ebert and Ropert). But the animation did not bother me at all. It isn't as amazing as Shrek's, but it's still really good. This film has a-lot of adult humor, but no subliminal messages, hidden in the backgrounds(The Little Mermaid, The Lion King etc.). I recommend that you see this film, it will not disappoint you at all!
