Tough guy transformed into an animal activist
19 June 2005
Warning: Spoilers
This is a documentary about an unlikely animal rights activist.

Eddie Lama is a construction contractor from a tough Brooklyn neighborhood who feared and had very little exposure to animals for most of his tough inner city life.

One day he agrees to take care of a cat for an extended period in order to impress a date.

The relationship that developed between him and the cat inspired Eddie Lama to change his life. Lama starts rescuing abandoned animals, he becomes a vegetarian, and ultimately an animal rights activist.

The great thing about this film is that Eddie Lama doesn't fit the stereotype of an Animal Rights activist. He is a down to Earth tough guy type who would look more at home as an extra in a Rocky sequel then at a vegetarian convention.

Well worth seeing.

"Peaceable Kingdom" is a documentary about why people who are involved in protecting animals work for animal welfare.

The film has interviews many of the major players in the animal protection movement and it also interviews many ordinary people.

This film has no gore, no philosophy, and no ranting.

It is a down to Earth film consisting of interviews with down to Earth people describing why they care about animals and why they work to protect them.

The film talks to the audience with respect as equals and fellow human beings.
