The marketing for this movie was all WRONG!
Every commercial we saw for this movie led us to believe that it was in FACT a movie about a couple who were REALLY having a life or death struggle with a "colony" of bugs of some kind. It's listed as a horror story, and it IS in a way, but in no way that today's movie industry has taught US to see "horror story". If this movie had been advertised as a psychological drama, full of suspense, we might have enjoyed it more. As it was, while we were blown away by the acting, direction, writing, and everything else, we were disappointed. We were looking for a good, ole' fashioned "bug-eat-man" type of flick. This is DEFINITELY not that type of movie.
The 13th Warrior (1999)
One of the most all-around entertaining movies ever made!
I can't count the number of times my family and I have enjoyed this movie. I only regret that we didn't get to experience it at the theatre. Beautiful, BEAUTIFUL settings and sets, with wonderful work done by the costumers and make-up artists. The production designer, the cinematographers, everybody worked HARD to make this a visually stunning movie, and it shows. What a joy to be able to say that the acting and directing strove to meet the same standards, and succeeded! All of this is topped off with an intriguing and thought provoking story that is scripted to be humorous, informative and very engaging. What a wonderful way to peek in to other cultures and world history. We've used this movie as a jumping-off point for a wide range of discussions and further study. The fact that this is the story of Beowulf adds to the value, as it will entice almost anyone into wanting to pick that worthy tome up again! There are a few bloody battle scenes and one rather nasty scene leading up to the battles, but none of it is gratuitous. I recommend this movie to everyone, especially those families that watch movies together.
The Devil's Rejects (2005)
Great gore and violence set to an EXCELLENT soundtrack
There's not much to add by way of comment that hasn't already been said. This movie has a wonderful talent roster of character actors, with some surprising names. The only glaring omission I've noticed in the previous reviews was the soundtrack. From OLD, classic blues, to some classic funk, to classic rock, the soundtrack ALONE is worth the price of admission, and not to be missed!Musically, Mr. Zombie and company are on top of their game, as usual! I still haven't been able to identify all of the actors I recognize in this movie, actually I'm only stumped on one, but I'll enjoy watching the movie over and over again until I can place him!
