A Man Apart (2003)
a film apart
Saw A Man Apart yesterday. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed. Like director didn't knew what kind of film he really wanted to make, so he mixed something up. The film hadn't quite own identity. It was somewhere between serious drama, telling about terrible loss and tough revenge action. These two sides wasn't mixed very good. Action was bit try but the story had potential to grow something serious. It wasn't definitely the best work of F. Gary Gray. Based on he's previous works( The Negotiator, Friday and Italian Job also), I just know he is able do things better than this. Though Vin Diesel's performance was one of his bests. He did actually really good job (not perfect but good) building up a Sean Vetter's character. Film itself was messy and there was some holes but it,s worth to watch specially to Vin Diesel's fans because he made strong performance, that i was impressed.
Two men wake up in the old revolting bathroom and find themselves chained to a pipes and dead body of unknown man lying between them. One man had to kill other man to save himself and his family. The question is: Can you do anything just to stay a live?
Very intense and thrilling movie by James Wan and Leigh Whannel. Good story with lot of unexpected turns. And the bathroom were it took place, was quite revolting. The rusty pipes and dirty walls and floor. Danny Glower was great as detective Tapp and the other performances were acceptable also. Maybe Leigh Whannes isn't quite good actor. He should concentrate more on writing than acting.
Saw is great film for thriller lovers. You can get more than you expect. Defeniteli the must see film.
The Island (2005)
I truly liked it. It's great!
The Island is definitely Michael Bay's one of his best movies. Great and quite believable story with loads of action scenes and adding good actors, that's what makes this movie so good. Michael Bay just knows how to make a good action/Sci-Fi movie.
I can't imagine anybody else than Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson in roles of Lincoln and Jordan. They are just perfect. Although Steve Buscemi had been in better plays than role of McCord (Why Buscemi's characters always had to die at the end of the films?).
The Island is easy to watch but it put you think about future and human cloning. Everybody who likes action and fiction should see this film.
10 points to Hire-series
I like the whole Hire series short movies, but The Star is definitely one of the bests of Hire-series. Lot of funny moments, good soundtrack and Guy Ritchie's style makes this short action-speeding film so enjoyable.
Cliwe Owen is playing driver(like in every other Hire movies) who has to take the arrogant star(played by Madonna) to the destination point and lose the followers. And all this speeding through the city ends with very funny gag-line.
I give 10 points to The Star like the whole Hire series.
It has style
I enjoyed everything in this film. Mel Gibson's act, story, soundtrack. Almoust everything was terrific. I just love fast-paced crime movies and in this movie has the whole package, that makes it so enjoyable.
The story is about man called Porter, who is being cheated by his comrade Val Resnick. After recovering the bullet wounds, hi's starting bloody war with Firm to get his money back. And there's gonna appear two corrupt cops, who are wanting their cut. Including Porter's wife, who died in over doze, greedy taxi dispatcher Stegman and Porter's old lover Rosie, it's very interesting story studded with few good jokes.
And like I said, this movie got style.
The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)
I thought it was more like the Exorcist(1973), but this film was a bit a disappointment to me. There was too much court drama and not enough horror. The Exorcism of Emily Rose is a bit above the average horror-thriller. The quiet courtroom drama was mixed some very scarified demon scenes. Plot was quite good and acting also. Laura Linney was believable as lawyer Erin Bruner. Also I enjoyed Tom Wilkinson as Father Moore.
It is a story about holy father and girl, who died in the process of exorcism. The lawyer is trying to prove, that death of Emily isn't the holy father's fault. If you like The Exorcist, then you probable like this film too.
Lammas all paremas nurgas (1992)
Good family film
"Lammas all paremas nurgas" is quite good for Estonian comedy movie and it's very enjoyable for whole family, Little kids to grandmother. It's the story about two boys who discovers a secret of a painting that everybody thought to be lost. After the secret is coming out, the group of criminals want to steal that painting. Of course the bad guys are total idiots and the boys with help of fisherman Ahven, outsmarts them.
There is some very good jokes in this movie and the actings are pretty good too. Specialli Dan Põldroos as Filip and Tõnu Kark as Ahven. And I recommend that movie if you like the whole family adventures.
The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005)
Best comedy movie in 2005
And I think that I'm not the only one who thinks that, because it is. I went in the cinema with my friend and we both laughed ourselves batty. I have never saw that the whole people in cinema hall laughing like this.
Steve Carell played Andy Stitzer very credible like he really knows this kind of problems himself and that was very enjoyable. The man was 40 years old and he had been never sexed with a woman before. So his friends trying to help him with giving him advices and bring him together with girls, but Andy still isn't very good with ladies and everything is going wrong. Until he mets Trish, a woman who works in shop the other side of the street. They fall in love and start to dating. And there's gonna be some several embarrassing moments.
There was a lot of black and sexist humor, that I truly loved. True comedy fan: you are missed lot, if you have not seen this movie jet.
Typical Arnie humor.
I really like Schwarzenegger's jokes. He always says something funny after he just had killed someone(Let of some steam, Bennet. Don't disturb my friend, he's dead tired.) . And at the time there is no emotions in his face. I truly enjoy this. And there is lot of black humor in Commando and that's why I like this movie. Commando is definitely one of the Arnie's best movies. Full of explosions, gunplays and rumble it's typical 80s Schwarznegger's action film. Story is eclipsed by the action but it still quite good(not brilliant or the best, it's just good) for action film. Retired special agent Matrix's daughter is kidnapped and he'll do anything to get her back. So he start his war and kill hundreds of bad soldiers. If you like bloodstained action and black humor I recommend this senseless 'never stop moving' film.
Arlington Road (1999)
Who your neighbors really are?
Arlington Road is a very good dramatic thriller. I very enjoyed this very tensive psychological games between the neighbors. Tim Robbins was very good in Oliver Lang role because Robbins with his sincere face isn't typical bad-man. Jeff Bridges plays Michael Faraday, the teacher, who discovers that his new neighbors has some secrets. Oliver Lang and his wife is part of the terror organization. But nobody doesn't believe paranoid acting Faraday. The ending of the movie leave some loose ends and you can stay thinking of it very long time - was the terror act for good or for bad. Just when everything is straight, then goes boom. I truly liked this end what plows everything disorder. I give nine points to Arlington Road. Definitely I want to see this film again.
