Terra Nova (2011)
Worth the time in front of the screen
Well, won't burn this series for free, it doesn't deserve a heavy fire but a light cover fire... It has a number of holes you could push a truck through and the history itself feels so forced to bring up a decent script, but you only need a little bit of faith (if I was a savvy man I'd use the term "deux-ex-machina"). The main character, our cop friend, needs to play theater for a long time before considering being back to TV or cinema... Certainly, our heroic family is made up of artificial characters, may be it's not him but the character! If you can handle fire in the space, hyper speed, event horizon parties, giant mutant animals, walking dead, planting a nuke into a comet, midiclorians, and so on, then you are great candidate for Terra Nova.
Adrenaline Rush: The Science of Risk (2002)
A few people need risk to light up their life, these ones here jump or nearly fly
Just arrived from OMNIMAX theater, this film viewed with this IMAX format is just electrifying as the adrenaline rushes its characters are looking for, this document covers some parachute and B.A.S.E. jumping activities done by those who make risk a way of life, as others need safety and wellness, these ones look for potentially mortal experiences, and to say the truth they all looked like being very happy... Not my way, period, but still they made it look funny. Pro air cameramen do great work for the movie, and they make a real try on some Leonardo Davinci's previous designs. Nice time for dinning-room sofa sportsmen looking for some stress, watch this movie in LARGE format if possible!
Battlestar Galactica (2003)
As a difference with Dune, this BSG-remake is superior to the original, a must see
Apollo, Starbuck, Commander Adama, the Cylons themselves... Vipers, Cylon Raiders, Carriers, all the stuff... And of course present day tech behind the scene, together with great acting (for average viewer's taste), magnificent direction and a touch of drama to make this space-opera a rare piece of shiny exotic metal on my shelfs. Things are as usual in Ci-Fi, but if you keep the heart you can make "Deus Ex Machina" obvious enough to feel transported to the runaway Fleet, on the way to wherever they call it Home (not to point hints to build a spoiler), Edward J. Olmos reminds me of the wise-old-man he performed back to "Miami Vice", father, savior, spotlight of the forty seven something thousand souls looking for peace and rest. Starbuck is a main axis of this remake, as a symbol of the winds of change that make this series special, you must see the original to appreciate the improvements... To say something in raw, I feel it like comparing A-Team with Platoon, its a good work like bringing "Lord of the Rings" to the screen and it is the kind of effort I would ask for a remake of the remake of Dune... Series from the 80's look now to me as innocent, even childish, tales for adults. Is it deeper? Is it this fast changing times that makes things mature and gain in drama and circumstances? Anyway, BSG2003 is a product of the times, well brought to screen, plausible and likely a real story of mankind, suffering and hope with this bittersweet sense of carry on with Life. Politics, warriors, lots of religion and Gods talking, the characters are built on solid profiles, with an evolution clearly seen as chapters go by. It is not perfect as nothing can really be, but for a Ci-Fi fan with "the flame still alight" it is advisable to take some time to calmly watch this story, consider eating one cookie a day at the most, this will make your delight and one day you'll be sad because there are no more chapters. Enjoy ;-) KLFTA
