Best harry potter yet...
when watching this i found it to be closest to the book than any other film. there was only 1 or 2 moments where i thought, that didn't happen in the book, where as in the others, i constantly was disappointed by the huge changes made.
the acting was best out of all harry potter films. i think after all these years, Daniel Radcliffe has started improving on his acting.
the chemistry between Ron nd Hermione was as usual, very well done.
i thought the direction was very good too. although my personal favourite film was prisoner of azkabam, because of the great directing and style, this was done well too. build up and action scenes where done exactly how i pictured them in the book.
now the bad side, which is how i feel in all harry potter films, and i feel most people would disagree. the costumes worn by the main characters were poor. this is set in the present, yet harry and Ron walk around wearing the most ridiculous clothing. obviously I'm not expecting Fred perry tops and Adidas joggers, but come on. i saw weird purple vests from Ron, over sized jackets, green waistcoats from harry. not good. as always, they've made harry look too geeky, silly haircut. i know thats how it is in the book, but they could have done it better like in prisoner of azkabam.
special effects were much improved from previous ones, and all acting from Beatrix, voldermort, etc was brilliant.
overall, i thought this was the best adaptation from the book, and was very intense and done very well.
Saw 3D (2010)
Gory! But poor finale to saw!!!
i recently watched saw 1 - 6 and although too gory for me, i found them to be very good.
I'm not into the gory side of saw, but i find the traps, characters and twists to be amazing. i found each saw exiting and i loved all the twists so i was very exited to see the final saw and the final twist. unfortunately i found this saw to be poor and the twist predictable.
this film had a basic trap storyline like all the others, like in 2 its the house, in 3 its the man going through, 4, the cop going through tests, 5 its the group of people fighting for survival to get through the tests and 6 with the man going through to get to his family. this i thought was a bad idea as i thought it would be better to have the whole film about the main characters. i know this was to carry the film along but i felt it took up too much of the film and all it offered was over the top gore.
i don't want to give too much away but knowing Dr Gordon was back i thought it was going to be interesting, but i found his part too predictable to be true, i was still waiting for another twist afterwards only to find the credits.
overall, if you like gore, this is in my opinion the goriest of the bunch, the traps were not all that great compared to all the others and the story was good but not good enough for the end of the saw legacy.
i enjoyed it, but was disappointed so I'm giving this a 5/10.
Paranormal Activity 2 (2010)
not as original as the first, but still enjoyable...
firstly id like to say that i thought paranormal activity was amazing. i thought it was scary and it kept me watching more than Blair witch project did.
upon watching this i was exited because i thought it would be just as good, what with the security cameras watching the house.
i left the cinema enjoying the film, finding it good - and at some parts - scary.
this wasn't as scary as the original, what with the budget being bigger, the small scary things that happen in the 1st isn't as good.
there was several parts where most people in the audience started laughing. at a couple of parts the whole cinema were just laughing. some of the parts which are supposed to be scary was actually funny. I'm sure this wasn't intended but it didn't make the film any worse. i think people in the cinema realised its not going to be as scary as the first but still enjoyed it.
There were parts were everyone jumped and screamed, i think this was an enjoyable cinema experience. hasn't quite got the same feel and originality as the 1st. the demon seems a lot less real in this but it was still a good flick.
overall, if you go in hoping it to be better than the first you will be disappointed. although expect to find a few parts funny and a few parts jumpy and you'll most likely enjoy the film overall.
6 1/2 out of 10
A great thriller, m night shyamalan is back!
im a big shyamalan fan so after the happening and last airbender i was disappointed. i thought he had left his more original and thrilling films but he's back with this one and it delivers.
although not directed by m night shyamalan - which i fell would have made this better - the story is by him and it really is amazing.
you might think its going to be rubbish, set in a lift but it will keep you hanging on to the edge. its not over the top at the end and the twists are perfectly set out.
i hope more films come out like this from m night shyamalan.
The Last Exorcism (2010)
Blair Witch meets District 9...
this is a documentary style film, where a man is out to show exorcism isn't real. as he is doing this documentary things start going a tad strange.
The ending is left a lot like blair witch did. it leaves it open for the audience to decide what happens. it even ends with the camera falling to to the ground as the camera man is killed. in my opinion there's too much going on. in the space of 4 or 5 minutes, the audience is thrown lots of different things and then it ends without any of then being explained. this can be good as you make your own ending.
the acting is pretty good and some parts are scary and jumpy. certain scenes could have been improved and made a lot more scary though.
overall, i think this was enjoyable and it stuck with me and my girlfriend afterwards as we discussed what we just saw and what happened.
this is a film where a lot of people dislike, but if you have an open mind then i would recommend it.
Yes Man (2008)
A nice return of jim carrey.
im a fan of jim carrey so when i saw he was bringing out a new comedy i was extremely exited. although i loved his serious roles - eternal sunshine, number 23 - i think jim carrey should stick to what he knows. and thats making people laugh.
the films storyline is simple and with a perfect cast of bradley cooper and zooey deschenel it makes it all worth while.
jim carrey is not too over the top like in liar liar but is still funny at at some parts can be hilarious.
i think this is a great rom com and is one well worth a watch compared to other rom coms that are coming out these days.
if you love jim carrey, there is no doubt you'll love this, even if your not a fan of his, i feel you will still be pleasantly surprised.
