Noises Off... (1992)
The sardines, where are those sardines!?
When I saw this movie the first time some years ago on German TV, I only watched because of its cast. Mostly because of Michael Caine and Carol Burnett. The movie itself is a fantastic comedy with a bunch of good natured actors.Next to the first two especially the late Christopher Reeve whose nose always starts bleeding at the sign of "violence"(a very funny fact if you imagine that he became famous playing Superman), and John Ritter who, sadly, has also left this world. The rest of the cast is also great. Simply hilarious. For about three years now I meet with two good friends at my place once a month and we have a movie night. Some time ago I chose Noises Off as one of the films of the evening, because they hadn't seen it before. I don't remember hearing them laugh more louder any time before. When the "cactus scene" came we had to stop the film to calm down again. If you want to see Reeve and Ritter in their most funniest roles, or "Desperat Houswife" Nicoleete Sheridan in her younger years, then this is the right movie.Oh and never has a plate of sardines been more funnier.
Das Gasthaus an der Themse (1962)
Scotland Yars Insp. Wade hunts "The Shark" a scuba-diving dressed killer who terrorises London.
This was the most successful film of the legendary Edgar Wallace series in Germany which ran from 1959 to 1972."Gasthaus" has an creepy and mysterious atmosphere, filmed in Hamburg along the river Alster, and not on Location in London. Along with a very good story and some nice plot twists, it is a movie i will always like to watch. It has also one of the best casts in the Wallace history. Along with regulars Joachim Fuchsberger,Eddi Aren't Siegfried Schürenberg and the always great Klaus Kinski German movie greats like Elisabeth Flickenschildt,Heinz Engelmann,Brigitte Grothum and Richard Münch ad to the fun.Since the movies are regularly rerun on German TV and the entire series has recently appeared on DVD, be sure to watch this one. Of course to watch the others isn't a bad idea either.
