Marie Antoinette (2006)
Not as good as Lost In Translation, but still great...
This movie tells the story of Marie Antoinette, who became queen of France at age 19. But wait, this isn't an historical movie, it's a movie about the personal side of Marie Antoinette, and Sofia Coppola succeeds doing that (and Kirsten Dunst is just great playing Marie!). Marie is just a girl that wants to have fun, she doesn't fit in. She spends her time eating candy and playing games to fill her empty and pointless life at Versailles. That's the beauty of this movie, if you don't understand it, you completely missed the point, try to watch it again. Don't pay attention to the critics, they say this movie isn't serious... I think they don't get what Sofia Coppola wanted to show us. OK, why I gave it an eight, not a ten? For two reasons: I thought the film was a bit long, and the lack of good dialog annoyed me. I don't mean the dialogs are bad, but they're not as good as the dialogs in Lost In Translation and The virgin suicides. But that's my opinion... just watch the movie and let's wait for Sofia's next project!
It's hard to find a good horror movie nowadays. Most of them don't really scary you, they just make you jump off your seats because of the sound. Besides, a movie about a ghost of a girl that haunts people who did something bad to her, is not that original, is it? Movies like The Ring, Dark Water, The Eye, The Grudge (all Asiatic movies with American remakes) have almost the same plot. And Shutter is not different.
This movie tells the story of a young Thai couple who kill a girl. After that, the ghost of the girl starts haunting them by appearing in photos (they're photographers). The point is, the movie is great because the main couple aren't dumb as the other main characters in every other horror movie. No, they're actually very smart! They're search for intelligent answers. Yes, this movie has scary parts and funny parts as every other, yes they make you scream only by raising the sound at the exact moment the ghost shows up. But it's an intelligent movie with a slightly different plot (the reason why the main character has his neck hurt is just great!) Okay, I won't say anything else because I don't want to spoil it.
Just watch it. 8 out of 10.
A simple movie about a blind woman who answers a public phone that insists ringing.
Very good short movie about a blind girl who answers a public phone and dives into a fantasy and erotic history with an unknown man. It's a simple, touching, delicate history. I went to watch "Dark Water" and I got surprised because I was waiting for trailers, but they showed this short movie instead. I just can say that the acting is nice, the editing is also good and the history is simple but different at the same time because it happens with a blind woman. I can't tell anything else about the movie because it's so short I'd end up spoiling it. Just watch it, if you have the opportunity.
Eight out of ten.
